  1. I have 4 Nakamichi SP-C452 4-Inch Coaxial Speakers which fit perfectly as replacement for the OEM speakers for 91 LS 400 and are fully compliant with the OEM Nakamichi system. I just replaced my own on my 91 LS400, but like a dope, I bought too many speakers. I didn't pay attention that they came in PAIRS! Boxes never even opened. I would be they would fit your doors as well, but I would ask around the forum to make sure.
  2. Thx. Something wrong with the site though. Links to door removal no longer work. Bummer.
  3. Anybody know where I can find the directions to remove the inside door panels on a 91 LS400 to install new speakers?
  4. I need some help on diagnosing what may be causing this problem. When I press the accelerator, sometimes I get no juice whatsoever. I don't mean the engine revs but doesn't catch and go like a transmission issue, I mean I can floor it and I get nothing but idle level rpms. Usually happens after a stop at a light, but also can occur while moving. When it first started happening I took it in, and the mechanic wasn't able to replicate the occurence and thought it was all good. Also, he did a scan and said found nothing apparently wrong and was telling me to just come and pick it up. I said something's wrong, figure it out! Then, he did another test drive and at one point the engine just stalled out and died in the middle of the drive. He recommended a complete tune-up and said the car had never had one based on what he described as OEM plugs ('91 with 83K miles). Since then (2 weeks ago) it ran great, but just today started the same no rpms thing again. What could be causing this?
  5. Four Door, What's the downside if you don't fill the gaps? Could that be done with a gasket of some type?
  6. I've done a few searches on TRAC light, and seen some similar issues but was unable to be sure they're exactly the same as mine. My car in parked in an underground garage and driven once or twice a week. Frequently, as I start out, the TRAC light is on (button won't affect it) and the dash light shaped like an engine (forgive my ignorance of it's title, I'm at work and can't look it up) is also lit. This usually persists for about 30-45minutes or 25 miles, whichever comes first. Then they return to normal. What do I need to do to find out what causes this and what if anything, may be the problem. I prefer not to go to "Lexus of Manhattan" and spend $1500 to find out. Any other suggestions or diagnosis?
  7. Does anyone know for sure, whether the Nakamichi aftermarket 'SP C452' speakers will fit EXACTLY as replacements for the OEM Nakamichi door speakers on a 1991 LS400? By fit exactly, I mean plug and play. No cutting, no hacking, no hoping, no nothing. Anyone know?
  8. My 91 LS400 dashboard fuel gauge tops out at 3/4 full even when the tank is full. The dealer said it is shot and needs replacement for some ungodly amount, $750-1200 if I remember correctly. Is this something I can replace myself and if so, how difficult and involved is the process? Where would I get a replacement part. I have never done any work on the car myself before and I don't want to mess this up. I can live with it, and have for 3 years, it's just a little annoying and wondered if I could fix it easily myself.
  9. Okay, So I know you all have gone to great lengths to take care of and detail your cars, but my 91 LS400, after having lived a priveleged life for its first 9 years garaged in a suburb, has become a NYC car. Anyone who has lived in, or worse yet, parked in a Manhattan parking garage for any length of time knows it's death to the exterior. No way around it but maybe paying an extra few hundred dollars in tips PER MONTH, to keep it isolated. And there's no guarantee. So now, I've been dinged, scratched, nicked, and scraped to the point that I'm embarrassed to drive it outside of the city and want to get it completely repainted. The interior is in supurb shape and just needs a real thorough leather cleaning and rug shampoo. Estimate from a reputable body shop with whom I've dealt with before is $3125 PLUS MATERIALS ! Last time I looked the blue book was less than that. I don't think I can justify spending more on the paint job than the car is worth. (PS: it has 85,000 miles after 13 years.) What should I do? The shop owner said go to Maaco and see how their highest quality jobs come out looking, and decide. (Doing that tomorrow). Although I'm quite certain none of you have EVER taken your babies to Maaco, you might have with another car. Is it even worth checking out? Any alternatives? PPS: His other suggestion was move out of Manhattan and buy a new car.

  11. Someone suggested some JBL P432's. Apparently they're no longer available. Does anyone have some other suggestions to replace blown OEM Nakamichi door speakers for 91 LS400?????
