  1. can anyone tell me how to change the bulb on the heated seat switch? the backlight is out (the one that comes one with the headlights). i have the bulb, but i'm looking at the area an i'm not sure if i want to start jamming a screwdriver in there around all that plastic until i confirm what i'm doing. thanks! adam
  2. probably a little late for this post... yes, a plastic bag is the best idea. i could not in anyway get the filter out from the top. i tried forever. i ended up going down with it after removing the bottom engine cover. what a pain!
  3. i have all of my supplies, im still waiting on a day with less than 80% humidity. ohio weather sucks!
  4. i just took some very fine steel wool and NOXON metal polish and it cleaned right up. when from almost black to shinny stainless steel. looks great! i can't believe i didnt do this months ago.
  5. mine is an automatic and it is jerky from a stop. you have to be very careful on how you hit the gas pedal.
  6. 02 is300 what is the stock tailpipe made of? has a lot of black deposits on it. i wonder if it will clean up? anybody had luck doing this?
  7. why are drilled rotors considered noy so good? what about the rusting thing?
  8. thanks everyone for the info. flop170's car really helped with the visual (same color car)! i stopped in oreilly's the other day and picked up duplicolor red caliper paint and clearcoat. now i'm waiting on my decals and i'm all set. i'll post before/after pics when i get done.
  9. I want to replace my brake rotors but I have several questions. What is better, drilled or slotted or both (both looks cool)? I read in another post about drilling causing warpage? If you slot or drill a rotor, can it be turned later on? Is there a rotor that won't rust and look bad? I understand that when ordinary rotors are used they don't look rusted, but what about the slots on slotted rotors? I would think that the slots would rust and they would not get cleaned out by the pad? I'm basically doing this for looks. I like the look of a slotted/drilled rotor. I don't really NEED extra stopping power, though being able to stop fast is never a bad idea. Thanks for any input!!!
  10. that's the color combo i want to do. what product did you go with? did you do the rears too? i looked through the links that bartkat provided...very useful. a lot of good information there. but i'm stumped on whether to brush on, or spray. what brand to use. and what kind of clear coat? i'm also not sure if i want to do the rears. they have a goofy shape. thanks
  11. what do you guys think of painted calipers on an 02 is300? paint all four or just the front? is it hard to do? does the paint last? will it looks stupid? what color? my car is charcol (i dont know the official color name.) i was thinking of going with red. opinions welcome!
  12. ok. thanks! that makes sense. i will deffinately consider it. i've never had bf goodrich tires before. i'm sure both will be much better than the dunlop graspics i have now. can you do a 4 tire rotation with the g-force? the tred looks directional?
  13. thanks for the reply smooth1 when i compare the bf goodrich g-force sport to the goodyear eagle f1 a/s on tire rack side by side, the goodyear fairs better in almost every category. what does all season vs summer tire really mean anyway then? are these numbers on tirerack trust worthy?
  14. I need to relace the tires on my 02 is300. 215 45 17. after browsing around tirerack, i've settled on the goodyear eagle f1 all season. any positives or negative on this tire? i dont drive it a lot in the snow so i would want good dry and wet grip. i bought the car with dunlop graspics on it and now have a bubble that has appeared in the sidewall (second time). if anybody has any other suggestions, i'd like to hear it. i'm looking to spend less than 150 a tire. thanks for your help! adam
  15. my IS just starting making noise from the steering as well. it's driving me nuts! almost sounds like a slight grinding sound when you turn the wheel. sounds like its coming from just behind the steering wheel. only does it as certain points. when you're turning a corner for instance you will hear it. every time the bottom spoke hits 11 o clock you hear it. i want to rip it open and see what is causing it. but i'm a little aprehensive. any suggestions? -adam
  16. thanks for the input.
  17. i am needing to add a little bit of coolant to the overflow of my 02 is. and i noticed that it is red. i found on this forum that it is red because it is the toyota long life coolant. my question is this: is this the same as havoline dex cool? i called my local napa and the guy there said that it is compatible. do i want to use that? and can i mix it with what i already have (assuming i have the toyota stuff). if not i will get the coolant from a dealership, it's just that there isnt a toyota or lexus dealer very close by. thanks!! adam
  18. THANKS GUYS! glad to be here. Found Mobil 1 on sale for 17.78 for a 4qt so i went that route. im sure it's all the same...right? i'll be opening up a can of worms on that one! thanks again!
  19. i recently bought an '02 is300 and i absolutely love it. this seams like a great place to get advice so i thought i would ask a few questions. is there a way to turn off the blinking seat belt light on the dash (when you're not wearing it)? cruise control - when you decrease your speed to below 25 MPH the cruise will not resume to the original speed. anything i can do about that? and i've read my manual up and down and i cannot find the recommended oil change interval. can anyone tell me the recommended interval using a synthetic oil? thanks in advance. im sure i will lots of useful information here in the future. adam
