  1. SK, The light appears to go on when traveling down hill and goes off on an up hill. And yes, it does go off at a stand still. My mechanic thinks it needs fluid and I would agree. Thanks for your response.
  2. I have a 99 GS3 - recently, when I started to brake, the brake light comes on and then when I release the brake, the light goes out. The brake fluid is between min and max and I do not notice any braking problems. Any ideas?
  3. I would suggest you examine whether or not you have oil sludge. This model is common to the oil sludge problem that Toyota has admitted. Toyota has extended the warranty time frame and mileage caps so that all the ES, RX, Camry, 4 Runner V6 engines can get their due repair. Good Luck!
  4. I have a '99 GS300 and the GPS signal is always on. I live in a rural California community and I drive daily to the big city of Sacramento. I have never seen the signal out.
  5. I get 23 to 24 mpg driving on country roads, not freeways. My daily driving is in the Sierra Nevada foothills so I can gain or decrease in elevation about 1,500 feet. I get about 19 mpg up hill and 26 downhill.
  6. BA GS400, They completely understand what is going on; it is just that no one wants to pay for it! I have been able to push hard enough and my local Lexus Dealer has diagnosed the problem as: Valve Guides are not seated properly and therefore Lexus will pay for Valve Stem replacement. Oil is blowing by the valve guides and thus, oil consumption and blue smoke. I called my personal car mechanic who told me that this is a fairly common problem with Toyota Camry's and they have seen it with the Lexus GS. Thanks for your reply!
  7. I have a '99 GS300 with 60K miles. I am burning 1 quart of oil for every 1,000 miles driven. Every once in a while, when I start the vehicle, I will get from a small amount to a very large amount of blue smoke from the exhaust. I know this is caused from burning oil but I am being told the oil consumption is within tolerance. Has anyone else experienced the same?
  8. Lexus dealers will charge from $250-$275 for the hard drive and about $60 to $90 for installation. I have a '99 GS 300 with NAV and I would like to upgrade this to the current version. It sounds to me like this is proprietary and you can only upgrade through Lexus. I would like to know if my assumption is incorrect. Thanks, Alan
  9. I have two '99 GS 300 owner's manuals. I would be willing to sell one of them. This is only the owner's manual and does not include the service maintenance manual. I purchased this from a dealer a month ago and then I located the original manual that came with the car. If you are interested, let me know.
  10. Try streetkeys.com. I was able to purchase a new master remote key for my GS300 for $100.00. The cut is about $30.00 as is the programming.
  11. I too have noticed something similar with my 1999 GS300. I can not tell if the transmission is working properly or not. How do you reset the ECU?
