Dome Light Not Working Properly
Lexusfreak replied to Lexusfreak's topic in 92 - 06 Lexus ES250/300/330
Thanks sk, I'll give it a try! Thanks! -
I leave my dome light on "door" mode all the time & as I understand it (I have read the owners manual several times) the dome light should come on when any of the doors are open (it should also come on as an illuminated entry system when the door(s) are unlooked with the remote entry) but it only comes on maybe 10 - 20% of the time. I fiddle & jiggle the swich itself & the light will come on. Sound like a I should take it to the dealer to get the switch / electrical connections looked at? Any thoughts or advice anyone?

Agreed! A 92' ES 300 is an excellent choice for a first car. Be carful to make sure the vehicle is in good shape first & read the FAQ that skp has advised. If you have (or know of) a good mechanic to get the car inspected would be a wise idea before you purchase it & try to get the service records if there is any.
-
Check the owners manual first, failing that.....I would call your Lexus dealer & see if there are any special cleaners for wood they have or recommend.. I usually just use a damp rag to wipe things like the dash & center console down & twice a year put special vinyl & leather cleaners to keep things looking new. Also, I find a swiffer works great for quick cleanings & to control dust. Stay away from Armor All as it cracks the dash & has a bad reflection in the sunlight that could impair visibility in bright sunlight & is very slippery.

How many miles on the car 41? After correcting the problem, you might want to consider synthetic oil, but most important is to change the oil at regular scheduled intervals is vital. Do you have any service records?
-
I agree with amf, the 10,000 mile service would be a wise idea. Afterwards, take the car for a nice long highway drive. I too traded my 01 Maxima for an 01 ES and am very happy with my car. Good Luck! & welcome to the club. B)

Many thanks everyone! B)

Anybody know of any good websites in the U.S. or Canada that might have a selection of either "salvage" or "rebuildable" ES 300's? (no I didn't crack up / or Total my ES, I'm just courious about some things is all). I've done some searching on Google but I haven't come up with very much. Any site suggestions or advice is appreciated to steer me in the right direction. Looking for pictures of the vehicles as well.

Thanks for the link amf! :)

What exactly does this part look like?? & I assume it's not worth it at all......sounds a little too good to be true!

I'm very close to sk, I got 850kms (530 miles) on a tank with all highway.....got a little nervous when the fuel light came on so I tanked up......I still had a bit to go before she was bone dry......& I only use Sunoco Ultra 94! :D

Where in the GTA would you suggest I try & find the stb? Is it just the TRD Solara bar that would fit or are there some "aftermarket" ones out there? Give me a list of stb's & places I should call if possible.......the only one that comes to mind is Performance Improvements, but they deal mostly with muscle American cars. They had very little in the way of stuff for my old Maxima so I think they would have even less for the Lexus. Any help is much appreciated.
-
Thanks sk, although I think that's a bit disappointing the fact I would have to modify the hood :( Dosen't seem worth it to me now.......now is that all 97 - 01 ES models or just the ones equipped with the AVS suspension? What kind of modifications would we be talking about here exactly?
-
skp, I have a posting about my 01' ES for a stb with the factory AVS suspension. First off, can I do it withoug !Removed! the system up? second, can I get the bar in Canada or is it something I should order from the states? If I can get it in Canada, please tell me where, what kind of bar, website, etc. Many thanks in advance!
-
I appreciate your feedback steviej! B) Has anybody done this mod with the AVS suspension? If you have, please tell me the kind of STB you have put on your ES & where the best place(s) are to get them as well as the price I can expect to pay (roughly). I will be in the U.S. for almost 3 weeks this May going from the top of I-75 (Michigan) all the way to the bottom (Florida Keys). So if anyone can recommend stores &/or websites, that would be of great help. Many thanks everyone! B)

Hi everyone, not sure if this is a silly question or not, but here goes: (I asked this before but did not receive hardly any responses & specifics). My 01' ES has the factory Adjustable varible suspenion (AVS) that is controlled with a computer & a switch on the center console. It also has a small metal casing and wires coming out of the strut towers. Can I get a STB for my car or because of the adjustable suspension already on the car, or is one even necessary as I can adjust it to a "sport mode" for a firmer ride & handling? thoughts & opnions? Do I risk messing up anything by installing one? I'm worried about those wires and the metal casing I mentioned & what is the best one to install? Do they make on for the 97 - 01'? Thanks in advance!

steviej hit the nail on the head about the Bridgestone RE92's. They came factory on my 01' Maxima & I have never had a worse tire on a car in my life.....even light rain made me extremely nervous as the car was unpredictable, I'm not even going to get into snow & slush conditions. Good advice, stay away from the 92's.

I use Sunoco Ultra 94......Lowest sulphur content ppm. Engine runs fantastic! Usually when I travel to the U.S. I use either Sunoco, Mobil premium or Citgo 93.

Thanks for the feedback ob & drop......yes the power steering fluid is right up & actually has brand new fluid (the same noise was happening before the fluid was changed). I'm leaning towards something in the steering column needs lubrication as the steering feels fine & you don't hear the noise under the hood, just in the passenger compartment when turing the wheel either way.
-
When I'm driving (or just at idle) and turing the steering wheel, I hear a faint "humming" sound coming from the steering column. It's not loud by any means, but can get annoying.......just sounds like some parts or wires are rubbing together when you turn the steering wheel. Anybody have a similar experence &/or know what it is & how to correct it? I was thinking of spraying some lubricant in the steering column area kinda thing. Advice?
-
Go with factory originals (it should mention what kind they are in the owners manual or lift up your hood & it might say on the right hand side with a sticker). My 01 has Iridium (factory) and I just changed them with the exact same ones. Yours will most likely need either Denso or NGK. They will either be the platinum or iridium type & both last quite a long time so no worries! :D Good luck!

Steviej, I'm glad we both have an excellent sense of humour! B) I look forward to the start of the season :D Now if only find out how I can get the Blue Jays logo up here lol :D SW, point well taken & thanks........no worries on this end however......the car is under full factory warranty plus I have the "Lexus" extended coverage as well so I'm good for 3 more years. Your bang on about the service advisors being salesmen......I wouldn't put a lot of stock in them if the car was not covered. -
