  1. You press it till temperature display is disappeared. Then press reset button below and do press disp 2 button again. You will get the compass back! :P
  2. I learnt my lesson harshly by buying a used lexus trusting being fooled with "the name" Lexus and "the word" Japanese no matter how clean history is OR 1-owner vehicle. Lucky me.
  3. It has 104K miles. As soon as I noticed AC problem, I turned off both AC and fan fearing of shattered parts get into system, too late I guess. There was no warning sign nor indicator like swinging temperature days before breakdown. Is there was any way of knowing if it (compressor out/burnt) is coming soon or not? Is there any rough usage by previous owner contributed to it?
  4. :cries: My Lexus (1998 GS300) which I bought bearly 2 weeks ago had its AC compressor burnt out and I have to replace AC compressor, clutch, sensor and all scattered parts in the cooling system have to be removed. Local Toyota dealer is asking $2,600 to fix it and I even want to give up willingness to drive a lexus. What a bad luck for me :( What is the usefullness of this car if I have to spend that much even before I start using.
  5. This is from consumer guide; Year to Year Changes 1999 Lexus GS: Addition of standard Daytime Running Lights was the sole change for 1999. 2000 Lexus GS: A standard Brake Assist feature went into both models for 2000, as part of the Vehicle Stability Control system. It automatically provided full hydraulic power in response to quick, strong brake-pedal movement. Child-seat anchors were added to the rear parcel shelf. 2001 Lexus GS: Subtle styling revisions and a larger V8 engine mark a mild freshening of Lexus midline model. The GS 400 becomes the 430 as a 4.3-liter V8 replaced the 4.0-liter unit. All models get side curtain airbags, wood interior trim, and an electronic compass. New audio and navigation systems and high-intensity-discharge headlamps are optional. 2002 Lexus GS: For 2002, the navigation system got revisions including multiroute calculation, simplified graphics, and route preview, along with a faster computer and the ability to play DVD movies on its dashboard screen. 2003 Lexus GS: Lexus' midrange sedan gets only minor trim and equipment changes. 2004 Lexus GS: The GS 300/430 received no major changes in 2004. 2005 Lexus GS: Lexus' midrange sedans are little-changed for 2005. New-design '06 models are expected by summer '05.
  6. Do anyone know if it is too risky to change timing belt in local shop rather than dealer? What if it messes up? I am worry as I do not know nothing about cars. The local shop has experience changing timing belts in a lot of toyota and hondas. Shop price is $300 and dealer asks for $600. Thank you for your answers.
  7. I bought a 1998 GS300 with 103,500 miles for 10,000$ and I am very happy with the car's quality built. Engine noise is almost none, very smooth ride with great handling, sound. I am very happy :D and felt right for making the right decision to buy it. I personally perfer GS model design than SC. I think SC models comes 2 doors only, is it right? The only thing is gas mileage is around only 17 in city driving. I don't know how many miles on highway yet.
