  1. I got this from Edmunds.com: Trade-In Private Party Dealer Retail Total $14,311 $16,664 $19,347 This forum and a clublexus forum is the only place i've advertised this until this morning. Since this morning, I currently have 3 people interested at $14,500...so interest seems to be there. I understand $19k is not realistic...same with $16k (thanks to this forum)...for $10k I would definitely just keep the car I guess I have faith that people will notice that this car is above average in condition when compared to most 01's, therefore it shouldnt be lumped in with a "another ls430 for sale". I've seen a LOT of ragged out 430's... As for the wheels, they look so much like the stock wheels available on the ls430 with the "sport wheels"...no one thinks they are aftermarket (yes, us car people can tell what is stock and what isnt). Plus, the stock wheels come with it. Also, you show me ANYONE who would rather have the old orange tail lights over the LED tail lights!!! I understand people do not want a heavily modified car, but no one would turn down the tail lights. This is not a collector car so I wouldnt expect authenticity to be that much of an issue. As I type this, I just got another email from someone interested in the car and I've already shown it to 1 person who cant believe this car is a 2001. Thanks for your input guys, but I'll keep it here for now and "see what I get for it"...MAYBE lower it a little if price becomes an issue...maybe just keep it...or give it to my mother so she can trade it towards a Genesis 4.6...that's the beauty of my situation...i dont HAVE to sell it at all :) danxp, sounds like a nice lexus at a good price..especially still under warranty...some people dont have an extra $7k for an 05...better car of course, but thats half again what i'm asking for my 01...its all in what you are in the market for...btw we have a 05 ls430 and a ls460...i like the seat cooling option, rear sun shade, parking sensors, and backup camera not found on my 2001 :P great car!
  2. thanks for the info smokingrezel...looks like you got a good deal :) ...i'll keep it at ~$14 for now...i dont want to go too low because I know all the lower priced cars are not in as good shape and do not have all the new/recent things as mine...its in buy and drive shape, absolutely nothing to do on mine
  3. price adjusted, thanks SW the more I think about selling it, the more I just want to keep it HAHA even if i dont drive it much...such a nice car
  4. ok...thanks :) The numbers I got were $14k trade-in value, $17 private party, and $19k retail....I think those numbers were from about a month ago from Edmunds.com, so maybe things have gone down that far since....anywayz, thanks for the explanation...i certainly dont want people to think i'm trying to cheat them....i'll probably just say ~$14k...or just keep the car :)
  5. all the ones I see on Autotrader.com are $17k+ and the ones in the $15-$16k range have high miles (~100k+)? am I missing something? I am looking at private sellers only and they are all $17k+ for the car/mileage like mine...or is this just "bad timing" because of the economy? That being said, I'd probably take $15k for it to skip all the back and forth...Anything less and I'm just better off keeping it as a spare car haha :) You cant buy another car like this for $15k thats for sure! btw, NADA and Edmunds were around $17k as well thanks
  6. thanks for the input guys...i do not sell cars so i'm not up to date on the how-to's i will drop the price accordingly after some comparisons... and yes it is in great shape :) i'm hoping that will be a plus...if anyone is looking for one of these, see's most of the others out there, then see's this one...they will definitely see a huge difference thanks again, doug
  7. yeah the LED tails really make it look much newer...the old dull orange bar on the stock tails date the car pretty bad i have a comparison step-by-step of the install to the new ones, as well as side by side with a 2005 here: http://www.finddoug.com/cars/01lexus/cleartails/index.html you can check out my other cars by the menu on the left of the page :)
  8. thanks for the kind words...i keep all my vehicles showroom....btw, everything I've done to it was for me, not just to sell :) thats why I have LED tails, exhaust tips, wheels and GOOD tires.... of course I'll take less than asking, but who ever pays asking price? and if i put a low price on it, someone will offer me less than that haha..gotta play the game :/
  9. yeah, i know what you mean...the car is perfect inside and out and i hate to sell...i just keep having to make myself cycle between 3 vehicles and its getting old haha
  10. i knew it wasnt UL but I never stated it was...i considered the UL a different model...i see now that it is just an optional package so I stand corrected...thanks as for the price...if you see this car, it is spotless and worth every penny...i didnt throw on cheap tires and "pretty it up" to try to sell it...everything is top notch quality...and i did say i would entertain offers ;) worse thing i can do is keep my nice ls430 haha i dont HAVE to sell it at all
  11. ---------- SOLD ----------- NO LONGER AVAILABLE! $14k ----------------------------- Ok...I love this car so much, but I recently got a Mercedes CL65 AMG V12 Twin Turbo and I'm having trouble juggling 3 cars (Benz, 4Runner, Lexus). So I've decided to sell the Lexus :( 72k miles, loaded, Navigation, Mark Levinson Audio, Kenwood Keg (25gb mp3s in the trunk), LED tails make it look brand new, recent tires (245/45 ZR18 - Potenza RE760...NOT cheap tires), brakes, belts, hoses (60k service), no door dings!...Anyone who knows me (and my family), knows that I keep all my automobiles in showroom condition. All maintenance is done on time. LS430's similar to this are selling for $19k/$20k+ on Autotrader.com and aren't in as good of condition (see for yourself)...I am asking $14,500 firm for a quick sale. Thanks to the forum for helping me determine a price. It has been in the family since new. I have the stock wheels if desired. This is not my last Lexus...great car all the way around! Lots of pics here: http://www.finddoug.com/lexus/ If you or anyone you know is looking for an excellent LS430, lemme know! msg me for any other info...thanks guys! btw, the Navigation in the Lexus is WAAAY ahead of the Benz nav (it really sux) Doug M -------------- 01 Lexus LS430 05 4Runner 4WD Sport 05 Mercedes CL65 AMG