  12. I only had one response the last time I posted this, hoping for more this time. 3 out of 4 of my in door door speakers on a 91 LS400 with Nakamichi system are blown and I was wondering is anyone could suggest comparable replacement speakers or actual Nakamichi replacements and how and where to get them? :cries:
  13. I need to replace my OEM rims for a 91 LS400. I found some on ebay but they are off a 94 LS400 with nine "spoke" design which I would prefer, but they are 16" with Michelin 225/60/R16 tires. Will they fit on a 91 LS400 or do I have to stick with the OEM 15" "directional" spoke design?
  14. I understand that the rims will not fit the 15 inch tires, but will the rims fit on the car if they have Michelin 225/60/R16 tires on the 16 inch rims? These rims are listed on ebay as coming off a 94 LS400. I would be putting them on my 91.
  15. I need to replace my rims on a 91 LS400. Don't have access to the car at the moment. What was the OEM rim size on the 91 LS400 ? If it was 15" and I buy 16' rims from a 94, will they fit ?
  16. 3 of 4 door speakers are blown. I want to replace with something at least as good without changing anything else. Suggestions ?
  17. This may sound stupid for a 91 LS400, but you guys are the best judges. I've accumulated a lot of dings and chips parking in an under ground Manhattan garage for the past few years and am thinking of having the whole body "cleaned up" and repainted. Only have 80,000 miles. Judging from what I read here, I can go alot further. The question is, if I decide to do this I would prefer to go with entire car the same color (Black Jade Pearl) and paint over the lower level two tone. What do you think? Would that affect my resale to afficiandados such as yourselves? I'm really on the fence with doing some repairs (ball joints, axle boots, 3 speakers, paint) and just selling now as is and getting something else. Problem is, anything parked in Manhattan is going to get dinged by the dingbat garage attendants, so why pay more for a new or leased car. As you can see, I only average 6-7K miles a year. Any thoughts ? And does anyone know a good and reasonable body guy in the NYC metro area? Preferably Manhattan?
  18. Just joined today (12 years too late). Got some specific issues with Maintenance especially in New York, NY. Need some advice on non-dealer repair options. 1991 LS400 79,000 miles. Garaged in Manhattan (therefore accumulating many nicks and scratches). Facing supposed repairs of up to $3000 for speakers, ball joints, power steering pump, and axle boots according to Manhattan dealership. Would like to evaluate mechanical issues with non-dealer repairshop, and possibly replace speakers myself. Any ideas ?? Is it worth doing any further repairs of this thing or should I just sell? It actually runs as well as ever. I question the dealer's integrity as they once told me to buy a rebuilt transmission claiming "shavings in the pan, and basically shot", while a Aamco did a diagnostic and determined all that was needed was new fluid, and compute scan showed no evidence of any debris in the pan. What are the risks of continuing to drive with supposed worn ball joints and cracked axle boots?
  19. I have a 91 LS400 (original owner) but have always loved the look of the GS400. Can someone summarize the major differences besides body design? Relative pluses and minuses? Do the GS's hold up as well as the LS's ? Mine has been a tank !
  20. I have a similar speaker issue, but also need other general advice... 1- Anyone know a mechanic in or near Manhattan who does good work on Lexuses ? 2- Anyone know what to get to replace speakers and how to do it myself? Just joined today (12 years too late). Got some specific issues with Maintenance especially in New York, NY. Need some advice on non-dealer repair options. 1991 LS400 79,000 miles. Garaged in Manhattan (therefore accumulating many nicks and scratches). The dealer is saying $600 each for three new speakers, plus $850 for Power steering pump (slight leak), $600 for Lower ball joints (worn), and $600 for rear axle boots. All this for a 1991 with 79,000 miles !!! Would like to evaluate with non-dealer repairshop, and replace speakers myself. Any ideas ?? My dealer is telling me that both rear door speakers and the front right door speaker are "blown". However I have no reason to believe that they did anything but turn it on and "hear nothing". Don't trust this dealer as they told me to replace a 1991 transmission for $5200 and Aamco did a diagnostic and said the fluid was low ($150) !!! Is it worth doing any further repairs of this thing or should I just sell? It actually runs as well as ever. Help! ?
