  1. Two totally different cars. The LX is much better in every way, but also more expensive to purchase and operate (it eats more gas, repairs and maintenance cost more, etc)

I am on my 2nd LX (mine is a 2017 LX-570) and would not even consider the GX. The best thing to do is to drive both of them at least twice and make sure you do the test drives about 2 weeks apart from each other. The reason I recommend it this way is that most people get really excited after the first test drive. On the 2nd test drive you are less excited and much more focused on the car itself. Usually after the second test drive you will know. I sometimes wait another week or two after the 2nd test drive to see if I'm still excited about a car. if I am, I buy it. Ultimately, both are good cars and its a matter of personal preference and cost.

  2. Typically oil pressure rises as the oil filter starts getting filled up with debris over time and reduces flow. Since your car is so new, there is relatively little resistance at the filter thus keeping the oil pressure low. If oil pressure suddenly drops however, that could indicate an oil leak or ruptured oil filter.

  3. My auto sensor died. It worked great beforehand and adjustment sensitivity was excellent. Had it replaced by dealer. Now sensitivity is poor and changing the sensitivity knob makes no difference to the sinsitivity of the system at all. Its as if the sensitivity knob doesn't work at all.

  4. I have a 2010 LX 570 with 42,500 miles. (Purchased in October/2009)

I replaced the rear pads at 35,000 miles.

My fronts are due with my next oil change at 45,000 miles.

Given that it's a 6000 Lbs SUV, I think thats reasonable.

What you are experiencing seems to me unreasonable.

But brake's wear is obviously very dependent on whether you drive aggresively or not.

On a side note: Wierd that my rears needed replacement first.

Hope this helps. I love my car and just recommended one to a friend today.

(He just sold his 2003 LX470 with 250,000 miles and wants a new LX)

  5. Considring getting a new 2012 LS460L fully loaded with sport suspension, pre-collision, etc. (Sticker is $83,020.00) I read about many problems and recalls including engine valves on earlier models.

Have these issues been resolved? Are there any other known problems with the LS460L after it's 2010 refresh?

I currently have a 2004 LS430 Ultra Luxury that I will be passing on to my kid who turns 16 in a couple of months. I love that car! It has 90,000+ miles and has been pretty much trouble free. Thanks.

  6. When I purchased my 2010 LX570 (in Southern California) Lexus offered the car with two different tires. Some came with the Dunlops and others with the Michelin Latitude tires. I was lucky - mine came with the Michelin Latitudes which I think are greatly supperior to the Dunlops. I have about 40,000 on them so far and could easily do another 10,000 or more. I would go to another dealer or an independent tire store for another opinion. Check the tire warranty that came with the car. Regardless, I would suggest you switch to the Michelin Latitudes as your next tire. You will never consider another tire after that. (The exception might be if you drive a lot in the snow. Michelin rated them only a 7 out of 10 for snow handling)

    Hope this helps.

    Good luck.

  7. As mentioned, lexus LS is on a 6 year cycle. As a rule of thumb, it's best to buy the car after it's 1st major refresh, since that is when they fix/improve the model significantly. I never buy the first year a car comes out. All my LS sedans were purchased right after their major refresh and I never had any major problems, bugs, etc. As for the current LS (LS460), the mid cycle refresh was done in 2010. So the 2010 model year or newer are after the mid cycle refresh, so that's what I recommend you buy.

