  1. has anyone tried replacing the coolant overflow reservoir with one of the aluminum cusco type tanks (sold on E-Bay and elsewhere)? it looks like that kind of tank wouldn't have the ability to handle a radiator cap, leaving the cooling system without a pressure relief. I thought someone had mentioned in one of the posts that he had a radiator shop fashion a new tank out of copper or bronze--can't find that post now though. any experience with that?
  2. if the timing belt breaks, in an interference engine, the pistons can hit the valves and wreck the engine.
  3. thanks for the tips, will try. had heard that injectors could leak down some pressure overnight, causing rich, rough start---had assumed that was the problem. the starter motor seems strong, the roughness occurs after the starter seems to have done its job. will check those connections though.
  4. my sc400 normally starts up just fine, but after sitting an unusually long time (1-2 days) it will start rough and give a noticeable gas smell for a few minutes. I thought this might be injectors leaking, tried some techron without help. Would appreciate any ideas.
  5. Thanks for all the info on the SC. I have a question about the need to remove the headlight to perform my BFI. I can get the airbox out easily enough with the light in, but I can't get the snorkel out. The pictures I have seen look like there is another screw holding in the snorkel, and it is under the headlight. Has anyone had any luck getting this snorkel out with the light in?
  6. could you tell us how much the corbeau seats cost and how hard the installation was? did they bolt right in? my last car ( a volvo) had the air bag sensor under the driver's seat. do i need to be concerned about that in my 92 SC400?
  7. Which injector cleaner? I have used Chevron techron, but are there significant differences?
  8. I think I may have found a cheap fix. I bought an expansion plug ( 1--1 1/8 in) for 3 bucks that seems to seal the opening well. These plugs are hard rubber with metal washers on each end and a bolt through the center. When you tighten the bolt the rubber is squeezed and it expands out to seal up the opening. I put it through the opening for the coolant sensor, and so far no leaks. Of course the coolant sensor no longer works so need to keep an eye on the coolant level. Hope someone else may find this helpful.
  9. thanks for the offer. i will try your advice. i also hope to be busy through super bowl week watching the bengals
  10. Ouch---the lexus dealer here in Cincinnati wants $350 for a new reservoir. Is there a Toyota Supra part that might fit?
  11. I have a nagging leak where the coolant sensor plugs into the plastic reservoir. I have tried tightening the plastic screw and also tried silicone sealant without improvement. Does anyone have experience with this or ideas for a fix? Thanks :(
