  1. All good suggestions, and I think I'll have the scanner look at it. Thanks all!
  2. OK you guys....got one for you! When I'm on the highway for 10 mins. or so in my '93 ES300, a little light comes on that looks like a genie's lamp. My mechanic thought it was from a defective "oil sending unit" and replaced it. Nope, still comes on. There's plenty of oil on the dipstick and it runs cool all the time. Any ideas what could be causing the light to come on? :cries:
  3. Damn, I just bought those for my car! Found them in the "thrifty nickel" for $20 apiece! Should I sell them in my upcoming garage sell??
  4. Hey, for us tall people, I'm 6'3", how did the driver's seat measure up? My '93 model has never fit me as well as I would have liked. Do you think the overall interior head and leg room has increased?
  5. I've replace the shocks and still hear some scraping when there's anyone in the rear seat or the trunk has somewhat of a load...100 lbs or less. After 150,000 miles, do you all think it's time to replace the springs? If so, what brand should I search for? Any ideas on aftermarket options? Thanks!!! :)
  6. Hey all! Does anyone know of aftermarket availability of new carpet and steering wheel restoration for a 1993 ES300? I've spent millions of dollars..uhhh OK.. hundreds of dollars restoring my '93 Lexus and have just a few items left. These are the most important to me at this time. Anybody have some sources???? Thanks! :D
  7. You can find many here in the Dallas area for around $5000.
  8. Living in Dallas Tx., you almost NEVER have fog. That in mind.....ugly yellow lights on the front of your car, suck! I just want to see if anyone like myself have the same hatred for the ugly lights. And if so, what did they do to spruce up the nose.
  9. I did just that this morning. Went to Toyota and bought their coolant. Figured I take most of you all's advice. Thanks!
  10. I think the ugliest and most useless item on my '93 ES300 are those yellow fog lights! Does anyone know if there are any aftermarket clear lenses available or aftermarket driving lights that fit in the same space? I've looked online through many sites to find the same size, good quality lights, but haven't found any.. :cries: Or, has anyone modified the area for later model lights and had success?
  11. Great timing! I have to buy coolant for my '93 ES300 Saturday. Changed out engine with a imported japanese used engine and am doing the final install. Now after reading all these comments....I have no idea what coolant to buy!!! I need to buy a ford or something, drive the out of it and make no decisions about anything! :chairshot:
  12. "es300man, you went and did it....... you opened pandora's box again. Here we go with the Less Filling/Tastes Great arguement." LOL!!! Yeah, I guess I did. I learned the hard way though, that the old engines don't like the new introduction of Synthetic Oil. Started leaking from all orafices!! That is why I just spent $265 for all new seals and o-rings for the newer engine. Thought I would start out knowing all that stuff had been replaced. I plan to use synthetic in this engine....yes, I said synthetic. :D I should have it out of the shop by the end of the week..I hope. I'll tell you what though, this is the last car I try to "fix up"! "New" Rules!!!!!!! :chairshot:
  13. You all have given me some great info regarding my engine transfer. My new question is...what do you think about using Mobil 1 synthetic with this engine at the beginning? I don't know what the Jap's used since this engine was new, and I plan to replace all the seals before it's installed. Should I use synthetic or regular oil?
  14. LOL!! I was waiting for someone to answer this post! Wow! :whistles:
  15. Thanks for all the advice. I'll let you know how it turns out.
  16. Jpi, no ones done the actual engine exchange yet. I've been told I need to buy all the seals associated with the install and looking to order those now. Any ideas on what to look for as problems go? Thanks!! :chairshot:I'll give you a call on monday...thanks!
  17. Here's an update and need some opinions....I have decided to replace the bad engine with one of those that come from Japan with 30K to 40K miles on them. I have the engine being delivered Friday. Has anyone here done this before, and if so, what issues did you run in to? My mechanic is going to do the labor, but I don't think he's put in one of these "imported engines" before. Any advice will be appreciated! :cries: Glen
  18. "This won't help you much now, but you've just reinforced my choice to use the AAA Plus service for an extra few bucks a year. Pays for 100 miles of towing, with any excess at $2/mile. That would have put you back only $160 instead of $360" Your so right. I joined AAA on the side of the road so they would come pick me up. I didn't have the option at that time to get the other deal. I saved about $75.00 joining then but paid that with the fee to join. You have to be a member for a few months before you get the discount you mentioned. Oh well, hopefully I won't have to use it any time soon. :D Also, everyone who replied to this with advice....thank you! My mechanic, who's actually on my payroll, will look at it Friday to give me the bad news. Oh well, since I own the garage, I can get the parts at wholesale cost.
  19. Driving from Houston to Dallas on Wednesday and got stranded about 20 miles N of Huntsville TX. In an area where cell phone reception was moderate at best, I was on the side of the highway wondering what I did to deserve this. My completely rebuilt and/or restored "93 ES300 told me "you missed a spot", and let me down. Driving along at about 75 MPH and listening to a CD that puts a person in the "zone", the car started to loose power and all of a sudden...white smoke from under the hood, behind the car, and from the dashboard! Pulled over in the middle of BFE with smoke bellowing from all orafices. Finally got my cell phone to get a signal and called AAA. An hour later, a 2 ton wrecker shows up and saves the day. Had him take me and my wounded car all the way to Dallas (180 miles) since no one within 40 miles of our breakdown had any knowledge of Lexus or Toyota engines. $400 later, I have a Lexus that doesn't run. Does this sound like a "head gasket" to anyone? (white smoke) If so, has anyone experienced this nightmare and what was the cost to fix? Thanks!
  20. jbrubaker, I thought your question was a good one! I am looking for supports also. Some people don't appreciate questions that don't apply to them personally. Thanks for asking for the rest of us. '93 ES300 ;)
  21. I wondered about the Toyota dealer...you just got a additional copy, not a "master" key? Your year model is different, huh?
  22. Does anybody know where to get a Master key for a 1993 ES300? The dealer wants $250 for the key and programming. OUCH!! :(
  23. Did anyone have any luck finding a replacement clear lense for these??
  24. Had my transmission oil and filter changed last week and recently took it on the highway. I noticed that I was pumping out about 3000 rpms at 70 mph. I don't recall the engine reving that high at that speed before. Anybody know why new fluid would keep the OD from working properly?