  8. I own a 2010 LX570 and the car is more than I expected in every way. I would buy it again in a heart beat! I don't recommend you get the 2008 or 2009. In 2010 Lexus changed from "Lexus Link" to "Destination Assist". It's much better, offers better services and the big advantage is that you can call them while you drive and they can download your destination(s) while you drive as well. (Very useful). The 08 and 09 had a hard drive option to store music downloaded from an Ipod. The 2010 no longer has the hard drive option, (i wish it did) but you can play the ipod directly thru the nav/radio system by plugging it in. You can do the same with tho 08/09 but the ipod does not charge while in use. In the 2010, there are two connections to the ipod availavle, a usb to play music and a regular jack for charging the ipod. So in the 2010 you can play the ipod and charge it at the same time. (I could care less since I mainly listen to news and talk radio anyway) In the 2008 and maybe in the 2009 as well, the car came standard with 18" wheels and optional 20". In 2010 it's only available with the 20" wheels. (20" wheels look nicer) In 2010 they had only 2 options as far as I saw. Fully loaded with rear seat video or fully loaded without the rear seat video. (Mine is without since my kids are in high school). In 2011, the prices of the car went up significantly. So Lexus now has 3 versions of the LX570. I don't remember the exact options on each, (Check them out at the dealer) but I do know that the fully loaded one had 3 unique featers that were not available on the other two versions. Heated steering wheel (Great option that was not available on the 2010 LX), Rear seat entertainment and ice box in lieu of the center storage box. I have not personally seen an LX with the Ice Box, but from what I can tell it totally replaces the center storage box. If so, I would be hesitant to buy it since there really isn't much storage without that center box and I have a lot of STUFF in my center storage box. There is another option (radar cruise control with pre-collision) but from my investigation it is only on the brochure. Good luck trying to find a car with that option. In 2010 Lexus did not bring a single LX into the US with that option. I think it's an excellent option (I have it on my LS430) and would buy it if it was available. Maybe in the 2011 model year they are actually shipping LX's with it to the US. The used LX prices are very high. From what I can tell it almost doesn't pay to buy a used one since you don't save much. If you plan on keeping your car for a long time like I do, it pays to buy brand new.

  9. I have a 2010 LX570. The biggest change was Lexus Enform. I like it much better than the old system in the 09 that's based on on-star (I think).

The yearly subscription is not that expensive - about $280.00/year and their service is excellent. The biggest advantage is that if you need to find a location or enter an address while driving, they can do it for you and download it directly to your nav. There is one other difference in the 09, and that was that you could download all the ipod music to a hard drive built into the car, and play the music from the car's hard drive. But there was no way to charge the ipod or play directly (something like that). In the 2010 model, the hard drive option was eliminated. But you can play music from the ipod directly. I am not much of a music person (Mainly listen to news and commentary) so the ipod thing didn't matter much to me one way or the other. But if it does to you, do some investigation as to the exact differences. (Not sure what changes are in th 2011 model, but from what I've heard, nothing much). Other than that, phenominal car! Best car I have ever owned. Just drove it 320 miles in stormy weather and constant heavy rains and the car didn't even feel it. Truely amazing! Hope this helps. Enjoy

  10. I recommend the Michelin Latitude Tour HP. Size P285/50R20 111V.

I have a 2010 Lexus LX570 and I insisted that I get it with the Michelin Tires! (They are much better than the dunlops)

I just completed a 5500 mile trip of most of the national parks on the west coast with this car. (From Los Angeles, to Montana, and back down thru Seattle, Potland, etc). We were 5 people in the car + luggage, basically fully loaded and the car handled incredibly well. (The car has 20,000 miles on it right now and the tires still have about 50% of the tread left!) My experience with the Michelins is that they perform well even when the tread is below 50%. My previous experience with a couple of Dunlop sets (on other cars) was that their performance dropped significantly once you go below 50% tread left. They also don't last as long. The tire model is: Michelin Latitude Tour HP. Size P285/50R20 111V.

