I wonder how Red Line synthetic oil compares to the Mobil 1 & Amsoil synthetics?

vev mentioned he did that consistant speed for about 1 1/2 hours at that speed. He was lucky by the sounds of it 2 ways. 1 his tires didn't fail & he is still alive, & 2 he still has a drivers licence by the sounds of it lol

Lexur, let me know how you like the Falkin's....my finance needs new rubber for her car (2003 Ford Focus ZX5 - 205 50 16 which is a bit of a rare size but Falkin makes them in that model tire) I've heard good things about the Falkins. Any feedback would be appreciated. They did awesome in the latest Consumer Reports used car guide on tire evaluations!

Welcome Brass :) I'm 27 & on my first Lexus (owned a 1991 Old's 88, 91' Buick Riviera & a 2001 Nissan Maxima SE 20th A.E. before that so your doing alright). The ES 250 is certainly a rare breed compared to the ES 300's & now 330's. The Toyota Camry from 87 - 91 is as you know basically the same car (except the Lexus is dipped in gold B) ) Try www.toyotanation.com if you are not having much luck on these forums. Welcome paul :) I know some Lexus dealers carry an "engine flush" that they can put into the crank case just before doing an oil change to get some of the sludge out......not 100% sure how effective it is however Perhaps JPI or someone can shed more light on this for you. It's unfortunate I know :( It's always very important when purchasing a used vehicle to check & see if regular maintenance has been performed. Perhaps phone a couple Lexus / Toyota Dealers and see what they have to say.

Agreed it's quite simple......might want to consider a K & N filter for better air flow, & a tad more performance.

I agree with setviej, it depends on what your comfortable with. I use to use fram as well way back. I stick with Mobil 1 both oil (5w30) & their oil filter which has synthetic media for better & more efficent filtering. Lot's of back & forth comments on the issue however, so to each their own really. Look up some other write up's on the subject as there have been many tests on the different filters available on these threads. B)

About twice a year, I put a bottle of Valvoline Synpower "fuel system cleaner" (not the fuel injector stuff) before I go on a long highway drive.....I notice a inprovement in fuel milage & a bit better pick up when accelerating. It's good stuff......always use a quality brand name gasoline too. B)

Agreed! If one were to do that kind of speed for a long period of time I would suggest to equip the car accordingly (assuming one still has a licence & not in jail going at those speeds) A tire that's not rated for those speeds could fail & then it's the "phone call from the horizontal telephone booth". :(

I'd consider going with factory spec as well.......although you can put iridium instead of platinum (iridium has a higher heat tolerence over platinum but they last roughly the same time). NGK or Denso's are the way to go! B)

As cool & unique as that mod is, why would anyone need that feature? One can argue if parking in a tight space or something but they fold anyways (manually yes, but still) perhaps to "impress" the ladies? seems redundant in my view. another thing to go wrong down the road.

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S are a fantastic tire but VERY expensive!! :( It's fair to say there is no such thing as a fantastic all season tire, but you can come close! I suggest the Michelin or consider a set of Toyo Proxes TPT's! There is more info in this section about them if you do a search. Welcome to the club & good luck! B)

Welcome Jazz! B) The Toyo Proxes TPT's have been fantastic on my ES. Excellent in the rain & snow/slush......fairly long tread life & quiet comfortable ride. Excellent value for the price! If you get them, let us know how you like em! If memory serves, lexusk8 also has a set of the TPT's and has good things to say about them as well. The Bridgestone Potenza RE 92's were the worst tire I've ever had on any of my cars......aweful even in light rain & extremely dangerous in the light snow too.......I'll never have a car (new or used) with either Bridgestone or Firestone tires. I use Mobil 1 5W 30 myself & have no complaints at all. But agreed, all the oil's you mentioned are "top shelf" B)

You would have to be doing that consistant speed for a long time before the tire would fail vev. If you do it once it's not going to do anything.......just don't get pulled over or you'll be asking the bus driver what speed rating his tires are! I agree completely with both steviej & lexusk8. I hae an 01 ES with a "top shelf" set of Toyo Proxes TPT all seasons with the traction control & brake assist. Drive with "common sense" and the car will get you thru the winter, snow & slush with ease. I think lexusk8 has the same tires I do to boot. Am I correct? :)

Every tire maker has there good & bad models. A lot of apprehension over the Ford Explorer issue. For the type of cars both myself & my soon to be wife drive....Bridgestone & Firestone will not be getting business from us anytime soon. I either stick with Toyo (Proxes TPS's) or a good Michelin for my better half. Falken tires did extremely well in the latest Consumer Reports tire ratings! Came in first in the Performance touring all season category! go figure!

Agreed gents!! B) I just tinted my 01 & it's lookin sweet! I hope to post some pics of here real soon! The ES is fantastic & I agree with lexusk8, the stock sound system is all I need as well.....love the 6 disc changer too!! The adjustable suspension makes a bit of a difference depending on what roads your on & the HID's look sharp at night! :D

Haven't heard anything myself. Best bet is to check the "future vehicles" section of Motortrend & Edmunds.com. Any changes to the 05 will most likely be minor & cosmetic in nature.

Glad it's fixed! So because of the bad valve, your tire pressure monitoring system was not registering correctly? Thought Lexus would have put a warning light in the car for something like that.
