  1. #1 is a big sales feature, you cannot lock the keys in your car or trunk. #2 - Someone can drive away in your car if you leave it running without the FOB, but, once they turn the car off, they cannot re-start it. So, say you drive your car with your significant other somewhere to drop you off. You get out and take the keys with you and your significant other goes away to get gas. They turn the car off, now they are stuck at the gas station. So, heed the warning. When you hear the beep, take the keys out of your pocket or whatever, and hand them the key. A thief can only go as far as there is gas or turn the car off. If you leave your car running, even with FOBless cars (with keys), people can drive away. Don't leave the car running and without posession of the key or FOB.
  2. I agree, pretty reasonable compared to what you guys are paying out on the Ea$t Coa$t!
  3. Do a search on this subject on this model. You will find a lot of information on it, but do know that it is "normal" in that it happens to all ES350's. There are at least 3 explanations ranging from "piston slap", to a louder than usual engine due to it being chain drive as opposed to belt drive. But everybody agrees to engine temperature being the main cause and then going away when it reaches regular operational temps.
  4. So the exerpt from the owner's manual is not correct? Or so difficult to interpret that it has to be re-written so many times?
  5. On the cost of maintenance subject, I just took in my Highlander to the Toyota dealership. The 15K service was $140, where at the Lexus for my ES was $220. That's an $80 difference, and what does it get you? First and foremost you get a loaner. Second, you don't have sit in your car while somebody can come to your car... You get escorted into the service technician's office without any wait, because there are so many less cars being taken in. I was out in the semi-cold of Arizona waiting for my Toyota Tech (no big deal, just making a point). Then there is the waiting room, I haven't seen the Toyota one yet, but I know the Lexus one has pastries, all kinds of different coffees, waters, sodas, etc, only one other person in there, and full control of the DirectTV and great leather chairs. When I take my car in the morning I go with my pre-teen son, as I sit in the tech's office, he gets himself some breakfast and some TV before school. He doesn't complain. Then when we leave he will compare how different the loaner is from ours, but I must say, the loaners are in great shape! At Toyota I had to get my wife to drive the other car to pick me up taking up the time of two productive people for one task. And, what to do with the kid, we both have to take him to school. Again, two people for another task. Now, I am at work and I can't go anywhere, I have no car. It may not be worth a whole $80, but it sure makes life a whole lot easier! Oh yeah, I forgot, now someone has to take me there to pick it up when it is ready! A third task that must occupy two people to perform. I tried to take my HL to the Lexus dealership, but they said they wouldn't give a loaner if it is not a Lexus. The $80 seems worth it for busy people that can afford it!
  6. Personally, I put a box that was a bit of a tight fit in the back seat and either putting the box in or pulling it out, the corner of the box scraped there. At first I thought it was an oil or ink stain from the box. Then I saw that it was the coating that scraped off. It happens very easily, I would like to know what was used to touch it up.
  7. Proximity to 5K miles since the last time the re-set was done triggers the light. When an oil change gets done, certain steps have to be done by your local trustworthy mechanic to re-set that count. It was discussed earlier this month. I'll post a link to it here. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=52612 If you look at my post I put a picture of the owner's do-it-yourself maintenance manual on how it needs to be re-set at every oil change and how to do it. This is stuff that local mechanics don't really care about but can get irritating when it happens. Is it worth the extra $120? To some people it is...
  8. Somebody was kind enough to put a former thread that had thelink to the thread that addresses the issue: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...mp;#entry280086
  9. My phone does not echo, there has been some discussion on this forum about what causes this and how to eliminate it. If you search for it you will find things that will compensate for it. It's either that or BT on iPhone is not good. Also, I am sure the dealership can help at no cost. Ever since I got this I do not use my in-ear unit.
  10. From the owner's manual, page 308... ResetOilWarning.bmp
  11. I had two Hondas before this one, loved them both. I still love this one more! And, today in Arizona it is 89 degrees, no wind noise problem. How hot does it get up in the great white north? Sounds like a typical case of the grass is always greener and remorse issue. I think even Honda and Toyota may disappoint you now, so Scion, I hear those may go for half the price... Just get the Acura, there's good financing deals going on right now! Let us know how that goes.
  12. It should. If the shade is up and you put it in reverse, the shade goes down. When you put it in drive and start moving forward it will go back up. Unless there is a personal setting that can be made by the dealer, that is the behavior. Now, if you are already in reverse, and then put the shade up, it will stay up unless you switch gears and put it back into reverse.
