Get charcoal tint & get the 20% (medium) tint on all windows.....keep it one colour & the car will look sharp! Good Luck! Post some pics after you get it tinted! B) BTW, you can get a charcoal tint that is not reflective....just make sure it's a high quality "metalized" tint for scratch resistence & duribility.

Perhaps try an autowrecker / salvage yard for the whole unit for a fraction of the price?

I decided on the ES for a number of reasons: Reliability/Dependability, Love the styling, "Lexus Status", comfort, performance, dealer service (under warranty). The car is pretty much bulletproof if taken care of properly! I'll buy another one down the road for sure! :D B)

I'm a Canadian so I'm an "outsider" looking in if you will. It's weird that for the most part Canadians know much more about Americans they the other way around (again for the most part). I follow events that happen to our American friends (and around the world) all the time......Gotta LOVE CNN! :D No President that I can recall or have researched in history books has been perfect. President Bush has made some mistakes to be sure, but overall I think he has done a fantastic job since the day the world changed! I feel he deserves to be re-elected & hope he is! I am embarrassed to say my government has not stood shoulder to shoulder with our neighbours to the south as I feel we should have! Let me put it this way: If Canada was attacked (god forbid) in any way who would we expect to come to our rescue? The Americans that's who! Because we depend on them to protect us since we are so close to them & their biggest trading partner (and have next to no Military in which to defend ourselves.....we had to borrow bullets from the Spanish army during the Bosnia conflict for god sakes! :chairshot: ). Michael Moore's movie did not change my opinion at all either although it has some eye opening tidbits and was even amusing the odd time. I have every special taped from the events of September 11th (about 7 different ones) including one called: 9/11 a President's Story...on TLC....I ask Michael Moore why none of that (or a number of other specials which were well done) got into his little documentry....because it's so biased it's not even funny. Sorry to ramble everyone, just my 2 cents......keep the Commander-in-chief you have & re-elect him, he has done a fine job! :) I wish we had a leader with as much gut's as he does. Kerry can't make up his mind on anything it seems.....& I agree 1UZ, that cartoon was hilarious :)

Mobil 1 5W 30 for this 01 ES owner as well! B) Use a high quality oil filter as well.

Depending on size, go with Toyo Proxes TPT's! :D
-
Sw, disregard my question to you if you were happy with your Toyo's......I read over your comments but I caught them this time around B) ;)
-
SW, are you saying your not happy with your Proxes TPT's?? or were you refering to your previous Bridgestones? & jim, I choose the Toyo's over the Michelins for a number of reasons. I've had previous cars with the MXV4's & not overly impressed with the wet weather performance (especially hard down pours), snow traction was far better with the Toyo's over the MXV4's, the Toyo's are roughly 30 - 40% less expensive with the same treadwear warranty, traction & temperature rating. If you read back on the tire forums here (and also in the ES forums) I have recommended & suggested the Toyo's pretty much all the time! Four of my co-workers have them (they all come to me for automotive advice including tires), & in the next week or so I will also be getting a set of them for my wife's 2003 Ford Focus ZX5 (her original tires are Firestone Firehawk GTA-02's are even worse than the Bridgestone Potenza RE 92's that I've also had on my previous Maxima & they were aweful!). I've even contacted a tire expert that writes for the largest newspaper in Canada (The Toronto Star) & his advice was to go with the Toyo's over the Michelins! The Michelins aren't a bad choice at all, however with some research you will find that the Toyo's are by far the better value with better overall performance for a much cheaper price! What's not to like? B) There are a few reviews for the Toyo at www.tiretrends.com Put the exact size of the tire you need in on the right side of the screen & select the Toyo's for the reviews at the bottom of the screen. You can also check out www.toyo.com or www.toyocanada.com Good luck! P.S. I would buy them again in a heartbeat! :)

