  1. and so it is. missed the first time through. thank you
  2. have 2006 GS300 with nav running data version 5.1. How do i know what Gen of nav system i have?
  3. best option is to burn a hybrid dvd yourself (or have a friend do it) that has the 6.1 maps but uses the 5.1 load file which allows the override. follow this link and you can download the 5.1 load file you need. you'll of course need to take the map files from the dvd you have and create the hybrid. http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/showthread.php?t=173730
  4. only thing i know about. it's mentioned in other threads too but just in case it helps http://vaistech.com/home.html another possibility http://www.diceelectronics.com/ipod_integration.htm

  6. you haven't made any mistakes. the navigation override doesn't work. just the dvd and the on screen phone works. for navigation inputs, you have to disable it manually. check up earlier in posts. i put up a video of how to do it. its a few buttons u push on ur screen that lets you bypass the navi lock. heres the link to the video... http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...ost&id=3320 hope this helps I have a 07 GS350. I have tried what your showing in your video above but it doesn't work. Does anyone know how to do it on an 07 GS350? Thanks. Rick nav override depends on what version of the nav dvd you have. several how to's in this thread on how to burn your own dvd version. override works on v 5.1 but not on 6.1. there was some misinformation at the beginning of the thread that implied that the wire cut override would address the nav safety features too. it doesn't. if you have nav dvd 6.1 you need to burn a combo dvd that has the 6.1 maps but the 5.1 load file which allows the override. several links to explore. here's one http://toyotanation.com/forum/showthread.php?t=173730
  7. Thanks for the quick reply. Was it a national outfit that did your install or a local one? Did you use the VAIS unit? Were they able to use the shark fin antenna, or did they install a windshield unit? The reason I ask is that I spoke with my Lexus dealership today and they said they'll install XM and it will be seamlessly integrated into the system. I know they offer XM as an option when you purchase, but I'm interested in Sirius programming (specifically NFL programming) which XM now doesn't offer. The service manager said they "tried Sirius but didn't get the reception and service" that they receive from XM. I don't know if this is just the corporate party line, but I suspect it is. How have you found the Sirius "service and reception"? Any complaints other than fewer available presets? I have dealer installed sirius in 06 GS300. at that time, lexus offered a choice between that and xm and i chose sirius for the same programming reason. I have been very frustrated with the lexus reception and have taken it to the dealer several times trying to address it. happened across another customer in the lobby who was there for the same reason so i actually think the dealer is giving you real information in this case. In fact, the dealer installed unit (they finally replaced the receiver and antennae just to satisfy me that there wasn't a defect) gets spotier reception than the little magnet antennae/after market device we have in our 2nd car. for the most part reception is fine on open roads tho it does drop on occasion. it's much spotier on secondary roads where there are more trees nearby etc. (understandable but the $99 Best Buy portable gets better reception on those same roads.) All that said, there are a number of satellite boards that aren't lexus specific that have a lot of chatter about xm signal being more reliable in general. I figure the VAIS unit can't be any worse if you're considering the switch. The ipod interface alone would be an upgrade for me even if sirius is no better tho as others have posted, sat3 preset is used by ipod so you have 6 fewer sat presets.
  8. Yes, but at least BMW's have iPod integration...and no useless cassette... ipod integration kit - $400 . or use the cassette to integrate it for $30. replacing cheap uninspired BMW dashboard - about 10x that and having a luxury car with a dash feature closer to an 8track than mp3, priceless.
  9. oh, dont get me wrong. I am not saying I prefer the BMW dash. My point is merely it makes no sense in 2007 for the world's most technologically advanced hybrid to have a cassette in lieu of mp3/ipod connectivity. I am on my way now to test drive the GS 450h. yeah, being responsive to the laggard niche that wants to use a cassette interface rather than having a oem auxillary jack is definitely leading edge thinking.
  10. Unreliable when there is any kind of cabin noise even the climate control fan. My opinion is that Lexus is going to start losing buyers if they don't do something about the silly in motion restrictions on nav, audio displays and lack of mp3 hookup via auxillary. freakin cassette player instead?
  11. If it sounds like the rattle is in the dash or near the windshield, have them check, reapply the noise shield under the hood. Had something similar with my GS and that was it. talking about the plastic engine cover under the hood. the attachment in the back corner near the driver seat was loose. just attached with small plastic clips and it was vibrating at certain times
  12. If equipped with DVD capability, the car has to be in park with the parking break on to play a dvd.
