  1. I don't know about using the factory deck with an iPod . . . I do know that the new Alpine CDA-9835 (wicked deck!) I just bought supports the iPod. I think you just have to buy a little cable or something, and you can control the iPod right from the deck. Sweet! Regards, Bryan
  2. Hey Blake, I guess my statement was a littl too broad. Sorry about that. Yeah, there are people who have cars bought for them and appreciate them, but all too often I see parents buying their kids $30,000 cars and these snobby kids don't even appreciate it. And quite often, these kids haven't worked an hour in their entire lives. That is what irritates me. It's good to hear that you know the value of a dollar . . . that is the important thing :) I've got about the same kind of tuition to pay as you do, but it is all the other expenses that kill me. Insurance ($3500/yr), gas, car maintenance, health nd dental, room and board, food, etc. etc. etc. Being a student sucks . . . spending al this money while making little :( Regards, Bryan
  3. That's hilarious Hammer!! Are you serious?! If so, that has got to be the funniest mod I have ever heard of! SK . . . is the headlight washer bottle separate from the windsheild washer bottle? Maybe I just don't have any fluid in there . . . I assumed that they both ran off of the same resevoir. Thanks! Bryan
  4. Well, given the cold winters, you're going to want to ensure that you have free flowing oil unless you want to deal with dry starts. Of course, that doesn't explain why you'd need to change the oil that often in the summer. Hmmm . . . that is an interesting and valid point, but I think it is more due to the fact that 5000 is a nice round number. There are many areas in the State where it gets just as cold as up here in Canada, but they still follow the 5000 mile routine . . . Regards, Bryan
  5. If you're shopping for a new deck, the Alpine CDA-9835 is WICKED! I just bought one, and am very very pleased with it. Features galore, and impeccable sound quality. It has the cool new "BioLite" animated display, and you can change the buttons to one of 512 different colours (to match the factory lighting!) The Lexus' Pioneer speakers hold up well to the internal 60x4 V-Drive amp too. This deck is top-of-the-line Alpine, and I paid $529CAN ($400US) for it. It is worth every penny :) Regards, Bryan
  6. Yeah, I know . . . I tried that and everything else. It just doesn't seem to pump. I think I may need a new headlight washer fluid pump . . . any input? Regards, Bryan
  7. Weird . . . I don't doubt you . . . I just never experience that before. Maybe it is the brand of wipers we are using? Maybe RainX has an ingredient that is reacting with something in the coating of your specific blades, causing them to deteriorate? Regards, Bryan
  8. Does anyone find it weird that Americans change their oil every 5000 miles, and Canadians change their oil every 5000 kms. . . . I wonder who came up with the magical "5000" number? So: AMERICANS = EVERY 5000 miles CANADIANS = EVERY 3125 miles or AMERICANS = EVERY 8000 kms CANADIANS = EVERY 5000 kms That is quite a drastic 60% difference! Regards, Bryan
  9. I wouldn't say that RainX is detailing . . . it is just a cool safety product. It usually last me about a month or so, and is easy to apply. And it is only like $5CAN and you can get MANY applications out of a bottle. To me, it is a great deal :) Regards, Bryan
  10. It would be completely useless in my Canadian wniters too. But, if you have the money to fork out for a brand new S2000, then you should have enough money for a winter car as well. The cheap summer thrill for me is motorcycles . . . much cheaper, and much faster. Even my little 250cc ninja can outaccelerate most cars on the road. It has 25hp and weighs only 400 lbs and can do the 1/4 mile in like 14.5 seconds or something (while getting 75 mpg). I can only dream of trying my buddy's Suzuki GSXR-1000 . . . 150hp and only 400 lbs!!! The fastest stock bike you can buy . . . insane! Regards, Bryan
  11. I never noticed any of this steviej . . . in theory, RainX should actually prolong the life of the wiper blades to to the reduced friction beween the blade and the window . . . Also, what so you mean by "trails of rubber"? Like the rubber was melting to the window, or disintegrating? Regards, Bryan
  12. I have never seen the paste style Rain-X, and have always used the liquid (which works great). What is the benefit of the paste over the liquid? Why do you say only to get the paste? Regards, Bryan
  13. Whoa . . . a little harsh on the poor guy SK :P I don't think he was trying to insult you . . . I think he was just trying to tell you that he didn't understand what you wrote . . . Oh well. I was stupid when I had my leak and went into Canadian Tire without my Owner's Manual. Because I am lazy and didn't want to go back to my car, I asked the stupid people at Canadian Tire what I should use, and they recommended the Power Steering Fluid leak stopper. I'm not sure if it is due to the fluid or not, but my small leak got HUGE to the point where it completely drained itself each day! What a hassel! I ended up buying a used pump for $125CAN, but it cost $350CAN to install because I had some seized bolts that gave the mechanic grief :( Regards, Bryan
  14. Not a recommendation on the wipers, but have you ever tried RainX? That stuff is wicked! Put some of that stuff on your windshield and you will be amazed . . . it is like a teflon coating. Quite seriously, I could drive in heavy rain without even using my wipers! Regards, Bryan
  15. From what I have read, I believe you have the LCD screen and the bulbs that light it up. If you just have a burnt bulb (like I do), then that is all that should need replacing. I don't think you would have to replace the screen unless the you couldn't read what is on the screen. In my case, the pictures/icons are still on the screen, it's just that I need the backligh to make them visible at night . . . By the way, I emailed my local Lexus dealer about ordering bulbs yesterday, but they still haven't replied yet. I will keep you updated. Hope this helps, Bryan
