  1. Thanks for replying. The problem I'm having is removing the wiper with the inserts without having to distort them to the point that the steel takes on a bend. There is no right or wrong direction to remove the rubber because there are hard plastic stops at both ends of the wiper assembly. I have figured out how to remove the wiper assembly from the arm of the wiper, so I can work on it off the car and damaging the glass is not an issue. Anyway, if the metal tines (or other part of the wiper blade) is bent it is a !Removed! to get it right thereafter, and you're better off replacing the entire blade in my opinion. [Then you can practice on the old one for next time!!!]. Something's wrong. You shouldn't have to bend anything to that degree to replace a "replaceable" rubber wiper blade. I used to !Removed! around with rubber inserts. Half the time they didn't fit right and half the time I bought the wrong ones, so now I just don't have the patience, so I just buy the whole arm with the blade on it. Here is sunny AZ, the rubber on the wiper blades only last about one season. The Lexus dealer charged $15 for the rubber alone--I nearly fell over. I don't want to think about what they would charge for the assembly. I have the part number and am going to Toyota from now on. I'm hoping the assembly comes apart--there are two rocker arm pieces (each rocker arm has two hooks that fit into the groove of the rubber) on the assembly and if one of them came off it would be a no-brainer.

  3. I bought new rear rubber for the wiper on my 08 RX350. I know how to lift the arm up and remove the whole rear blade from it, but could only get the old rubber out by grossly bending the rubber and the steel tines on either side of the rubber. Now the steel is slightly deformed and the blade won't wipe completely at the top of the window where the glass has more curvature. Is there some way I should have been able to remove the old rubber without distorting the heck out of the steel tine?
  4. Actually, the 2009 RX350 comes with 4 keys, two masters, a valet and a credit card key. I was sitting in the service area of my local Lexus dealer and heard a customer getting a second key programmed. With the cost of the key and the programming charge, it was well over $300! I nearly fell out of my chair! :o
  5. Just in case you don't read the user manual thoroughly... I just replaced the battery on my 2005 RX330 and found that several things were no longer "set". Memory positions for seat. Control of "other" windows from driver's seat. Sun roof. All are easily reset, but are a surprise if you don't know to do it. UPDATE: Battery recovered, and shop thought it was good. Curiously, the labeled 600 CCA Duralast battery (made by Johnson Controls) was only 500 CCA. Shop thought that rather than being simply weakened, good chance that only 500 CCA from day 1. Said had seen identical thing from Duralast many times in past. Rear hatch wouldn't open by switch, key or manual. I locked/unlocked all doors and hatch back to normal. I'll read OM about resetting sunroof and other windows, but any quick tips? I once had the same problem intermittantlyi with my RX300. It was a mechanical thing; the lock mechanism was jammed. The fix was to put some force on the door inward (or try it in the reverse direction if that doesn't work) while at the same time manually squeezing/pulling on the door switch.
  6. I just bought a set of four tires and had them changed for the first time, and went through this. There are two different things being discussed here. There are (1) the sensors (which include the valve stems; do a Google image search for "tire pressure monitoring system"), which do NOT need to be replaced, and there are (2) the washers around the valve stem, the nut that holds the valve stem to the wheel, and the "innards" of the valve stem itself (not the sensor), which can be replaced at tire change time. Replacing (1) is about $180 per tire. Replacing (2) is about $18 per tire. Go to a tire store that has done this before and know the difference. Thx dypyang. Googling per your advice, and Wiki'ing, it appears there are batteries inside the sensors that will require sensor replacement after 7-10 years. I guess that's the time you replace the stems with standard valve stems.
  7. :) the owners manual says to replace the sensors when you get new tires. I'm all for not paying Lexus to do that and and pay them to reprogram the new sensors if not absolutely necessary. But, how long will the sensors last? Is there a battery in them that will eventually die? And, let's assume I buy my tires at CostCo (and save $100 a tire) and need to replace the sensors--any problem with buying after market sensors? And if I do that, is Lexus the only party that can reprogram them for my car. If so, what would I expect to pay for this service? That's a lot of questions, isn't it :(
