  1. I seem to forget from winter to winter (I live in the Chicago Area) how bad the cold weather mileage is on my 400h. It's not all that great in the summer (about 26 highway), but winter seems low for both city anf highway. Yesterday, I drove to Springfield, IL round trip. Temp was about 28 degrees. Road dry heading down there at 67 mph. Had a retired State Trooper with me who suggested I "take it easy - we're not in a hurry." Aside - Cruise control set at 70, but the actual speed is 3 mph less. Lexus will not fix it. Told me +/- 3mph is within specs. At 67 mph the 175 mile trip indicated 22.2 mpg. The return trip in blowing snow and other assorted crud on the road at about 60 mph indicated 23.2 mpg. Local trips have been about 19 mpg. Car handled great with both dry and wet road conditions - no complaints at all. Anyone in a cold climate have better, similar or even lower averages? Stu
  2. Just returned home from a short round trip and a stop at the Supermarket. My wife went in while I attemped to enter an address into the GPS. She was in the store about 15 minutes during which I had the motor and lights off. She came out, I powered everything up and drove home (about a mile). Then sat in the car for another 20 minutes powered down except for the GPS and continued my quest as to why it would not accept "County Highway H" or any variations of same. I figured it out finally (CR-H) and was about to power down when the GPS began to flicker and went black. Dash lights were ok, as were interior lights and radio, but the car wouldn't go to"Ready." I took out the key, waited about 2 minutes and it started normally with the GPS display fully operational. Could I have killed the battery messing with the GPS for 35 minutes with engine off?? Thoughts appreciated. Stu
  3. I have had my CPO 06 400h just shy of three years. No problems yet. I recently went to the dealership and asked about an extended warranty. The finance guy said I was offered a chance to buy one when I signed the purchase order and that and that was that - so sorry!! Have any of you purchased "after market" extended warranties and if so from whom? Also, I have some type of rock hard mastic on my driver's door. Seems like it was whipped off the tire. Bug and tar stuff does nothing. What can I use to get it off without messing up the clear coat? Thanks Stu
  4. Anyone with White (or any color)"06" 400h having a problem with paint chips - many/small - in the area under the grill left to right? Bad paint maybe? Just more visable than darker color paint? Any suggestions before it's off to the dealer? I have 41k city and highway miles, no gravel roads or off roading. Thanks! Stu
  5. Just returned from a 420 mile same day round trip between Chicago and Springfield, IL. Light winds, flat terrain, new Bridgestone Alenzas. Usual MPG 22 in the winter and about 26 in the summer. Cruise Control on most of the time. Drove at 67mph. MPG stable. At 70mph the MPG started creeping down. A perfect test bed. The EPA tests were based on highway driving below 60mph. Year:2006 Make:400h MPG:36000 Location:Chicago to Springfield RT Current Temp: 50 % City Driving:1% % Highway Driving:99% Average MPH:25 Gas Type:93 AWD/FWD:AWD
  6. Rillo: Found the menu - thanks. Was able to adjust the send/receive sound as you described. However there was another box (same screen) that has a "5" in it which can be changed using a touch key pad. It's off to the right of the send/receive arrows. What function or sound level is controlled by the number in the box? There is a "set" button below the screen key pad which locks in the number in that box. Any clues?? Thanks again!1 Stu I'm also curious to know what this is? Anybody ever figure out what the extra box with the 5 in it is?
  7. Just replaced my Goodyear factory tires (got 35K out of them) with the Bridgestone Alenzas (235/55/18). Had them in play for the last two months in what has been Chicago's 9th worst winter. Lots of snow and ice. Observations - on dry pavement performance/handling equal to or slightly better than the OE Goodyear Tires. Mileage about the same - maybe slightly better. However, when on wet pavement the tires stick like glue. In snow up to 10" the RX400h didn't even hesitate - just went right on through. Got out of my driveway after the plows put more snow on it that the weather without a loss of traction. Braking and acceleration were as close to normal as you could reasonably expect in snow. On ice - I actually had some traction. In a word - terrific. No regrets. No complaints on the the RX400h AWD system either - winter or summer. We rent a house in Michigan in the summer with a driveway made of semi loose asphalt that has at least a 45 degree slope - maybe more. It requires a 90 degree left turn about a third of the way up so you have to slow down. Every year it's a crap shoot whether the rental car will make it to the top at least once so we can unload and again to pack up. Last summer, the 400h, even with the OE Goodyears made it up without even a strain. This year with the Alenzas, it should be even easier.
  8. While traveling at about 40mph on a local road, I opened the passenger side rear window by mistake. The result was a pressure change in the cabin that caused a rapid thumping noise/sensation that was actually painful in my wife's and my ears. It was similar in some ways to pressure changes while flying in a light aircraft. I thought it might be a seat belt being whipped around by the wind stream, but nothing in the back was moving. With both rear windows down, it got worse. I've experienced wind noise from rear windows, but never anything like this. In my opinoin, and that of my wife, the RX400h is undriveable with the rear windows down. Lucky we never have them down. It rides like a dream all closed up, smooth and quiet. Front windows cause no problem. Anybody else have a similar experience with the airflow over the car. Stu

  10. Is there any way to change the very bass tone of the speaker to a higher treble value so the blue tooth voice quality is better and easier to understand? Thanks Stu
