  1. Thanks for the help everyone I will check the brake pedal switch first. Does that same switch activate the brake lights?
  2. The gear selector sticks intermitently i had to rescue my wife as she could not get the car out of park. I got it to work for a while after getting the car home I put it in and out of park about 2 dozen times no sticking then it stuck again had to play around with it to get it to work again. Does anyone know how to take it apart and clean or adjust the push button?

Does anyone know how to take it apart and clean or adjust the push button? the switch on the brake pedal does it also control the brake lights?
  4. with engine running open the hood and spray carberetor cleaner at and around the vacuum lines and connections one at a time when carberetor cleaner is sucked in at vacuum leak the rpm will rise then you will know where the leak is at
  5. ← What leads you to believe you have a vacuum leak?
  6. That is a common problem with lexus in cold weather during the summer months it will work fine there are locations on this website you can remove cluster and ship to san francisco or canada and have repaired for about 175.00 they replace some faulty capacitors or live with it and come may it will work fine mine does the same thing as the car warms up it iluminates agian i havent had it fixed yet my email is dpecks@surewest.net if you need further help locating the information. search for dash lightd in the forum there is plenty of information on this problem but nothing to be concerned with
  7. The check engine light should come on when key is turned to the on position and go out once car starts maybe something is unplugged to the computer?
  8. The car is starting. Physically I can not move the shifter knob from parking to drive. I did not have a volt meter last night, i will get some test done today. Thanks, Lexuscar ← If the car starts the battery is probably ok the windows and such take far less amperage than the starter try checking the fusible links there are 3 of them under the hood behind the battery they are about 1 inch square and different colors depending on current range. PS they bolt in they do not plug in
  9. You may want to indicate your location
  10. jump start car again and check voltage at battery with engine running should be a minimum of 13.5 volts if not it is your charging system. the battery should be 12.8 fully charged engine not running. and by the way heat does shorten battery life
  11. If they are excide made batteries you would probably not get more than 2 years out of them I always inquire as to the manufacturer before purchasing as excide makes batteries under numerous names. I aggree with the previous post stick with ACDElco or interstate.
  12. I would change the battery it can have a shorted cell periodically moving it can unshort it thus a good test battery is still bad i have experienced this 3 times over last twenty years.
  13. I would stay away from die hard they are made by excide and are problematic. I would go with interstate or delco
  14. With engine running and battery connected check the voltage at the battery terminals it should be around 13.8 volts if it is only around 12.8 your alternator is bad if 13.8 or higher alternator is probably ok.
  15. Autozone can order one for you $180.00 lifetime warranty I would recomend that over rebuilding my 93LS400 was doing the same thing working periodicaly continued after rebuild must have been a short inside alternator. replaced 6 months ago with one from autozone no more problems
  16. It is not necessary to drain coolant when changing the heater core valve some may escape but not more than a quart
  17. should not have to remove in order to replace valve cover gaskets they are on top however sometimes removing the cover helps visibiility while working on top and it can be removed in 5 minitues so it is possible they removed it
  18. actually the under cover is plastic they are subject to being knocked loose if bottom of car scrapes something like speed bumps or gutters. the cover is held in by screws that go into plastic inserts and can be purchased for about 3.00 at lexus
  19. Most A/C systems do have a filter/orifice inside the pressure line to capture contaminates in the system not for oder if that screen becomes clogged the A/C will not blow cold air perhaps that is the filter the mechanic changed?
  20. I also purchased my pump at autozone around 100.00 and replaced it and the alternator at the same time.
  21. hello again, also one thing probably happen was when cleaning the throttle body some of the gunk or deposits went into the IACV, thats why youre getting the high idle even after warm up i think normal idle is like 600 plus or minus 50 rpm, dont qoute me on this but somewhere in this ballpark, If throttle body is ok try checking to see if a vacuume hose got knock loose in the process the engine computer will raise idle speed if a vacumme leak is present to keep ingine from stalling
  22. I have a 93 LS400 2 weeks ago dash light came on and battery was not charging. I live in Sacramento, CA and no one including Lexus dealership had a new alternator on hand I find that amazing, anyway I removed the alternator and took it to a local rebuild shop they rebuilt it for me and I installed it along with a new battery. I checked it with a volt meter not running 12.6V, running 14.4V test drove car and re-checked with same results 2 days later dash light came on again and battery discharged. I charged battery overnight so I could troubleshoot the problem when I checked voltage with engine running the next morning it was putting out the proper 14.4V I put a load on it by turning on headlights and it quit charging again. I turned off lights still no charge at battery, stoped and restarted several times and will not put out voltage. I am pulling out my hair at this point it seems to be heat related as it is putting out a charge when first started and then dropping to 12V after a few minutes. I removed the alternator again and took it to the local Kragen, and autozone both of them said it is good however there test is only a few seconds and I allready know it will work for a few minutes. has anyone ever experienced this type of thing before? any help would be appreciated at this point I will have to order a new alternator and see if that corrects the problem. Does anyone know of any checks I could perform while the alternator is out of the car such as wiring or relays ETC?
  23. I suspect it may be the speedometer cable check to see if it related to car speed or engine speed does it go away in park while changing engine speed?
