  1. Okay folks, I knew that both of the catalytic converters were replaced in my SC300 just prior to my purchasing the vehicle. Recently it came to my attention though that these ARE NOT the stock catalytic converters. Looks like they hooked me up with the entry line magnaflow cats (judging from the design and the welding required). I can't really tell since there is no label on them. Now I just need my air filter (currently on order) and a nice aftermarket catback exhaust and I should be good to go. :D
  2. Good news. It ended up just being a vacuum hose. Both the heat and a/c are running solid now. :D
  3. *BLEEP*e, I bet that is spendy to fix. Probably not nearly as much as a whole new climate control unit though.
  4. Guess it could also be a heater-core issue. I will find out which when it goes into the shop on Monday. :cries:
  5. I know it sounds crazy at this time of year, but we just had a cold front move in recently, so I figure I will turn on the 'ol heater and test it out. I push the auto button on the climate control and am immediately hit with a max A/C blast. Even after getting it shut off and playing around with the settings, the best I could manage was about luke-warm and that was only after the car was well warmed up. Any ideas as to which it could be? *EDIT* It should be noted that the climate control unit's display is working perfectly and the A/C and vent work fine, it just doesn't put out heat like it should.
  6. I imagine that unless it is pulled from a newer model, that it will be somewhat tempermental like the 12 disc changer in the SC models.
  7. Uh, I believe I mentioned that it was stock in my original post.
  8. I wouldn't be so sure about that. I'm not doing the job myself, but the folks who are doing it will custom fit it to make it look as stock as possible (ie custom faceplate, ect). I ended up going with a Clarion head unit. This is the model: http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/Pr...ProductID=17447 When all was said and done, I just couldn't justify trying to rehash a 12 year old piece of audio equipment, even if it is made by Nakamichi. That and I really miss being able to swap out discs without having to pull my car over and open the trunk. Yeah, having 12 discs at once did reduce the need, but there are still times where I want to listen to more than just whatever I have in the magazine. In addition, it will be nice to have a player that doesn't skip at every other bump in the road, or one that doesn't mind reading through a disc with a couple of scratches on it. Even if I replaced the changer with a refurb or one of the changers from the ES300 it would still have these issues. I will put up with the slight blemish in my dash to gain the functionality of a nice brand new aftermarket deck.
  9. Honestly, for the prices they charge I could get an Eclipse single disc head unit, that would completely blow away any kind of sound quality that I could get from the stock deck/changers. Not to mention it would be brand new versus a refurb. I have had very mixed results with refurbs so unless it saves me a ton of money over a new product I don't buy them. Didn't realize that the 12 disc changer was a Panasonic. I really could care less about having a disc changer, I just wanted to see if there was anyway I could keep the stock head unit.
  10. Sorry to bump a 2 year old thread but the one in my '95 SC300 seems to have broken completely. Grinds and locks up. It finally ejected the magazine but refuses to even lock it in anymore. Is there an aftermarket changer that will work with the stock deck?
  11. Thanks, glad to have found this place. It has saved me throwing away money already. ;)
  12. . . and in good shape. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2656381
  13. You're nuts. 112 in a Saturn SL2. My SC300 just replaced a '97 SL2 with an auto 4-speed and I was scared to take that worthless POS above 85MPH. Starts shaking like a leaf at about that speed.
  14. Creative. Not sure if I will do that but I will keep it in mind.
  15. Yeah, didn't hear any knocking when I used 89 in mine but after that first tank, I have switched to 91 and plan on keeping it that way.
  16. Cool, okay one more lame question then. I know it says premium fuel is required for this vehicle. Initially I tried the middle grade (89 octane) and it seemed to run fine on it. So is it absolutely necessary to run premium (91 octane or higher) and exactly how much is the fuel efficiency effected by it?
  17. The car already has new plugs and wires, tires properly inflated and I am burning premium fuel. So I guess cleaning the throttle body is about the only thing left to do besides adding a K&N filter to the thing. Didn't know about Lexus already having the CAI stock on all of their vehicles. Interesting.
  18. I bought my '95 Lexus SC300 last week with just under 133K on it for $7100 after tax, title, ect. Outside of the Optima Red Top Battery that I had swapped out from my old car the thing is 100% stock. The dealer that I purchased it from replaced all of the plugs and wires and both of the catalytic converters. Overall the car is in great shape for it's year but it does need a few things done to it. I have replaced the serpentine belt and I am currently replacing the timing belt, a coolant hose and getting the brake fluid flushed. Beyond that it will need tires and the front struts replaced before too long. Struts on these cars are EXPENSIVE. It's not the struts themselves that are expensive but the labor involved. That smooth ride doesn't come cheap. It's worth it though. Out of all of the cars I looked at in my price range, this was the first one that had ABSOLUTELY NO LEAKS!!!!!!!!!!
  19. Whoops, my bad on that one. Either way though, does it make any kind of a difference?
  20. Yeah, I know it's not the most fuel efficient vehicle on the road, but I just picked up a '95 SC300 w/auto tranny and was wondering if there was anything I could do to it to boost the efficiency just a little bit. I know that the K&N filter is pretty much a given, but I was also wondering if the !Removed! CAI that is available for the SC300 would make any kind of a difference or if it would make it worse. I know that CAI can either make things better or worse depending on the vehicle.
  21. Just 110 for me in my '95 SC300 w/auto tranny. I guess I could've gone a bit faster but I was running out of space where I could clearly see any potential officers hiding and at 110 or higher I would probably end up spending the night in jail. No joy ride is worth that IMHO. As others have mentioned though all of the older SC series cars could go quite a bit faster with an extra gear. It should also be noted that my car is 100% stock at the moment.
