Anyone Had Oil Changes @ Toyota Dealer?
Lexusfreak replied to 90LS400Lexus's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
If you know the correct Toyota oil filter for your LS, why not make a call to the dealer again just to see if they have any in stock as they might be used for other Toyota vehicles......if not, I dought there would be a big deal if you ordered several from the parts dept & just brought them there when you go to get an oil change in the future. B) -
In the 205 65 15 size I would go with either The Toyo Proxes TPT in either H or V speed rating depending on what your car needs. (you can check them out at either www.toyo.com or www.tiretrends.com as they do not sell them on tirerack) or also a new tire from Yokohama called te H4 S (H rated of course). They both have a long tread life & excellent traction & temperature ratings. I personally have the Toyo's in the V speed rating & love them! B) I had the Yoko's on my "short list" but my 01 ES 300 requires a V speed rated tire (yokohama also makes a V4 S) but I could not get my exact size. I would stay away from the Michelin as they are not as good as the Toyo or Yoko in the bad rain or snowy conditions. Let us know what you decided. You can check out some more info on the Toyo tires in either the Tire & wheel forum or the ES forum. Good luck!

Looking For Eibach Dealer/installer In Toronto
Lexusfreak replied to Laberty's topic in 92 - 06 Lexus ES250/300/330
Where abouts in Toronto are you Lab? & welcome! B) -
Agreed, see how the kit is when you drive it on the stock set up for a while before you lower the car. You have less of a chance of serious damage (depending how low the kit hangs down) to start off with to see how those speed bumps, high sloped driveways etc. :)

I wonder what a tranny for an ES is worth?

There are several Nissan clubs actually Granda, try www.freshalloy.com B) I assume it leaks after the car has been driven & shut off? Try putting a large piece of cardboard under the car to narrow down a location of where it's coming from. Do you have a reliable mechanic you can take it too or just the dealer? It's hard to tell from the info you have provided what the fix might be without any pics or more detailed info. Try that site I suggested......it's a Nissan club site! Good Luck!

Tires, tires, Looking For A Great All Season Tire
Lexusfreak replied to joeygoodtimes's topic in Wheels and Tires Forums
I considered putting them on my ES wws, they were on my short list but only came in "H" rated for my tire size & I needed "V" rated. I've heard good things about them. -

Slight 'clunk' When Shifting Into Drive
Lexusfreak replied to DobieG's topic in 92 - 06 Lexus ES250/300/330
My transmission shifts a tad harsh when I first put it into gear about 30 - 45 seconds after start up, as the car warms you can no longer notice it anymore. The idle seems a bit high to me on your car......mine is a couple hundred RPM's lower than 1750 right after starting up. I don't think it's anything serious however. -
Nice pics Jules! Welcome to the club! Where abouts (roughly) are you in the Toronto area?

The kit looks sharp! B) However, just be careful when driving as if the kit is too low (along with lowering the suspension etc) you can very easily shatter the front part on high curbs, bad pot holes, steep drivways. My co-worker put one on his Honda Prelude (on stock suspension & not that low compared to what you can get) spend over $1500.00 & within 2 months went too fast coming out of a steep driveway from a mall.......the front was destroyed! :( He has taken the rest of it off the car now. From an appearance standpoint they look nice, but it's an expensive lesson as they are only made of plastic, fibreglass or carbon fibre. Good luck!

Hi guy's, I just had a few questions relating to the GS 300/430 (model year 02+) L-tuned/TRD suspension. I currently own a 01 ES but have some questions regarding the GS 300/430 for future reference as it's a georgous car & something I might consider down the road. Any help is appreciated. - Is the L-tuned/TRD STB the same for the GS 300 & 430 & is it a fairly easy install? Please explain. - I noticed you can get "braces" for under the car as well both front or back. Please explain the purpose(s) for them (in detail) and are they just "bolt on" modifications or they tricky to install? Will they improve the ride of the car or make the GS ride more "harsh"? I would use the car as a daily driver not for any type of racing applications. Finally, would the under car "braces" be even necessary if I already have the STB? - Where would be the cheapest place(s) or websites to get these items in the U.S. & Canada? (perferably Canada to avoid any duty charges) Are there any places that "discount" these items for LOC or CL members & specifically how much? Any contacts would be a big help. M Many thanks everyone for your help! B)

