  1. Hi, First of all, I am french. So please excuse my poor english, I'm doing my best. I have a 1992 SC 400. There are less than 5 of these cars in the whole country. nobody knows this model, even the Lexus dealers. This make things more complicated. My power steering has been recently replaced by a remanufactured one (Rock auto). It works when automatic choke runs and when driving. Then, when the engine is higher in temperature, the power steering goes off when shifting reverse gear. RPM goes down a little bit when shifting reverse gear, which is correct I suppose. To get the power steering steering back, I need to accerelate as the same time as I brake ! difficult to do when you back up ! Doses anyone has an idea of the problem ? Thanks for your help.
  2. Hi, I just got my power steering pump replaced on my 92 SC 400. it works perfectly when driving. When I want to back up, I loose 200 RPM when switching reverse gear and I also loose the power steering. Does anyone has an idea of the trouble ? It's quite frustating cause the moment you really need the power steering is when you park.
  3. Hi, I bought my car in France with only a subkey. I got my key number from a dealer in Canada since Lexus France cannot access the american car files. Does anyone know if I can have a wireless remote control type key done with the key number and where in States ? Thanks for your replies. Bodivo.
  4. Hi, I miss the plastic bolt (not really a bolt but don't know the name for it) which goes through the glass into the rear guide. The window is out of balance when operating and get stuck in weird position. As it's the left side, it's very annoying. what worries me is that in my autorepair manual, one says to remove the glass guide with the window glass together, meaning those 2 bolts (upper one and bottom one) are not to be separated from window glass to glass guide. I live in France but can have it shipped to an address in United States. Does anyone know where I can get a pair of these ? Thanks for your help
  5. Hi, I have been asking a driver's side window regulator (1992 SC 400) to few junk yards network. They all have the part but no one is able to ship it to me in France. Does someone has any idea ?
  6. hI, My air conditionend button blinks (SC 400 1992), or engine stops when pushing on the A/C button if the gear shift is on parking position. Does it necessarly mean the compressor is dead ? is there any connection between these two facts? Thanks for your help. Bodivo from France.
  7. Hi, As the car has never been imported to France, I have to do my shoppinfg in the States. I was thinking of getting the parts from Lextreme. I have already purchased OEM parts from them and was satisfied. Bodivo
  8. Yes, I think it's the same 1UZ-FE as on the LS400. www.lexls.com has a good tutorial on this, under "engine mechanical". I don't think there are any strange tools that you need. A torque wrench, of course. A harmonic balancer pulley remover to pull the crankshaft pulley. There are some kits on ebay, do a search on "sc400 timing belt" I have about 180k miles on my LS400 and will be doing mine in about 20k miles. I'll probably replace: Timing belt Water pump Idler pulleys #1 and #2 Timing belt tensioner and pulley Coils (only because mine are original) Distributors Rotors I just did the sparkplugs and wires, or else would do these as well Maybe crankshaft and camshaft seals? Serpentine (drive) belt ...but if you're only at 46000mi (or km?) then I don't think you would need to touch it for awhile! ...so, which is faster, the SC400 or the TGV? :P Bonne chance- Rob Thank you Rob, Your listing is about the same I've done. TGV is much faster than the SC 400, but the pleasure is 20 times bigger in the SC 400. Merci encore et à bientôt Bodivo
  9. Thanks a lot. I might take a chance to wait a little bit more. I just bought a repair manual (on CD). I want to show it to my mechanics to check out if he can manage this work. I hope there are no bolts or anything else requiring specific american tools? Bodivo
  10. Hi, I live in France and own a 1992 SC 400. The local Lexus dealer is unable to change my timing belt. (the car has never been imported to France) the car runs perfectly and is only 46 000 mileaged. Due to its age, I intend to have this job done by my regular mechanics. I need to know what parts should be changed apart from the belt itself. I will order the parts directly. I will probably go for OEM parts. Thanks in advance for your advices. Bodivo
  11. :cries: The SC 400 I just bought (in France) has one white turning light bulb and one amber bulb. In France, all turning lights are amber (the assembly) but all bulbs are white. Which bulb is the correct one? white or amber? I would get less trouble with cops if both bulbs where amber. In this case, have you any idea of where I can get those in USA shipped to France? These amber bulbs (like the one I already get) are unknown in France. Thanks for your help. I'm a poor lonesome French SC 400 owner! :cries:
  12. I JUST PURCHASED A 1992 SC 400 (44K MILES). I LIVE IN FRANCE (BORDEAUX). I WAS WONDERING, SINCE THE LINK TO THE EUROPEAN FORUM IS NOT ACTIVE, IF THERE WAS ANY FRENCH OR EUROPEAN MEMBER ON THE AMERICAN FORUM. I ALREADY LEARNT A LOT JUST BY BROWSING THE PAGES, USED THE LINKS TO ORDER AFTERMARKET PARTS. I JUST HAVE PROBLEMS SOMETIMES WITH COMPANIES WHICH DO NOT WANT TO SHIP OVER TO FRANCE. I HAVE ALREADY SPENT LIKE 20 HOURS ON THE FORUM, DOWNLOADED AN ENGLISH/FRENCH MECHANICS DICTIONARY. THE SC 400 HAS NEVER BEEN OFFICIALY IMORTED IN FRANCE, BUT I'M SURE I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE TO POSSESS ONE. I AM VERY HAPPY AS A NEW MEMBER OF THIS FORUM AND I HOPE MY ENGLISH KNOWLEDGE WILL BE GOOD ENOUGH TO TALK WITH YOU GUYS.
