  1. Took it to the new one in Durham. I am wondering now if I was raped by that price...
  2. Ok, so after taking the car to two mechanics that told me they couldn't figure it out, I took the car to the dealer (blah). They called me today and said I have a broken motor mount and suggested i change the other motor mount and tranny mount at the same time. Cost = $850. At least it's not an engine problem...
  3. ok, here goes. for a while now, i have noticed my 98 ls400 running rough, particularly on cold mornings. it felt like the car was running on 7 cylinders. it used to always go away once the car warmed up, but now sometimes it doesnt. i was told to start with a tuneup and here is what i did. changed air filter, spark plugs, fuel filter, pcv i also cleaned the throttle body. now, not only has my problem NOT been solved..but i am idling all over the place... started cold, the engine may idle at 1300 rpm!!!! any suggestions for both problems???
  4. I need some help here guys. ive done a search and nothing seems similar to my problem. Every once in a while, when I start my 1998 LS400 w/146K, the engine will vibrate quite bad and will last for several minutes on the road..usually smoothing out. My BEST guess (from what it feels/sounds like) is that the engine is running on an odd number of cylinders .... what would cause this????
  5. no humming noise. feel it all over, but primarily in the steering wheel. don't notice the mirror vibrating. does not seem to increase with hitting the brakes. have not used the hunter machine, i guess that would be next choice....or should i replace my front rotors, i know they are a bit warped. the key symptom, i would say, is that the vibrations seem to go in and out, in and out, in and out...in succession its a 1998 w/ 145K on it Tell me a little bit more about the symptoms and characteristics of the vibration..... Is it accompanied with a low humming noise? Do you feel it in the seat, or steering wheel, or all over in general? Does your rear view mirror vibrate quickly as well? Does it increase when you hit the brakes at that speed? Have you had the wheels balanced on the hunter machines? Pertaining to the hunter system. I believe all the Just Tires stores have these units. YOU WANT THIS SYSTEM. It doesn't cost anymore than a normal balancing job, but the equipment used is far superior than anything else on the market. www.gsp9700.com will show you who in your area has the machine. Most likely, it's probably just a tire out of balance. Or you have a warped brake rotor that needs to be turned. What year is your car and how many miles are on it? What have you serviced on the car, suspension related? I'm asking because the rear carrier bushings are usually one of the 1st to go, and they can cause this as well.
  6. NC: I just ran across this thread, too bad i just moved from raleigh to charlotte, bc i feel i need to take mine to johnson. my car vibrates funny, mostly around 75- 80 mph... and it seems to go in cycles, like a sin wave. does this sound like your problem? who should i contact at lexus? thanks
  7. i have an amp from my 98 ls400 with nakamichi, have no idea if it will work for you, but it is in perfect working order if you are interested. email me.... jbpitt REMOVE @gmail.com brad
  8. I just called my local lexus dealer and was quoted $132 for a handle with the factory matched paint. not bad, ive already got one on order....
  9. 1UZ-FE did you fix your handle problem? mine has the exact same crack, albeit in a 1998. let me know how you fixed it. btw...im from raleigh too...small world
  10. mikee72 --- i have the pics, but can't figure out how to post them on this forum (new here), when i try and add an image, it asks for a url to the pic, but doesn't give the option of grabbing them off of my local machine...if you can help me figure this out..i will post them!
  11. i haven't read all of the posts here, but i think that i have the perfect solution to the sub replacement problem. i have just finished building a box that i have fitted up under the rear deck, where my stock sub was, and i have fitted a JL 8W7 in exactly the same position as the stock sub. the box i made came out to be around .9 cubic feet, and is perfect for the W7. this sub is unbelievable, both for sound quality and output. i am using a JL 500/5 amp that is powering JL's 650 CSi's in the front, infinity kappa coax's in the back, and the 8W7. i have pictures of the entire process if anyone is interested, but i must forewarn you....THIS IS A TIME CONSUMING PROJECT!!!
  12. i've heard many different things regarding what nakamichi stereo's in lexus' include...i've heard 8 inch sub, 10 inch sub, 2 ohm, 1 ohm, 4 ohm.... does anyone know which system comes with what? reason asking, i was checking out my system the other day (i just bought a 98 LS with NAK) and the sub is an 8 inch 6 ohm sub...nothing like what ive heard it should have.... sounds wierd to me, anyone else have this sub>?
