  1. HAY BODE... just to set you straight NO the solenoid is NOT right on top of the starter... it is right UNDERNEATH.. didnt you look at my photos??? both of ours are 99 ls400's

plus when you try to take those two bolts out behind the block..... well I dont want to scare you...

AND But, it could also be dead spots on the coil or bad contacts, brushes, I think they still call them that. NEVER saw that failure... on a LS400

I am out of here, make your choice and good luck

  2. well I ran into a snag on my new bushings (it is just a time snag) I dont have all the equipment I need to pull the arms off, remove the old bushings and press in the new and put it back together..
my old body cant do the work anymore (without a lot of pain), SO I just bought a pair of new arms for 150.$ (probably made in china or some cheap country that makes them for china).. I will put them on,
and see how they do while I do the R&R on my 28$ bushings and then decide if I continue or change them out.. I will keep you posted... the original arm/bushing lasted 210k, and I (at 83 in june) will never
    approach that...

  3. the VSC lamp is an all purpose lamp or trouble indicator..... (something is out of position, not necessarily faulty) on one of mine, it was the rubber oring seal around the gas cap. I removed it, put a new one on and it went off...

Is you VSC light on by itself, or is it on with a Check Engine Light as well. If it is just the VSC light then you need a Zero-Point calibration. This is supposed to be only done at a toyota/lexus dealer. They take out the VSC computer and run their diagnostics program and reset and configure(calibrate) your vehicles VSC. I personally would disconnect both battery terminals for at least an hour, even better overnight, this should allow enough time to have all the electricity drain completely from those computers. Hopefully this would reset everything. I would try this before going to the dealer, try to save some money. If it is the VSC and CEL(Check Engine Light), then you would have to get the codes read at AutoZone....they do this for free unlike the dealer and then post your codes up on this forum.

    Hi Billy

Could you please post a picture of that shield, it could save a lots of troubles to all the users around the globe for a small mod to save the alternator...

yes as soon as they remove the lower shield so I can get a photo, right now I dont need anything done... but I will.  used an ice cream "tub"  and cut it to fit for the connector and the three prong fitting on the back.

this is not mine but real close.....
