  1. yes the rectangular box is attached to the pipe. There is a bolt on the passenger side. Take it out carefully.. There is a fill hole for engine right next to the thermostat.
  2. Welcome, Seems like coils were your problem. Trying to fix electricals is risky...
  3. I think Its near the left rear wheelwell. Theres a cover on it. Should be same procedure as 91. Search.
  4. Could be the wires to ECM. Try disconnecting battery. You might have messed something up when u replaced the water pump...
  5. your door latch mechanism which engages with door jam hook normally has engaged on its own. Use a screwdriver to pull the locking latch out while pulling door handle. Then Lube it well.
  6. definitely not Thanks. I just wanted to be sure that there would not be enough movement to cause seals to shift and bind. I have been to my local Lexus dealer half a dozen times in the last 2 years on this vibration issue, suggesting they check mounts, but always they come back with - you need new tires. I have now purchased new tires twice - first set feathered in 5-6k miles, and now just bought another set. Vibration is still there. Do dealers not have a clue about the proper condition/life expectancy of mounts and/or the common causes of vibration? I am sick of "it's the tires" as the stock answer. I have come so close to selling my beloved 90 LS - 210 k miles, mint, all records since new - because I am frustrated beyond all reason with the vibration issue and lack of dealer understanding. How they could test drive the car with new tires, say "there's now just a little vibration" and think the problem is solved is beyond me. So....I think I'll take the advice of others on this post and just buy the mounts online and go to an indie shop and take a flyer on it and see what happens - hate to part with a car I think is a joy to drive when right. If your mounts have never been replaced, then thats the reason of vibration.
  7. The cover behind the seat which has the storage slot comes off by unscrewing 2 screws on the bottom end of cover. Then you will see a horizontal metal rod on the lowest area of the back. It has pulled out from its gears at the inner end. Just use pliers to push it back in. (first make sure the seat is level) You can also try using liquid weld to make sure it stays.
  8. Hi its probably something simple. Why do you think your egr is bad? White smoke might be PS fluid leaking into intake (very common ) Actually sounds like your coil is gone bad and its the unburnt fuel smell and smoke you can see. Check all ignition system. Pull diagnostic codes. Check here www.lexls.com...
  9. Finally a qn I can answer! You need the special socket to remove that bolt. Theft deterrent locking wheel bolts.
  10. Oh no they are the front and rear sway bar bushings...
  11. The car feels like in Neutral all the time. I can't feel the engine at all. Have to look at rpm needle. Very good feeling.
  12. Hi, Here is the procedure I used to change my mounts: Scroll to Fifth post... I hope it helps. Cheers :)
  13. I didn't order thru website. Used order form and phoned in credit card info. Talk to Caesar http://www.carsontoyota.com/html/parts.html parts@carsontoyota.com
  14. thats too much for a vague diagnose. Take it to a dealer for diagnose or lexus specialist. The loud bang is from backfire. you might have a bad coil or sparks or distributors. get a second opinion
  15. Got these a few days ago. Carson's. Will take photos if you guys want when i install. Assuming i can install by myself.
  16. You lucky man....teasing us with your minor maintainance issues !
  17. Hi, looks like its your motor mounts. I have to replace mine in a few days. I did my tran mount and it reduced the vibration exactly 1/3. So you should order all 3 and replace. Get oem only.
  18. Could you tell me which bushing is responsible for crack and tiny bumps feel getting thru to cabin at low speeds like 10mph? I know the shocks are ok in my car but i want to replace only the bushing needed. I guess it will be the ones directly in line with wheels and body but which ones?
  19. Hi, My 91 LS400 makes a Thunk sound when i take it out of park when its on incline or a decline. Not on perfectly level ground. Its like the drivetrain is under stress and removing from P unloaded it. The sound kinda comes from rear of car. If I use parking brake then, there is no thunk. The mechanism that locks up drivetrain in P seems to be holding the weight of the car on incline. Is it supposed to be like that? Is there a bushing that needs changing? Bali
  20. Good post mossyoak, If people still don't get it, they never will.
  21. If you dont want to make it perfect, and just want it as a daily driver, and have a garage. You can fix it yourself for much cheaper. (assuming chassis structure is not damaged)
  22. Hey Pete, You can remove the console and clean up and lube the gear lever mechanism you know. I did it. Found a lot of spilled thick coffee and some other junk. Then i greased the whole thing. lexs has a tutorial on his site.
  23. Oh no not another thread on the same topic! Humans tend to igrore long term effects in favor of short term. (Just like eating junk food) Running with lower octane will. a ) Knock engine as knock sensors dont work 100% of times. Knock is very bad for your piston-rod-crank apparatus. b ) When knock sensors do work, delayed spark will result in lower performance and bad gas mileage. But HEY you save 4 bucks. Have a big-mac.
  24. I learned the hard way to always spray with WD40 first. You may try tapping with a chisle. Or may have to make a groove with a dremel to the shape of your tool.
