  1. You can always try a junkyard, although Lexus cars are hard to find in them. In all honesty though, $500 isn't outrageous, thats for the part, the installation, and the painting I assume?
  2. Unfortunately the technology isnt compatible.
  3. The ES looks great in white. I would have gotten white, except I'm not a fan of the tan interior and my last car was white. I wanted something darker this time. As for the caution screen, unfortunately there is no way to get rid of this. People have tried everything, rewiring the nav system, reburning the DVD disc to try and remove it, and nothing will work. Its put there to remove Lexus from liability, all GPS systems have a similar screen. Gotta live with it. You get used to it ;) Did they take the CD changer out for you? You're gonna love it. Mine is leased, but I'm thinking about buying it now because I want to hang onto it. The beauty of these cars really is the longevity. The interiors mold and get more comfortable with age like a pair of expensive shoes.
  4. Your car is the base suspension. The air suspension is the car with the switch. This is a good thing though because the air struts are prone to failure, and they are thousands of dollars to repair. Have you had the wheels balanced and what kind of tires are you running and at what PSI? The LS is extremely bitchy about the wheels, they have to be PERFECTLY balanced and the tires have to be high quality and aired just right otherwise you get vibrations.
  5. I've never actually done it myself, but from what I've been told its easy to spot the buildup.
  6. The PS pumps are a trouble spot for the older LS's
  7. Look up where it says "My Controls" on the top right hand side of the screen, it should say "1 new message" next to that. Click that link.
  8. Did you get my PM?
  9. It can happen, moreso if you get tints that have a metallic coating. The sensor is in the rear window, most tint places know enough to just notch the tinting around the antenna, removing the problem.
  10. Unfortunately it isnt possible. The airbag module on your LS wont fit, and the newer airbag modules are second generation which isnt compatible with your system. Try these guys www.americanstitches.com they do a FANTASTIC job and it wont cost any more than buying a second hand 98+ steering wheel and airbag.
  11. This is usually caused by buildup in the runners inside the steering column. Its fairly easy to remove the cover around the column behind the steering wheel and take a look. Lexus sells grease just for these runners.
  12. Try ebay, they're all over the place.
  13. The LS400 is a fantastic car you will LOVE it. My father has a 98 (same as 99 or 00) and its what originally drew me to Lexus. I had a very hard time deciding between the LS400 99 or 00 CPO or the 03 ES. I finally got the ES because I had to lease for tax reasons, and the lease on the used LS didnt work out. Its a fantastic car, one of if not the best on the road. My dad's has 140,000 miles and its like brand new. They run forever, especially if you treat them well. The CPO is great, the warranty is almost as good (if you get low mileage, it can be better) as the new car warranty. Its three years from your purchase of the car, or 100,000 total vehicle miles. They do a very comprehensive inspection, repaint any damage, do a full detail and replace the tires. Its the closest you can get to new. You do pay a price premium for it, but I'd go for it. You're in luck because all 99s and 00s have the moonroof, the VSC, 6 disc changer and the HID lights, Lexus didnt make them any other way. The navigation system is nice, but its not as sophisticated as the new Lexus system, very costly to upgrade the maps because its a hard drive that must be replaced at a cost of almost $500 when the maps get outdated, and its rare driving up the price. I live in the DC area, and I've seen probably all those blue LSs (I pop into the Lexus dealers often to see whats new and in) I'm going to PM you about one car in particular that I think you'll love.
  14. You get two free updates from Lexus, they made that change for 2003. They'll install them for you, but its as simple as putting a DVD in your computer, the discs come with great instructions. There are some on screen menu things that need to be adjusted. The replacement for the 03 isnt out yet is it?
  15. Its a fantastic car, you'll love it. The nav without the levinson is really a rare car, usually you cant get the nav or the levinson alone. As for the CD changer, it looks as if it would be fairly easy to remove, wouldn't know how to go about it myself but I'm 100% sure the Lexus dealer would remove it for you at no cost when you take delivery. As for the DVDs, you get two free upgrades, version 2003 and version 2004 (2002 is in it, 2003 isnt out yet) and after that they can be had for as little as $150 if you find the right deal on them. They'll discuss all of that at delivery with you. No need to demand anything from a Lexus dealer, delivery goes as smooth as is possible. What color did you get?
  16. I haven't seen one of the ES, the LS, the LX or the GX. I'd like one too.
  17. You can do it yourself. Welcome to the site!
  18. From what I've seen replacing the rear struts can be a somewhat involved job requiring the removal of the rear seats. Someone else who'se done it will chime in... Welcome!
  19. Not sure about the audio questions, not my area of expertise, someone else will be along for them. As for the wheels, since you say 15 inch I assume you want the stock wheels just in chrome? Check out www.aaarims.com they sell original equipment wheels. Welcome!
  20. Its not built to tow... 600 lbs though, it might be able to do it but you'll have to have a hitch installed.
  21. Like Mike said, it is a problem. Its also a problem on some LS units, but not nearly as widespread. Big issue with me is nothing makes a car look older than yellow, condesated crappy headlights. You could have a gleaming 2003, and the headlights would still ruin the look.
  22. Yeah the clear looks like its gone. You can make it look better by buffing but it wont be 100%. Plus you'd need a rotary buffer...
  23. Now that I look at it, they do have 18s but not in chrome. Interesting...
  24. Oh sure. Go to www.tirerack.com they have a great search engine for each particular car, all wheels are garanteed to fit.