  12. yep..steve2006 is correct...the license plate lights are easy to change...they are right under the inside trunk lid cover
  13. My passenger's side door speaker started buzzing today (and I leave for Florida in the morning). I wasnt about to drive to Fla with a buzzing speaker, but with no time to shop for a replacement, I just removed, siliconed the surround, and reinstalled the speaker. Sounds normal again and buys me time to shop for a better set. (they are 8 ohm speakers btw) thanks for the door panel removal pics
  14. definitely not oem...but good luck finding out the manufacturer, maybe someone will recognize them :)
  15. this issue has been beat to death in just about every car forum on the net *haha* here is my "web research" -------------------------------- the computer will pull back your timing (to a certain point) if knock is detected and lower grade gas will increase the possibility of knock...pulling back your timing definitely affects performance and acceleration from one site: "engine knock occurs when fuel in a combustion chamber ignites before it should...Octane, by definition, is the resistance to burn or detonation. The higher the rating, the slower the burn when ignited during the compression burn cycle of the piston. The higher octane allows for better control of burning for high compression engines. So we want to match the correct octane rating of the gasoline to the engine design to ensure complete burning of the gasoline by the engine for maximum fuel economy and clean emissions." sounds to me like cheaper gas might decrease fuel economy in the lexus since it was designed for premium as it nstructs us in the owners manual Exploding is bad, burning is good. If you are running too low of an octane for your motor, you will get pinging. Pinging in its extreme form is also known as detonation. The fuel/air mixture is igniting all at once and exploding instead of igniting as a flame wave. as for gunk buildup - the US EPA requires that all octane grades of all brands of gasoline contain engine cleaning detergent additives to protect against the build-up of harmful levels of engine deposits, I think I even read somewhere that higher octane actually burns hotter (not sure though) which may help prevent gunk buildup better than the additives alone I also agree that high hp tuned cars NEED higher octane...i would NEVER EVER put anything less than the highest octane I could find in my Supra...forced induction cars (turbos/superchargers) are especially susceptible to knock due to "cheap gas" because of the tremendous pressure over normally aspirated engines...I will use premium in high hp cars (which includes the lexus)...i want the least chance of engine knock and I dont want the computer to pull back my timing...i want all my power ;) but here's the kicker...all the websites pretty much end on the same note... "Check your owner’s manual to determine the right octane level for your car. Regular octane is recommended for most cars. However, some cars with high compression engines, like sports cars and certain luxury cars, need mid-grade or premium gasoline to prevent knock." and "Most cars are designed to burn regular unleaded fuels with an octane rating of 87. If the vehicle needs a higher octane rating of 89-93, there is documentation in the owner’s manual, as well as possibly under the fuel gauge and by the fuel fill hole. Usually you will see this rating for high performance engines only." well guess what folks??? we have a luxury car and our owners manual says use premium and I dont know the exact compression numbers on our engines, but I would consider it a high performance engine, i'm sure it benefits from the higher octane...in a pinch, i might try mid-grade, but then the savings arent much off using premium anyway... not trying to start an argument or some long debate...just going by what I'm finding :P
  16. I agree...I would check ebay to see what similar items are going for. What make/model/size are the wheels? post a pic if possible... A lot of people on here (including myself) are looking for wheels and might be interested :)
  17. wow thats nice :) brand spankin new LS460 131 mi 2005 4Runner Sport 4WD/AWD 28k mi 2005 LS430 ~14k mi 2001 LS430 ~53k mi
  18. thanks....yeah our 05 LS430 is pearl white and is really nice....but the LS460 in pearl white is amazing...*need to fight the urge to buy more Lexus'* two 430's and one 460 is ENOUGH!! (although I'd buy a IS or maybe GS if they offered the all-wheel-drive in the bigger engine models ;) )
  19. brand spankin new...self parking and other goodies :)
  20. ok...so I took my 01 LS430 to get its scheduled maintenance, and they gave me a loaner 07 ES...I was surprised by how smooth it drove and the power was very nice :) Although I did think the interior was rather plain (no nav or anything)...other than the rear wheel drive vs front wheel drive...why would anyone choose the lexus over a loaded avalon for a cheaper price? The "no key to unlock" and push button start spoiled me too. ANYWAY, so while I am there, I scout out a 07 LS460L for my grandparents (i got my 01 from them and they still have a 05 LS430). Stickered at $79,999 this white with tan leather LS460L (touring sport *bigger brakes/wheels*) made my mouth water. The magazine pics do NOT do it justice, you have to see this in person. He will purchase one within this next week and it makes my 430 seem so inferior *haha* In addition, I was driving on the interstate in Atlanta yesterday and I am still surprised by the acceleration from 30-80+ in my 01 LS430 as I would merge from the on-ramps...although its not like my ol Supra, it was still VERY fun and made me smile :)