  16. the SilverStars are very nice bulbs. They are not made like the cheap crap you will find on Ebay (and trust me, I tried the cheapies on Ebay and they die in less than a month!). The SilverStars light up the road very well at nice, and they emit a brilliant white light. They are pretty pricey though, especially when you have to buy 4 bulbs for the ES :( I think it cost me $100CAN for the four bulbs . . . Regards, Bryan
  17. Well, first I am going to get off my lazy butt and adjust the idle back to where it was before. I think I adjusted it quite a bit, which makes the computer have to compensate for my overadjustment. Hopefully this is my problem. I just hate going to a dealer more than the dentist! :P Regards, Bryan
  18. Wow! That would be awesome to own a car like that straight out of uniiversity! Don't you have to pay off student debts?! If I negated my student debt load, I might have enough money to buy a used S2000 straight out :P Debt sucks :( Regards, Bryan
  19. I just bought the new Alpine CDA-9835 top-of-the-line deck (super sweet!) but there is no fancy installation needed for a deck :P Anyways, as far as price goes, I pretty well phoned every single audio shop in the Greater Toronto Area, London, Kitchener/Waterloo/Cambridge, and Guelph and the cheapest place I found was at Number One Sound downtown Toronto. They only charged me $529 for the deck that has a suggested retail of $699 and an average retail price of $620 (based on all of my phone calls). They are really cheap to buy stuff from, but I don't know anything about the quality or price of their installations. Good luck! Bryan
  20. I believe the worst rust (on my fender) is due to a fender bender by the previous owner. I can tell that it has been repainted, and it was maybe not done very well. The door and quarter panel on the other hand have never been damaged . . . Regards, Bryan
  21. Definitely the gas filler steel pipe. Mine rusted right off! I also have some nasty rust spots on - passenger fender all around the lip - passenger door (one spot where the plastic moulding meets the metal) - passenger quarter panel - driver door (because the previous owner must have banged it against other cars a couple of times when getting in and out <_< ) I wish I had the money for a complete paint job, but $2500CAN will take a bit of saving, and I'm not sure if it is worth it on a car that is maybe worth $5000CAN. I do love my Lexus though :) Regards, Bryan
  22. Just be proud about your Lexus tundra :) You worked hard for it, so you can be proud. . . it is the fruit of your efforts. Although there are many many much more expensive cars out there, the ES is well-made and economical (from a Luxury point of view). I think the Rolls costs a lot more than 100k . . . more like 350-500k . . . an absolutely ridiculous amount of money to spend on a car. That kind of money would get you a really sweet house in my parts. But, if someone makes millions a year, I guess they could afford it. Although the Rolls isn't my kind of car, you almost have to respect it when you see it at the autoshow. Did anyone else see the new Rolls Silver Seraph? Holy cow! That thing is one huge beast, and due to the fibreglass construction, they managed to keep it around 4500 lbs. I would love to try driving that beast around town to see what kind of looks it gets Regards, Bryan
  23. Hmmm . . . duct tape sounds like an intersting fix for a student budget :P With regards to the throttle body . . . maybe I have a rough idle because I tried to manually adjust my idle at the throttle body about a month ago. However, it wasn't until about 2-3 weeks later that the problem appeared. Do you think it could be my adjustment that is causing me grief? Regards, Bryan
  24. Hey Tundra, There is nothing wrong with considering prestige when purchasing a car. Really, what other reason is there to buy a Rolls-Royce? It's not quality that you are buying there . . . I agree with you that it is absurd to purchase a car based on prestige alone (unless money is no barrier to you). I bought my Lexus first and foremost because of it's excellent history and reviews. The ES300/Camry are known to be very reliable machines, which was what I was after. Now, I also wanted a car with leather interior really bad, which is why I opted for the ES300 over the Camry. Besides which, I don't think the Camry looks nearly as nice as the ES300 either. Now, prestige also played a role in my deicision; however, it wasn't my primary concern. I love the fact that I am driving a Lexus, and am proud of it. And why shouldn't I be?! I worked freaking long hours in my high school days. In the summers I would work 75-hour weeks on flex time so that I could earn extra money on overtime. Some days I would go in to work at 3:00AM and not leave until 11:00PM . . . only to start work again bright and early the next day. So yes, you aren't the only person that must work for what they get. Now, I also don't agree with gloating . . . I'll never tell someone I drive a Lexus, cause I don't want them to think I am a snob (and I'm not!) Personally, it drives me nuts when I see parents buying cars for their kids. To me, this does not teach them responsibility. If my parents bought me my car, it wouldn't mean nearly as much to me. This is just my opinion. Maybe it's just jealousy speaking :P Regards, Bryan
  25. This seems to be the best thread that I could find that discusses the issue: Burnt Bulbs in Climate Control Thread What sucks for me is that I had a bulb burn out in my A/C control unit just after I instally my new Alpine CDA-9835 MP3 CD unit (which is wicked by the way)! If I only knew beforehand, I could have pulled the A/C unit out when I pulled out the stereo :( Oh well . . . I'm just going to have to pull it out again today . . . I hope that my Lexus dealer will sell me the bulbs for the climate control . . . Maybe the trick is to just go in with the bulbs (like SK did) and not tell them what you need them for . . . SK. did your local Lexus dealer happen to stock these bulbs? they seem like they would be a rare part . . . Regards, Bryan