Tire rack has them on sale for $173.00. Here is the link:

You can also read more about them on Michelin's website. Here is the link:

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck. Amir

  11. Dear Newlee,

I too purchased a 2010 LX570. My low fuel light comes on at approx 1/4 tank and at that time it shows Distance To Empty = 8 miles. When distance to empty = 0 miles, I actuall still have almost 5 gallons left out of 24.6 gallons in total. I wrote about this in detail in a previous post on this forum. I have also noticed since that my middle seat (The larger half) rattles on certain freeways. (Depends on how far the expansion joints are from each other). I was told that this is how the seat's clamps are designed and nothing can be done or adjusted to improve this annoyance. Also, if you ever need to fold up the middle seats to carry something large, there is no place to latch the seats in a secure way in the up right position. So every time you brake, the middle seats swing and hit the rears of the front two seats. (I solved this with a $5.00 adjustable bungy cord). My rear suspension is very stiff. Furthermore, it appears to be calibrated differently than the front suspension. So on relatively small bumbps at low speeds, the front suspension works great and absorbs the impacts while the rear suspension hits the bumps and barely gives at all. I had the dealer inspect all of the above and they stated that the car is within design specs, so that's the way it is. I intend to pursue this further, but have been too busy lately. Reagrdless, it's very dissappointing! Especially since it's a lexus and an $80,000 + vehicle at that. This is not what one would expect from what is supposed to be the best SUV in the world made by the top luxury car manufacturer in the world. As to am I happy or not with this car - yes I am very happy. (Just a little dissappointed and frustrated)

  12. It's a good and bad sign that you are experiencing the same problem as I am. It's good, because it indicates that both you and I don't have a problem with our cars. Its a bad sign, since it appears there is nothing wrong with our cars, which means there is little hope for a fix or to make it better. I can understand Lexus' position to play it safe or conservative with respect to the amount of fuel left in reserve when the "low fuel" indicator comes on. I find it very disappointing however that they can't do better than trigger the "low fuel" light with over 22% of the fuel still in there. Even worse, is their inability to provide a little more accurate DTE once the "low fuel" light does comes on. Mine came on with DTE = 8 miles! And once the DTE=0, I could probably drive another 50+ miles! That's poor design. If they are going to leave ~22% of the fuel when the "low fuel" light comes on, at least give us a more accurate (and more usable) DTE. On the bright side... At least my car isn't accelerating on it's own!

  13. I put a set of the new Michelin Primacy MXV4 on my 2004 LS 430 and my Mercedes S600 sedans and I love them. They are very quiet, smooth, long lasting and offer excellent all arround performance. (Best tire in it's class by far). Cheapest place to get them is typically at Costco. Hope this helps. Good luck

  14. Vehicle: 2010 LX-570. I purchased this vehicle 3 months ago and love it! But I have a nagging issue that perhaps someone could shed some light on.

Fuel tank capacity per the brochure is 24.6 Gallons. When the low fuel red light comes on, my vehicle computer shows that DTE (Distance to Empty) is only 8 miles. (seems to me like Lexus designed this vehicle with an usually low reserve). A couple of days ago on my way to work the low fuel red light came on. By the time I got to a gas station (I doubt I drove 8 miles since the red light came on) my car's computer was showing distance to empty = 0 miles! But when I filled the car with gas, the most I could fill up was 19.3 gallons! I understand that some fuel will always remain at the bottom of the tank and is therefore "Not Usable". But 5.3 gallons of "Un-Usable" fuel represents 22% of the tank's capacity. Is this normal? What are other LX-570 users experiencing? Other things to consider about this issue: 1) On all my previous Lexus cars (this is my 5th) the car's computers show average MPG for this tank and average MPG for the life of the car. This car only has average MPG for this tank, but no average MPG for the life of the car. (Why?) 2) From day one it appeared to me that the driving range from full tank until the low fuel red light is very low. If only 19 gallons of fuel are truely "Usable", no wonder. 3) Is the fuel tank design so bad that only 19 gallons are truely usable? 4) If so, it explains why the low fuel red light comes on with only 8 miles left to go. (If they left enough fuel in reserve for 40-50 miles like most other cars, we would have to refuel even more frequently). By the way, knowing that the fuel reserve is so low forces me to constantly worry and monitor my fuel situation. In reality, I end up fueling when the car reaches a 1/4 tank or so, just to be on the safe side! (Which means even more frequent fuel stops) Any comments will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
