  1. It looks similar to the 12V bulb I needed for the side marker light on my RX 300. I bought a pair of GE 194/BP2 (12328) bulbs at Ace Hardware for just a couple of dollars. http://genet.gelighting.com/LightProducts/...0021:automotive Yours may be different, so could do as I did and bring your bulb in to Ace. Good luck, Lori
  2. Thanks for the info Rya. It turns out that the ball mount I bought does fit -- it's just very hard to get in and out. I wish I would have purchased the Hidden Hitch brand you recommend as I can see that the black painted finish on my Resse is going to get very scratched up if used very often. Lori
  3. Does anyone know the part number for the ball mount for the factory installed towing hitch on the 1999 RX300? I have the factory tow package on my 1999 RX300 which included everything but the mount and ball. I bought a Reese 2X2 ball mount on eBay but the shaft is way too long. Toyota ball mounts are sold on eBay but I don't know if either of the models being sold will fit my hitch. Do either PT228-89445 or PT228-89340 fit? I'm not planning on towing anything heavy - just renting a small U-Haul trailer to move some items.
  4. While the transmission issues in the 300 seem to have been mostly solved by 2002, the 02' you're considering has exceptionally low miles and should still be under the Lexus powertrain warranty of 72 months or 70000 miles. With such low mileage, you have the opportunity to do the more recently recommended fluid ATF maintenance. I have an early 1999 RX 300 and the tranny just failed at 77K miles. I drove a 2007 RX 350 as a loaner while the new tranny was installed. While I liked the slightly peppier engine and better cabin noise insulation, I much prefer the body style and more expansive windows (particularly in the rear) of the 300. I leased my 300 in June, 1998 and liked it so much that I bought it when the lease expired. I've considered it the perfect car for me.
  5. If someone has it in PDF format, it can be hosted and shared freely at www.box.net with no expiration (as long as the file size doesn't exceed the limits of a free account).
  6. Has anyone ever tried the Kumho Solus KH16 tires? I checked out www.tiretrack.com for the "most popular sellers" for my 1999 RX 300 and these came up in the top 5. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?ti...inSpeedRating=S They are very highly rated especially for the price of $63.00 each, with their only lower ratings being for deep snow and ice traction (issues I don't deal with in So Cal). I 've been using the OEM Goodyear Integrity tires which have been fine for handling and quiet, comfortable ride but have disappointing tread wear (I'm on my third set with only 77K miles). I still have about 50% tread on my current tires but was thinking about new tires to go with my new transmission and wheel alignment. I can't find these locally so would order them from Tire Track. Therefore, another question I have is whether tire shops charge more to intstall tires ordered online.
  7. I saw this U-Tube video posted on another forum and wondered if it works, esepcially on small door dings. http://www.autoblog.com/2007/05/29/video-c...compressed-air/ It sure would be great if it works. If anyone tries or has tried it, please post results here.
  8. I'm nearby in Newport Beach. My 1999 RX 300 with 77K miles is getting a new (rebuilt) transmission right now at a the dealer where I bought it. I was able to get Lexus to assist with the cost because I'm an original owner and followed all of the maintenance schedules (all but one at the dealer). The information on this board and elsewhere helped me negotiate with Lexus. Before I knew that Lexus would help, I checked the OC BBB found a transmission shop in Santa Ana with a rare AAA rating that would rebuild the transmission on a 2WD for $1,900 assuming that most of the parts are re-usable. If they have to replace all of the parts (unusual), the maximum cost would $2,800. It's called "Carlos Transmission." Link: http://www.labbb.org/BBBWeb/Forms/Business...CompanyID=45283 Here's a list of other shops within 10 miles of my zip code: http://search.bbb.org/Results.aspx?z=92660...bb=0&rad=10 You've probably already had it repaired, but thought I'd post this in case it's still not addressed.
  9. I've been driving an 07 RX 350 loaner from the dealer for a few days and have to say that it is really one sweet vehicle. I've always loved my RX 300, but this one is really spoiling me.
  10. Would you be so kind as to explain what those circumstances are? My 1999 is getting a new tranny as we speak (type?).
  11. If your check engine light is on, you can go to any Auto Zone and borrow their diagnotic tool to get the code(s) causing the problem. I learned of this a couple of years ago when my dad needed me to get his Jag smogged for CA DMV registration while he was out of town. The engine light was on and service shops all wanted a minimum of 1/2 hour labor to read the codes. Someone told me about Auto Zone so I went there, borrowed the tool, and wrote down the code that came up. Since the tool resets the eng light, I had it smog checked right away and it passed with flying colors. I then researched the code online and my dad was able to know exactly what repair was needed, which he did when he returned from his trip. It took about only about 5 minutes to run the diagnostic test. It's hard to believe how much shops and dealers charge to do it. Doing it yourself allows you to know what it needed and then find the most cost-effective way to address it.
  12. Due to the current price of gas, I thought it might be timely to address this issue again. I have always used regular (87) in my 1999 2WD RX 300 and never had a problem. I use mostly Chevron, but buy from Costco whenever I can. I get what I consider to be excellent gas mileage of 19.8 MPG combined mileage and about 23 MPG on long freeway trips when I calculate it manually. My LUV also passes smog with no problems whatsoever. If I remember correctly, lower octaine fuel causes fewer emmissions. Are there any modifications that can be done to further increase MPG on RX 300s?
  13. Thank you. It looks like I have to contact a sales rep to order it. I've seen similar kits online but they involve a pad that is used on a standard two-speed drill to buff the lenses out. You are supposed to mask off the surrounding painted areas to make sure you don't accidentally strip them as well. I may try this if a simpler method doesn't work. This product is heavily advertised and promotoed online and claims to be "backed by the Federal government" because he was able to get a patent. Looking at his eBay feedback, it doesn't work well. His FB is actually funny because he adds his own glorifying comments to each one. Just the excessive claims alone would make me skeptical of trying it.
  14. That's an interesting and inexpensive way to go. I wonder if you apply some sort of polish and sealant following the Soft Scrub if the clarity would last longer. I may try Bar Keeper's Friend (which is much less abrasive than SS) first to see if that works. If not, then SS followed by BKF for a fine polish, then a sealant (which one - I don't know).
  15. Unfortunately from current personal experience, I've learned that this humming sound during acceleration in the lower gears can be a sign of transmission failure.
  16. I don't know the answer to your question about the fuse, but my antenna does not go all of the way up anymore. I've tried WD 40, cleaning it with windex and having someone pull on it when it is going up. So far nothing was worked. Any suggestions?
  17. You might want to have the motor mounts checked. I had a similar problem with a Jeep Grand Cherokee several years ago and that's what it turned out to be. It was still under warranty and the two times I complained about it, they said they didn't notice it when they test-drove it. I had the service manager drive it with me in the car and he immediately noticed it and knew what it was. The vibration stopped when the broken mount was replaced. The "D" light on the dash of my 1999 is also out. I see this is very common. It's not a big enough problem for me to cause me to replace it
  18. I am original owner of a 1999 2WD RX 300 purchased in June 1998. The acrylic headlamp lenses have lost some of their clarity and I'm looking for the best product to use to restore and polish them to as close to new as possible. There are many products and kits out there and they all claim to work. Any advice on what works best? I'd rather not have to go through the process of using 1000 grit sandpaper and buff with a drill if possible.
