  1. This February I bought a second hand Lexus RX350 model 2006 in Spain (the engine is the Toyota V6 Avalon)with 85.000 kms (52.000 miles). From the first month of use I appreciate a persistent leak of engine oil (not very important in quantity) under the right front side of the car. These leakeage could be more easily appreciate when the car was place in my garage for a couple of days without moving it. The car in all other aspects is fantastic. For this reason, I went to my next Lexus dealer in Madrid, where they said me that a recall for an special oil pipeline has been promoted by Lexus int. because a problem with this tube made in part of metal and plastic. The mechanic informs to me that the tube is OK, but was changed anyway. Despite this first reparation, the oil leakeage persists. From them, I went in four occasions to Lexus for this reason, without resolving the problem. I include several pictures of the leak. I would like to know if any of you have the same problem and how was it resolved.

There is an all metal hose . Ask for it or you wont get it.

  2. Is there any way to disable the seatbelt chime on the 2008 RX 350? I'd like to be able to drive out of my garage (3 floors up) without it going off. Thanks

    1) Turn the car ON but do not start the engine, keep foot off brake. Cycle your trip reset button until it reads ODO. Turn ignition back OFF and wait a few seconds.

    2) Make sure seatbelt is not fastened.

3)Turn the ignition back ON, but do not start the car, keep foot off brake. As soon as you see everything light up, press and hold the trip reset button and do a long 12 second count.

4)Keep your finger on the trip reset button! Fasten your seat belt. As soon as you fasten your seat belt you should see the ODO display go from XXXX miles to "b-on". At that time take your finger off of the trip reset button and press it again. It should cycle to "b-off". Turn off ignition and you are done.

  3. I picked up on this topic on another subject in the forum. I would be curious to hear from others on their experience of susbstaining damage to their vehicles at the dealership. I had my roof rack damaged when I took it in to get the cross bars repaired. They somehow became jammed. When I got my RX back the end caps were broken, but it was put back in a way as to hide the damage.

My wheels were scratched all the heck and back when I had a flat repaired. I got the repairs made properly but with no compensation for my time which I consider valuable.

I know I am not alone on this one. Experiences anyone?

  4. When my Nav system gives me guidance (e.g. announce a turn), the radio (or satellite) audio continues during the guidance announcement.

Wonder if there is a setting I missed which would 'mute' all audio functions during guidance announcements?

    Thanks,

NO mute, but you can increase the the volume on guidance announments. I have mine set on 3 and its plenty loud.

Can you describe how the volume is adjusted for the nav announcements? Is it in the audio menu, or another setting screen?

    Thanks..

Push the "MENU" button , then select "VOLUME" on your screen. "ADAPTIVE VOLUME CONTROL" should appear, then select the setting you desire.

  5. How difficult is it to install the Nav DVD update? My dealer is charging $200 for the DVD and $150 for the installation labor. I've heard it takes only 5-10 minutes to install.

Any comments on the installation process would be appreciated.

    1) Remove rear tool tray( NAV DVD player is underneath)

    a)fold down rear seats

b)find velcro tabs on each side of rear tray cover where it meets back seats

    c)lift velcro tabs

d)slide fingers gently along edge where rear cover meets rear seats to release 5 plastic push pins.

e)Use 12mm socket to remove the 2 now visible hinge bolts

    f)remove tool tray cover

    g) remove tool tray, There are 2 black push pin on both sides that pry up easily. NAV DVD player should now be visible on passenger side

    2) Put ignition in ACC position

    3) If there is a dust cover on unit remove it. Mine did not have this. Some do.

    4) There should be a "slide type button" on your left of the unit. Slide this button to your left(facing unit). DVD should eject

    5) Insert new DVD

    6) Slide button back to original position

    7) allow NAV to update before turning off ignition( check NAV Screen)

    8) Reassemble in reverse order.

Hope this helps. I just replaced mine in a 2008 RX. It may sound like a lot , but I was finished in 15 minutes.

Tip: If you are uncomfortable with DIYs, take your time and think it through.

  6. I'm not sure which version nav disc is in mine (mine was made in later 07, so i assume whatever was out then). I was planning on upgrading it now, but a new one will be coming out by the end of the year. and here in RI there have been a few dramatic changes to the highways (I95) and this disc isn't aware of them. It always tells me to go one way, but the road moved!

I'm hoping the next disc will have more updates as this new highway location is a biggie...

You can details on the most recent updates here.

  7. Topic pretty much says it. Can someone tell me where I would go to eject/replace the Navigation DVD?

I want to determine what version I have, and what is the latest that I can install.I read a post that indicated it was in the back, but I can't locate it. I have raised the storage doors in the back too and don't see anything.

I have some reading to do to find out about what version I can go to, and how to do it, but I figured the first step is determining what I have and where it's at.

    Thanks

I just replaced the DVD in my '08 with the 9.1 version. To determine which version you are using now, push the "Menu" button then touch "map DVD" in the upper right hand corner. The DVD is in the trunk space under the tool tray which has to be removed to get to it.

  9. How about racing fuel? I have found 100 octane and was curious about using it. It is called racing fuel at the stations where I have seen it.

I believe the way it reads is '91 octane or higher', so I can't see why 100 octane wouldn't be fine. But I don't know if you'd be getting any better performance out of the more expensive fuel..

I am almost empty so I'm going to try a couple of gallons. If things don't sound good I will fill up with 93 octane to dilute the 100. Let you know how thing go.

  10. The cross bars on the roof top carrier on my 08 RX are giving me trouble. The mechanism that releases the lock or catch that holds them in place so you can adjust the position doesn't seem to move as easily as when I first got it. I fear breaking it if I force it. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there an easy fix? Sometimes I can not get them to move at all.

  11. As for "fussy" customers..You are flagged now for all Lexus and Toyota dealers and they add an extra 10-15% onto all future work and parts to make up for any lost items they have to conceed to you...in the mean time you think you are getting one over on them.

    This is absolutely untrue.

I don't think its unreasonable to expect that when my $45,000 vehicle goes into Lexus service at $120 an hour that it be returned to me undamaged. It is very easy to scratch wheels severely when mounting and dismounting tires if the person is not careful. Sounds like the dealer screwed up and are stepping up to replace his wheel which is great. The OP didn't have any issues with the dealer, he just asked if the wheels were more easily damaged than traditionally finished wheels. The answer is no, but they're harder to spot repair.

I have had Lexus vehicles serviced at Lexus dealers for 10 years and for the most part I have always been very well taken care of. I do demand EXCELLENT service for the premium I am paying, and my dealership now has never let me down. They have damaged my car before, once and they were more than ready to pay for me to have the bumper repainted. I fixed it myself and it wasn't neccisary but I got no argument.

They make SO much money off a good customer, replacing one wheel or repainting a bumper when they screw up is more than worth it to them to keep your business.

And as to your last post, you need to chill out and treat your fellow members with respect, the OP didn't do or say anything that is deserving of your attack. If you can't keep your attitude in check, then there's the door.

Thanks for the response and the info. As for our rude friend, have you ever heard of trolls? It seems some folks just like to go on forums and cause havoc. Some forums try to remove these folks, but I understand it is a non ending venture.

  12. I recently had some tire repair done at my local Lexus Dealer.(picked up a nail). In the process of removing the tire my rim was severly scratched. Now the dealer has ordered me a new one, which is good, but is this something that is going to happen whenever I need to have the tire removed from the rim? Does anyone else have experience in this regard? Are these rims more susceptible to damage when removing the tire or putting on a new one?
