I have an '01 RX300 and just discovered that the master key won't work. I put a fresh battery in and the remote operates the locks but won't start the car. Dealer mechanic told me it's very unusual for the chip to go bad so I'm going to be out $200 for a new key. Have one master that works fine but want to have a spare. Anyone else had this trouble? Thanks

I had the same problem with my windows this summer; wouldn't close, wouldn't open, would bounce back and forth. Took it to my mechanic and he told me the master switch was bad and while it's about $70 in most cars, the one Lexus uses has a mini computer in it and it cost $700. Few days later I learned my "sprained" ankle was actually broken and when I got home that day, didn't close the door tight, so the light stayed on several days (I was stuck in the house on crutches and couldn't drive) until the battery died. Once I was able to jump start the battery, it was like rebooting that master switch computer and it's been fine since.

2001 RX300 One of my master keys no longer works. The remote locks and unlocks the doors but the car will not start. The key fob battery is new and dealer service rep said it's very unusual for the chip in the key to go bad; with my other key, no problem. Anyone else had this trouble?

I brought my '01 RX300 to the dealer today for no heat. Told the servo was bad; part of the AC system that controls air flow. They have to order it so my Lexy is in the shop until Tuesday but at least I have a brand new ES loaner. Car has 100,000+ on it so have to expect stuff to go bad.
