  1. I am curious if the a/c system is depleted of freon, does the compressor have a cut off switch? Here's what is happening. I want to recharge a/c system; however, the compressor is not running and the green light on the dash control is not flashing as stated in the manual if compressor is not running. I thought the compressor had to be running to recharge? To my knowledge, the compressor is not bad. Any help would be appreciated!
  2. My 02 AWD performs well in the snow and ice The AWD system on the RX does have many limitations as has been discussed here many times. But performance in light to moderate snow is one of its stronger points. I suspect black ice or mediocre tires as lexus411 did.
  3. Interesting....I would like to clean my filter and am wondering exactly where it is located on a 02 RX300?
  4. Good luck on your search! As a previous 94 LS owner, here's my thoughts if I were to be in the market for another... 1) Would only be interested in a 1 owner with proven service history 2) Would only be interested in a 98-99 year model 3) All major service completed at a Lexus dealership 4) Complete inspection by a Lexus dealer And lastly, be prepared to dump money in to it if you are looking at the 95'
  5. Typically, the RX300 is rated for 3500lbs with the factory tow system. I've pulled my boat for short distances but do have the factory tow. I would believe it all depends on what boat you are pulling. I wouldn't question it if it were a light boat 2000lbs or less. My boat weighs 3000lbs without the trailer. Compared to the MB SUV, there is no match to Lexus reliability and quality. Although I think the MB doesn't lack quality but if you compare the repair needs, there is no comparison. Good luck!
  6. Thanks for the honest feedback. Based on additional research and the comments of my fellow LOC's experts, I am staying AWAY from the AWD. I am not used to even discussing transmission failures after owning a LS400 and don't want to start. If I decide to purchase the RX300, I will go with the front wheel drive - or maybe I will buy another LS, that is if I win the lottery!!
  7. Thanks again for the info. Does there seem to be as evident of an issue with the 2WD/4WD RX300 transmission vs. the AWD?
  8. Excellent feedback everyone! I still want to hear from more RX owners. I am specifically looking at a 2002 RX300 AWD. LOC Rocks again! :D
  9. I am considering buying a 2001-2002 RX300 and am curious if my fellow LOC members would recommend and buy again if you were in the market. I have finally decided to sell my 94 LS400 and am seriously considering the RX; however, would like to hear from the experts! Thanks for any advice. Lexusonthelake
  10. you made 1 post please don;t duplicate it.
  11. We'll, I think I have decided to upgrade although parting the 94 will be painful. Interested in understanding major differences in the two years. I've heard that the 98 and 99 models were some of the best - do you think that is right. My 94 has 124k and everything has been done - and I mean everything from ball joints, LCD, PS, antenna motor. I've maintained the 94 to perfection and know that I can get another 100k+; however, love this 99 I have been looking at. HELP! If I decide to upgrade based on the experts here, then I will post my 94 for sale here.
  12. I would definitely check the power steering pump for leaks along with the dash displays. I just had to have my power steering done on my 94 and it is a common problem. $8500 is not out of the question if all of the maintenance items are confirmed.
  13. I wish I was more mechanically inclined to perform all these repairs as described which would have saved me a bundle. I knew that some of the repairs could have been fixed more cheaply; however, not being able to do it myself and not being aware of a good lexus mechanic in the twin cities area other than the dealer pushed me over the edge :cries: How much are you looking to get ? Post pix please. ← ←
  14. Not sure on price but somewhere in the range of 8500-9500k. I'll try and post some pics later this week. How much are you looking to get ? Post pix please. ←
  15. Just when I was thinking about selling my 94 LS with 117k and upgrading, I had to dump almost 3k in repairs. The ABS actuator pump (part alone was $1988) and at the same time, the infamous power steering pump was beginning to leak...OUCH! Should have the car back today or tomorrow. Just wondering if everyone thinks I should sell and upgrade or keep her? I have meticulously maintained her at the dealer and keep reading about folks turning 200k+ miles. Anyone looking for a 94 LS, I could be convinced :) Black jade with tan interior Gold Package new tires all maintenance completed and more...
  16. I've used 87 octane for almost a year now with no noticeable difference or any issues.
  17. I recently had my 94 LS400 in for an oil change and tire rotation and asked for an estimate to replace all 4 struts in case I want to have them changed this winter. The estimate was $725. Does that sound high? What costs should I be expecting? I'll want to go with the factory struts. Any feedback is appreciated!
  18. You can't go wrong with Bridgestone Turanza's. Do some research on Tire Rack. Good luck!
  19. I purchased a set of Bridgestone Turanza LS-H's last summer and have been very pleased with these tires. They offer excellent wet traction, queitness and are a bit wider profile for handling. Would recommend these tires by far! lexusonthelake
  20. I'm currently looking to upgrade from my 1994 LS with 98k and am curious what you think market value is? I know that I can review KBB or Edmunds; however, who knows best other than all of us??? It is black jade with tan interior and has been meticuously maintained by dealer. Any feedback would be appreciated.
  21. :) I think you guys just performed a Consumer Reports rating on all import luxury cars:) Back to the original questions, I too have owned Infiniti's and although they are excellent cars, they do not compare to the LS400. Should we start selling lexus forum ratings????:):)
  22. I too agree with some of the comments of concern about the police auction. I guess the bottom line is that for a 14 year LS400, you need to be prepared for expenses outside of the purchase price. Good luck and best of luck!
  23. Some of the history that Lexus uses is not shown on most printouts; however, if you ask for the detail of each service, they should have this. If you don't get the service you expect, then you should call Lexus and file a complaint against the dealer or go directly to the GM. Lexus dealers are held to high standards and you should receive the highest level of service. Denying someone a copy of service records is not acceptable. You may however need to prove ownership in the worst case scenario.
  24. As a 1994 Gen 1 owner, I highly recommend the Gen II if your going to make a purchase. Althought the Gen I is a great car, there are some substantial improvement like suspension! Spend the extra money and go with GenII.
  25. I agree that it appears the suspension has been modified. Can't really judge the condition based on the pic. If it were me, I would be more interested in newer and definitely GEN II. These are great cars, so check the maintenance items already mentioned and go with your gut! GOOD LUCK!
