  1. If you remove both drain plugs you can drain 5 qts. Watch the ATF condition carefully, every oil change recommended. Thanks for that tip, will do that next time.
  2. I guess I have been lucky with ours so far. We bought it 4yrs ago, 2001 awd rx300 with 63k miles. We have 144k on it now, just change the oil, synthetic 4-5k miles. Did tranny flush at @ 75k miles. Today I did a drain and fill 4qts tranny fluid. Going to do that every other oil change from now on. Going to have timing belt, water pump and sepentine belt done @ 150k. Goodluck with your possible RX purchase. There are some nice clean used one's out there at a decent price.
  3. that is an excellent price for all of that stuff. Make sure plugs are iridium, do not substitute....either Denso, or NGK Thanks, I will make sure they use good iridium plugs, i just watched a video on hanging timing belt ans h2o pump, its a big job, I think I will let the mechanic do it, thanks again,...kimo
  4. any good treads in here for the do-it-yourself timing belt and water pump change? I would love to save a bunch of money and do it myself. I did get a quote for $750 with new timing belt, h2o pump, serpentine belt, new radiator hoses and spark plugs, does that sound like a good deal? thanks
  5. Just wanted to add that this is a 2001 model rx300, now has 129k miles and no major issues. thanks Kimo
  6. They only work in the first position. Not when you turn to head light position. I asked my wife to try auto position, they seem to come on there too? also have a little green indicator on dash that comes on in headlight position, is that telling me something is burned out?
  7. Easiest pads ive ever changed. Before removing inside pad , just use C-clamp against old pad to push piston in, it really helps. I purchased the $55 pads from NAPA and did not turn the rotors, they looked very smooth and just didnt need it. Brakes are purrrrrfffffeeeeccccttttt. NO SQUEAKS. We have 115000 on our Lexus now and its running great. Will do another tranny flush @ 1200000. Did last one @ 85000. No issues with tranny like some have had.....ciao, KIMO
  8. I have downloaded the manual and open it with zip7, thanks Just installed new front brake pads and went with the most expensive set, well worth the money. I didnt turn rotors as they looked perfect.....no squeaks
  9. If the fuel cap is removed and no fuel is added to the tank, or the cap leaks due to being poorly seated temporarily, you will get this code. If it was a loss of vacuum in the fuel system the CEL will clear within a few drive cycles. had a friend check system and got a different code today 1150 af sensor im told, is that the one in front of the engine? thanks
  10. hello, we have a 2001 rx300, 85000 miles. I had the vsc/cel lights come on yesterday. checked the computer and was given a code. p0440. evap, I already checked the fuel cap, have pressure when you unscrew it. so I assume that the cap is Ok ?? or possibly a leak in a vacum line?? any more thoughts would be helpful. I have read some of the other threads about this issue and other than the obvius, like a loose line. Im not seeing anything like that on my car. maybe I should buy a new fuel cap and go from there. thank you
  11. 2002 rx300 80k miles now, My wife had trouble getting the car started yesterday, it was acting like it wasnt getting fuel. I just did the IACV clean-up as posted here on this site. Made the job a breeze . Read the other posts of some of the people that did it and you can pick up extra tips. Our car runs great now, starts really easy. The Idle valve was gunked up inside and not turning well. Im sure they will all need this at some point with todays gasoline. I highly recomend this DO-IT-YOURSELF project if you want to save some $$$......Kimo
  12. This morning I followed your instructions and did the IACV cleaning. Thank you for the tips, it made the job go real smoothly. Like one of the others said, I removed the black coil after I had the throttle body off of the car. made it easy to keep track of the brass washer inside there. I only had one screw that didnt want to cooperate, the lock pliers did the job. It did seem that the control mechanism was a little gunked up and not turning as freely prior top the cleaning. Car starts and runs smooth....thanks again...KIMO
  13. my wife's 2002 rx300 had trouble starting today, it has about 81k miles. after 6 tries she got it to keep running and drove it home without it dying. Is this the similar problem related to ivac cleaning being needed? hard starting? it always seemed to idle fine so I am not sure, but I will probably clean the ivac anyhow. Thanks for the help, kimo
  14. my wife just told me of a noise from under the dash, 2001 rx300.......it must be the servo motor that others have been saying is making that clicking noise??????????? is the correct fix still to take it out, clean contacts etc......???????? help, thanks
  15. Would you be so kind as to explain what those circumstances are? My 1999 is getting a new tranny as we speak (type?). I have instructed my wife to de select overdrive when in heavy commute slow traffic so that the tranny will not constantly search for the overdrive.... I too would be interested in that tsb..... So what you guys are saying, is to downshift into 2nd gear when driving in stop and go traffic ???? thanks NO. Downshift manually for full lift-throttle coastdown periods ONLY when you foresee, can predict, that a quick return to acceleration is or might be appropriate. At higher coastdown speeds shift down only to second, below ~10 MPH shift down to first... In both cases the transaxle will not actually downshift until the vehicle roadbed has declined to the appropriate range "safe" for the selected gear ratio. But having "commanded" the downshift will prevent the transaxle from upshifting and thereby leaving you without "GO" should you soon have the need. But I would advise being very carefull against using this technique during cold weather, any suspected slippery roadbed surface, as loss of directional control can very easily result from even a slight level of engine braking on a FWD vehicle. And keep in mind that engine compression braking can also prevent your anti-lock system from being fully operational on a slippery roadbed surface. With what we paid for these cars, and the quality that Lexus talks about, does anyone else think that it's shame that this conversation has to go on. No George it shouldnt have to even be a issue, but it is. I just hope to get a few years out of are rx300 before it needs a tranny. So the more I can learn to help it last , amen to that.
