  1. Glad that worked out for you!!! =) Rattles can be very, very annoying.
  2. Technical Service Bulletin. There are TSB's for the noise in the moonroof. RX350 and ES350 both have the issue. The front corners of the moonroof assembly sometimes rubs against the vehicles body and causes a noise. To fix it, Lexus has to go in and insulate the area that are rubbing.
  3. I think they would've recalled those steering shafts by now if they were a safety issue. I haven't heard of anyone crashing due to a failed shaft assembly yet. I know that they're common because I've replaced alot of steering shafts in those cars in the past few years. If your Lexus dealership says its such a safety issue, they should replace it for free. It's a Lexus and that's a manufacture's defect. Why make the customer pay when Lexus knows about the issue. I know you're out of warranty, but sometimes if you talk to the service manager, they're sometimes willing to work with you. Sometimes they pay for the labor, and you pay for the part. Or sometimes they pay for the whole thing. Can't hurt to put up a stink about the quality of that part in that Lexus. I'm sure Lexus doesn't want unhappy customers. The TSIB number is ST001-05: Steering Intermediate Shaft Noise. Models: '03 ES 300, '04 - '05 ES 330
  4. It could be the steering shaft assembly. Alot of the ES330's have a steering shaft issue. There was a TSIB issued a while back. It should be replaced for free if your car is still under warranty. The sound can get worse, but won't hurt anything if you don't get it fixed.
  5. Your spare tire is missing the Tire Pressure Sensor. The TPS is part of the tire valve assembly. There's no way to disable the light. I think it's a federal law now that newer cars have to have the TPS system and you can't tamper with them. Is that $240 installed? You have to bring it back to the dealer even if you buy it cheaper from elsewhere. The dealer has the tool to register your missing TPS sensor.
  6. Definitely depends on how your rotors look and the measurements. If you live in a high road salt area, they are more likely to replace them due to corrosion. Your rotors most likely can be machined, but sometimes they can warp after 10,000 miles and you can experience pulsating brakes. The customer returns and then would have to buy rotors and pay for labor. Now you're hit for 2 brake jobs basically. Lexus wants to do it right the first time and have a happy customer.
  7. Toyota and Lexus vehicle tire pressure reset procedures are mostly the same. There is a little Tire Pressure Reset Button near the driver's leg. Nothing in navigation resets tire pressures.
  8. Wow, nice update and detailed pics. That sucks that the sensor is that much. Damn Stealerships. I can get it a little cheaper for you from the dealer if you need it. But from your pics, it looks like you cleaned it up pretty well. The middle one looked the worst. It only takes a little bit of corrosion for it to malfunction. Damn road salt! This problem also occurs in other Lexus models. So if anyone else is having this issue, make sure you do what Len did and check your height level sensor before going to the dealership. You might find that it's just a little bit of corrosion and a very cheap fix. =)
  9. Normal. :) It will run at a higher rpm until the car gets up to normal operating temperature.
  10. Try disconnecting the negative battery cable for 10 minutes. That should reset the motor.
  11. The sensor is fairly easy to remove... I was just reading the link GDixon posted at the top and he's got a pic of what the sensor looks like posted. The sensor itself is connected to the right rear control arm. And I thought there was a slot adjustment on the control arm. So you don't have to mark off any linkage position at all. Just remove and replace. 1. Remove 10mm nut holding the sensor to the control arm. 2. Remove 2 10mm bolts holding the sensor to the frame. 3. Disconnect the plug from the sensor. 4. Replace. I don't have an RX300 at my disposal right now to post pics of where all the stuff is... But you should see everything once you get under the vehicle... I should probably edit my "well-fed" wife post... She may be reading this.. LOL.. You can prob pick up one of those at any local bars in Mass.. No charge.
  12. Wow 3 front brake jobs within 47,000 miles???? Thats alot. There has to be more to the story than that. That must be some hard driving. There is no way pads can wear like that unless its stop and go constantly or an issue with the brake system. OEM is definitely the way to go if you want to do it right the first time and not have issues. I'm not saying that aftermarket equipment is all crap either. You can get away with installing aftermarket and not have any issues at all. But in my experience, they've always had an issue whether its noise or not fitting correctly. Especially the brake pads.
  13. Hey LMA... 5,000 miles over and you complained previously? You should go back to the dealer and complain. Go straight to the service manager. Tell him these Lexus radios aren't supposed to do that. You paid for a Lexus and you want a Lexus radio to function like a Lexus radio and not malfunction regardless of mileage. If the manager doesn't want to work with you, then call Lexus corporate and put up a big stink. I'm sure they don't want unhappy Lexus owners either. If you noticed on the forum, error 4 isn't uncommon in these radios. So it's not cool that there is a mileage warranty on these. I'm sick of the dealership sticking it to the customer.
  14. The light goes on and off because your auto leveling system system may not be getting a good reading from the sensor at times. You're leveling system may work OK if your sensor isn't too corroded inside. If you want to verify that you're sensor is corroded or not. 1. Mark the position of the height sensor linkage before removing it. 2. Remove the height sensor from your vehicle. 3. There are four phillips screws that hold the main cover on the sensor. Remove those screws and lightly pry the cover off. You'll notice that there are three springs inside. If there is any corrosion at all inside, the sensor should be replaced. I haven't come in to any sensors that I could try to clean successfully without issues. Sorry if my directions for removal are vague. I think there might be a write up somewhere on this forum to remove it. :) Good Luck... Oh and let me know if you need a "well-fed" wife to sit on your bumper... I might have one hangin around...
  15. Like GDixon said... More than likely the right rear headlight aim height sensor. Just because you're in the New England, the salt likes to corrode the insides of this sensor and cause it to seize and sometimes break the linkage. Lexus dealerships in Massachusetts replace these sensors all the time. Not uncommon. I hope you're still under warranty because I think the cost of these sensors are around $300+. They're very easy to install if you want to do it yourself.
  16. That oil filter drain plug really doesn't need to be removed. It just gets rid of the over flow so you don't make a mess when you pull the oil filter assembly down. If you don't remove the oil filter drain plug, then you don't need to replace the o-ring that seals it either because you didn't disturb it. Here's a tip to help keep your engine undercover clean if you don't want to remove that oil filter drain plug... 1. Loosen your oil filter assembly until you can loosen it by hand. 2. Slip a thin piece of cardboard (the size of a piece of paper 8.5"x11) up through the engine cover hole and around the back of the filter assembly so it forms kind of like a chute. 3. Loosen the oil filter assembly slowly by hand and let the oil drain down the cardboard chute. 4. Remove the filter cartridge and install new cartridge w/new gasket. 5. Remove the piece of cardboard and reinstall the filter assembly. Hope this helps. :)
  17. I recommend going to a shop that knows how to change tires with the tire pressure sensors in them. The tire pressure sensors are part of the valve stem assembly. Those sensors do not get changed out unless they have an issue with them. The only thing that Lexus recommends to replace is the gasket/seals around the tire pressure sensors everytime you change your tires, due to the fact that they may leak if you dont replace the gasket/seals. The tire pressure sensors are also fragile and may break if the tire isn't dismounted or mounted correctly. Replacing a tire pressure sensor can be costly and they have to be reprogrammed to your vehicle.
  18. Drive your car about 200 miles and your readiness monitors should be all set to pass inspection. You might not even need to do that though. I know in some states, emissions test are exempt for new vehicles. So even if your ECM isn't ready, they might not even check it.