  13. The "Auto" feature to allow outside air in or not, as it was explained to me, is to only allow "clean" air into the cabin. If the air quality all of a sudden is bad because of exhaust or what have you, it switches to recycle mode. But when the air is clean it will default to outside air. There are filters and sensors for this built into your ES.
  14. Sorry for my assumptions, it did bring a smile to my face on the humor you brought to it. I am a little embarased... The HL is great though, but the LS is nicer, sounds like a good one at the dealership. But, I know how attached we get to those things we love. Might have to live with the 4Run!
  15. Get her a Highlander Limited or an RX. Generally, women prefer SUVs for some reason, and the HL Limited is hardly a step down from the 350 for about the same $, and the 08-09s are quite an improvement from the older ones. My wife loves hers! Or as DC says, get an LS!!!
  16. ASL is the system that adjusts the loudness of the sound according to the loudness increase in the cabin from things like engine and road noise when you are in motion. This should not affect the quality of your sound.
  17. Please read the piston slap thread. The engine needs to expand to regular operating levels, until that happens the engine is in warm up mode, making the sound known as piston slap. The quality of the car has nothing to do with it. This is the same engine they put in Camry's, Highlanders, RXs, IS350s, and any other Toyota or Lexus branded vehicle that comes with the 3.5 engine. They all do the same thing. Any engine is prone to this, especially with the new materials being used for the different components of an engine. It is a great engine!
  18. Are you trying to listen to a movie? If not, turn off the surround sound which is on by default. I believe you will hear a big improvement!
  19. Maybe the dealer is doing something, or not undoing something when the cars get delivered. There used to be complaints when the ES350 first came out about wind noise, but had it continued we would have heard a whole lot more about it. Also, I drive an ES350, and it is soooo quiet on the highway, I love it! Get it checked out, maybe at a different dealership.
  20. Here's a list of voice commands. Some work better than others, for instance, if you say "warmer," it almost never works for me. But, if you say, "78 degrees," it always works. You can say "dial by number," and it will prompt you to say the numbers and understands them very well, so it will always work. It also gets, "Nearest gas station," or "gas station," very well. So, follow this link to see all the commands you can use and try them out. http://www.grlt.com/knowledge-base-article...6-20-78-27.html
  21. So why do you need to get to the fuse to change the version of the software?
  22. RJT- Can you explain number 3? More tricks on ES350... 1) With the keyless remote, if you hold the unlock button for a while, all the doors unlock, the windows will go down and the moon roof will open. Keep the button pressed and everything opens all the way. The opposite, the lock button, does not close it all up. 2) There is a button in the passenger glove compartment that disables/enables the opening of the trunk. If your trunk does not open, check that.
  23. The one from VAIS will play videos that are stored in video iPODs. If that's what you are looking for, it should do the trick... I do not know about the other two.
  24. Good choice, that's what mine is!
  25. I had someone in a school parking lot not pay attention that I was stopped, there were even speed bumps there, ran into me from behind. The options were to have the cover repaired or replaced. The Lexus certified body shop assured me everything would be to my liking! I opted for the replacement. As you are now, I was concerned about the paint matching. I wrote here in the forum and asked opinions of people in the forum. They told me that the PPG paint is considered better than the factory paint and that the matching would be perfect to my car. Well, they did just as promised. The first time I inspected my car there were streaks in a small area, I pointed it out to them. The assembly was not exact, I pointed it out to them, it is now perfect. I had to let go my issues with the car not being exactly what I picked up from the dealer that one Saturday morning when I bought it. Now it makes absolutely no difference. It is almost a year later now, and I still see no difference, I wash it and use the polishes as advised by people in this forum and protect all the paint. Really, what bothers me more are the chips from driving the Arizona highways. I'd have to "clear bra" the entire car, I even have a chip on the roof! I agree with Steve, a paint job will do a better job of matching the color, and since the paint on the car is still new, the wear will be practically the same. Just protect it as best you can. I have been to factories and know issues with that. For instance, in order to reduce VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) from being released into the air, they only paint silver cars one day of the week, they have the highest content of VOCs. So, has the paint been sitting in a barrel since the last time? Was there some left in there when they put in a new batch to fill? Who's is to say the paint is exactly the same from week to week to week? And, in the baking process, what if one car gets baked 1 minute more than the other one? There is no difference in cost in making the paint exactly the same from car to car. So, they do not care about that as much...