I hear ya NT, I was a member of maxima.org as well & many were quite ignorant & that putting it nicely B) I agree the maxima had pretty awesome power (I had the 227 hp 3.0L) so I know the 03 had an additional boost. My SE's ride was terrible without any suspension mods so I know exactly what you mean (hey, they don't call it the 4 door sports car for nothing lol ). I was a bit disappointed with the resale value too considering it was Japanese......but let's face it, Nissan is basicly the "Chrysler" of the Japanese imports. I wouldn't go as far as to say the ES an over priced Camry (I thought that too at the beginning), as you are partially correct (in fact the ES shares about 25% of the Camry in total, the rest is Lexus's doing) so I would keep an open mind at the start & drive both vehicle's before you make you decision. Do yourself a favour & test drive a 2000 or 2001 loaded V6 Camry (XLE) after you take out an ES because trust me, there is a big difference believe it or not. Both are excellent choices however, & the ES will be quite a bit less expensive than the GS on the used car market generally speaking. Keep us posted!

Agreed, with the exception of a "face lift" the ES 330 will have the same mechanicals with the exception of a possible hybrid as steviej mantioned.

Es 250 Engine Rotates But Won't Start!
Lexusfreak replied to tekkenm2000's topic in 92 - 06 Lexus ES250/300/330
My suggestion would be (there are not very many members with an ES 250) try to ask the exact same question on www.toyotanation.com (sign up & go the the Camry forums) since your ES is the same as the early 90's Camry.....someone there might be able to suggest mor options. It could be something simple perhaps like a clogged fuel filter? You mentioned the plugs were firing......when was the last time you had a complete "major" tune up? Could possibly be carbon build up in the throttle body It could be a numer of possibilitites......if you can't seem to fix it, do you have a reliable mechanic? -
You have never heard of Sunoco in BC? :o Your kidding? what major brands of gas do you have there besides Shell, ESSO & Petro Canada?

I traded my 01 Nissan Maxima SE 20th A.E. in on my 2001 ES. I considered the GS but because of the harsh winter conditions we have here in Ontario, the ES was the better choice because of the FWD. The GS 300 (stock) is heavier & larger than the ES so I'm not sure how much better off the line performance will be. I feel the with the equipment I got on the ES (loaded including the factory AVS suspension.....the only thing It does not have is the chrome wheels), there are not a whole lot of performance mods one can do to make a huge difference in the overall performance (I've added a K & N filter, tint, switched to synthetic oil & Mobil 1 & K & N oil filters). If I was to get a GS, I would have to seriously consider the GS 400 over the 300 personally....there is a reason why the ES has only the one engine & the GS has two engine choices but is pricer than the ES on the used car market. But if your into serious mods, the GS would be the way to go. Let us know what your decision is, good luck! & welcome to the club B) Why have you decided to trade the Maxima in (I read your post, but had no major issues with mine, but have to say I was never impressed with Nissan service that's for sure!)? just courious if there are any other. ;) I also agree with steviej, mods you can do to the GS are vast, but can end up costing you an astronomical amount over time.

What type of transmission fluid does your owners manual say should be used roam? You have to be careful as you might be only able to use a certain kind of Toyota ATF called Type IV (type 4) fluid & nothing else. If it dosen't state that fluid specifically, then you can go with synthetic/ B)
-
Agreed, that exactly wat the problem sounds like. B)
-
Only problem is I'm in Scarborough & the closest one is in Richmond hill lol There use to be several in Scarborough but now they are used car lots or parking lot's.
-
Good point & I agree. B)
-
The owners manual says for "best performance" they suggest using 91 octane or higher, but 87 octane is OK. When it's cheap I use the Sunoco ultra 94 & I do use pioneer once in a while too......they are either owned by Sunoco or they are supplied with Sunoco gas. B) On my recent trip to Florida, I used nothing but high octane because it was cheap.....I say cheap because compared to the price we pay up here it would cost us about $3.80+ for a gallon (for regular!) compared with $2.20 a gallon for high octane! B)