Thinking About Buying 2001 Es300
Lexusfreak replied to nicksan's topic in 92 - 06 Lexus ES250/300/330
Post some pics of your new ride nick when you can! B) -
Agreed, the Raix-X washer fluid is awesome stuff! I've tried any different wipers as well (PIAA are out of my league price wise). The Lexus/Toyota are OK for most applications, but the best by far I have tried have from Napa! It's their top "all season" wiper blade (can't remember the exact name & wouldn't you know it! There website is down to boot! :chairshot: ) and a MUCH better blade then anything Bosch or Trico sells for about $30! Something to consider at least once as I will be replacing them before the snow flies. B)

Actually bdonk, my 01 owners manual says to change the oil at 8,000 kms or 6 months (8,000 kms is roughly 5,000 miles!), I do 4 oil changes (use Mobil 1 synthetic) a year regardless, especially because of the remote possibility of the oil gelling issue on the 97 - 01 models.

Is It Too Late To Switch To Synthetic Oil?
Lexusfreak replied to coolwater's topic in 92 - 06 Lexus ES250/300/330
I'm sticking with Mobil 1 5W 30 with supersyn for my 2001 ES. Especially with the cold temps of Canadian winters! Amsoil is way too expensive up here. ake sure you use a high quality oil filter btw. :whistles: -
I have the "Lexus" extended warranty which cost a pretty penny (but so do the parts & labour should anything go wrong). I have the warranty till 120,000 miles & I have only about 52,000 on her now.....so far I have not had one single problem with the car since the regular warranty expired but I do feel comfortable knowing I am covered should anything (knock on wood) happen. Even if the air conditioner compressor goes (as an example) the extended warranty pretty much has paid for itself with the cost of parts & labour as the Lexus dealers in the Toronto are billing $110.00 per hour for labour costs (Canadian dollars). :whistles:

The RX is either 100% built in Japan or Ontario (Cambridge, Ontario) not small pieces. What does the door jamb sticker say exactly? I'm thinking from what has been mentioned here that yours is a Japan built unit. It really dosen't matter actually.......the RX is the first of ANY Lexus vehicle to be built outside of Japan, and there is good reason why it went to the Cambridge plant.......the place has won so many awards for quality that they area running out of wall space to put them all! They build the Corolla, Matrix & Solara models there (not 100% sure about the Solara convertable however). B)

Tires, tires, Looking For A Great All Season Tire
Lexusfreak replied to joeygoodtimes's topic in Wheels and Tires Forums
I have heard that the Falken 512's are excellent as well. Cheap price with outstanding performance (first overall in a recent major consumer magazine test of 18 high performance tires). Too bad they have very few dealers for after sale service :( -
B) Anytime
-
Try getting the Toyo Proxes TPT's as replacements......I choose them over the Michelin MXV4's any day. The Toyo Proxes j33's are not a good tire, that I agree with & many folks have had lot's of problems with them. Keep us posted as to what your outcome is.

600,000 Miles Without A K&n Or Synthetic Oil
Lexusfreak replied to monarch's topic in 92 - 06 Lexus ES250/300/330
600,000 is pretty good. Like I mentioned in CL, I'll get over a million miles on synthetic! No problem. :P :D -
I use Mobil 1 5W 30 and I have over 50,000 miles on my 01 ES. I use it because it has the cold weather properties for use in Canada & resists breakdown to extreme heat conditions that conventional oil's suffer. Synthetic does not break down like conventional so your getting proper engine protection over the life of that oil change. B)

Synthetic Oil Reccommendations
Lexusfreak replied to lexus-lover's topic in 92 - 06 Lexus ES250/300/330
Mobil 1 5W 30 with either Mobil 1 M1-102 oil filter or K & N oil filter. Change at 5,000 miles and you won't have any problems! B) -
mj, did you purchase the car at a Lexus dealer or another used car lot?
-
you would be putting 2 different tires on the car with different "load ratings" & speed ratings to start with (even if the tires are the same brand & model). Chances are nothing would happen, but why risk it? The handling characteristics are different as well again due to the load & speed ratings (the higher the speed rating, the more reinforced the sidewall) so the car might corner well on one side because the tires are the same but the other will feel strange.
