dannycwu, did you ever finish with that Pioneer sub?? I'm looking at that sub pretty seriously. How do you feel it sounds? Do you feel it needs an additional amp; and if so, what type of crossover would you recommend?? If anyone else has tried this sub, please respond. Thanks. MJ

In my continuing attempt to try and figure out how to make my factory SC Nakamichi stereo sound better, I bought a 220 watt amp over the weekend. I hooked this up to the factory sub in the back deck of my SC. I opted to try this because every amplified sub and bass tube I've found is too large to fit beneith the rear deck and also behind the removable trunk panel. This amp had a fixed 80hz crossover built in. This helped the volume of bass in the car, but I still have the same problem that I've had before of the bass sounding high, like its 60-70hz. I'm use to low bass around 50hz or below. In addition to this, I also replaced my rear deck speakers with 6.5" 3-way pioneers rated down to 25hz. I had these installed in a past Acura, and they sounded awsome; in my SC though they don't. It sounds like there's a low pass filter going to the back speakers; these new speakers have absolutely no lows at all. Does anyone know if the factory Nak amp or deck has these high or low filters/crossovers built in?? Can I just replace the amp with another that has no high filters for the door and deck speakers and a built in low crossover at <50hz for the sub? Please, if anyone knows where I can get this type of information on the Nak amp or deck, please reply. I'm spending way too much time trying to figure this out oon my own and getting no where!! I have the Yokohama EVS ES100s. You can go to Tirerack and look these tires up for the tread pattern and also ratings compared to other tires. On this web site also, you can see the price comparisons. The Yokohama were actually priced less than many others I was looking at. When I bought my SC a month ago, it already needed new tire, so I didn't push the car that hard (not that I do now either, actually I baby it), but after I put these tires on I did take it around some pretty windy roads and faster speeds than I had and was happy with the performance. I think I may put a little more air in the tires to see if that even makes it better. At Discount Tire, they put in the standard 35 psi; the max is 44, so I may up it to around 40. It did rain the other day and I took it out on this same road, not quite as fast as before though just to be safe, but I thought it performed well then also. The tires I got have the rim guard to protect the wheels. This "lip" also extends the tire sidewall width at the base next to the rim which helps the tires to not look like their "buldging out". I test fitted another tire of the same size without this rim guard and it did look a little fat, these that I put on though look outstanding. They really look like the correct sized tires that were suppose to be on this car! B)

The factory tires for a SC400 are 225/55-16s. Most every sports car fanatic can testify that the wider the better when it comes to tires (within reason of course). So I decided to try some wider tires on the factory rims. I went to a tire comparison chart and figured that some 245/50-16s would be almost an inch widerwhile keeping the exact same height as the stock tires. Well, I did it! I put 245/50-16s all around and it looks AWESOME! :P (Yokohama ES100s) I prefer the factory "look" to my SC, but with these wider profile tires the car has a much better stance and looks a little more aggressive and gives it a more high performance look (more than it did before!) I was extremely happy with the outcome, so I thought I'd share it with everyone. Later.

Does anyone know where I can get the specifications on the factory Nakamichi deck/amp for an SC400? I'm interested in the wattage to each speaker/subwoofer, if there's a crossover to the sub and for what frequency, and so on. If anyone knows this information or a site where I can check it out I'd be much obliged. :D Thanks.

In response to bean_8044, I'm looking for both better quality and more volume. With the stock woofer, I have to turn the treble and midrange down and crank the volume up in order to get any bass out of the system. This obviously doesn't sound very good. When I do this the system lacks the clarity with the treble & mid turned down, and the bass that the free-air sub puts out is a very high frequency bass, like 60-70 hz I'm guessing. What I'm looking for is low bass that can fill the car without jeopardizing the highs and mids. I'd also like it to have a little punch to it also. I'm not looking for a competition system mind you, I just want it to sound excellent for the people inside the car. For southernsc300, what are your referring to by sq and spl? I'm not familiar with these abbreviations. Thanks.

I think I've read about every subwoofer thread on this web site. It seems that the concensus is that the free-air subwoofers (factory or aftermarket) do not work near as well as a sealed or ported box type. I believe all users prefer this second type when at all possible. Either way one would go, an additional amplifier is also recommended because the factory amp just isn't enough to push the additional bass that everyone desires. I belive most everyone would agree with what I have paraphrased above from the 50-100 posts I've read concerning this matter. My new topic or question is, with everything that has been stated from all threads concerning replacing a factory free-air sub, doesn't it make sense to go with a pre-amplified subwoofer or bass tube? It satisfies the free air/ported subwoofer problem, is solves the additional amplifier problem, it's variable with both volume and frequency, it can be installed easily to the factory wiring, and it keeps everything 'looking' stock. I'm not saying this as fact. This is still a quesition to everyone. I am looking to replace my factory SC400 10" sub and this is the conclusion I've come to based on reviewing everything I could get my hands on. Please, everone, respond if you agree or disagree with this conclusion. Or does anyone feel there's something better than what I'm proposing? Thank you for all inputs.

I previously had a 6" or 8" bazooka (I can't remember which) in an Accord EX. It was installed in the trunk and I had it in there for about 9 years. I thought it had a great sound and great value. It was amplified, so I could adjust the volume and freqency to get it to sound exactly the way I wanted it. So I'd say thumbs up to the bazooka!

I appreciate everyone's input thus far, however, I would still like to know if there is anyone out there who has personally tried this item on any vehicle. I understand each of the stated opinions so far, but I've heard the oposite opinions from others as well that the theory behind the Tornado makes sense (not to say one or the other opinion is right.) I know that this item has a 30 day like it or return it money back guarantee, and I would try it myself, but the closest "As seen on TV" store is an hour and a half away from me. Normally I would'nt care so much about an item such as this, but if it could actually do what it boasts and increase your gas milage, in short order it could pay for itself, not to mention any additional horse power (that is of course if it actually works.) Yes, there is the 12 disc CD changer in the trunk. I don't think anything was ever replaced; I believe the entire car is still factory; I bought it from the original owner. All speakers seem to be working, but how would I know if something isn't working to factory specs, such as an amp? Can an amp be working, but not 100%? If this helps: The mids and highs seems to be somewhat okay (I suppose, but still not impressed). I have the bass knob on the console cranked to high to get any bass out of the system, however, what I get is bass that sounds like low midrange, around 80 hts maybe? And not only is the bass not really what I'd call bass but low mid, the bass insn't overwhelming in the least. I would assume that with an amplified 10" sub and the bass know cranked to high, I'd have to turn the bass down because there'd be so much, but that isn't the case. Thoughts?

Has anyone tried the "As seen on TV" Tornado? It's a metal turbine or fan blade that you install into your intake to create a tornado effect for more efficient air flow. You're suppose to get better gas milage and possibly a little more horse power. I think they're like 60 bucks. If anyone has ever tried one of these or knew anyone who tried one, please let me know. After I bought my '92 SC400, I was excited to think of listening to the Nakamichi stereo with the upgraded 10" Subwoofer. When I first put in some of my favorite CDs, I was very diapointed to say the least. My previous '94 Accord's stock stereo seemed to sound just as good. Are all SC Nakamichi systems this mediocre? Are they suppose to sound far better than the average stock car stereo? Or might there just be something wrong with mine? Anyone who owns or has heard a SC Nakamichi system, please respond. I'm not sure what to do. Thanks.
