  1. TwinTurbo,

I did the antenna yesterday. Just like new! Thanks, for all your help. All I need now is to get this darn CD Changer put in. I know you said from the trunk (passenger side), down the side of the back seat, under the running boards, up behind the glove box, to the back of the radio. To take the console off, take off the vent area, then the shifter console area, then the ashtray, then unscrew the bolts to take the radio out. I am still going to wait for pics, but I just wanted to get an idea of what I needed to do. Did I list everything correctly? Man, I am sooooo tired of listening to the radio when I have a brand new CD Changer waiting to be played. :D

hey kino, today i will be checking up on my car... i'm going to take some pics of the spots today with my camera phone because i my mother took my digital camera on vacation to mexico. you'll still be able to see them clearly but might have to look harder on the trunk shot... no matter, you'll recognize it. for the radio area..

    1. pull out the ashtray

    2. remove the top vents

    - - this will expose the top and bottom portion of your radio - -

    3. remove bolts that you see holding down the bracket...

if i remember correctly, the brackets are like twin towers... they run all they way up to the vents... but everything else is right. i'll get back later on today

  2. Okay... Sorry... I will wait (impatiently)...:whistles: Just joking... Thanks, again.... :D

hey kino, one more day and hopefully my car comes out the shop, if not, i'll take pics of the trunk, running boards, and console... i would rather have my car back and take pics in my garage... i'll let you know tomorrow afternoon how it goes.

  3. For about 2 months or so I have been dealing with acceleration problems. I have a 1992 sc300. When I accelerate gradually the car seems to jerk back and forth and the rpm gauge seems to stop then cut back in. I took it to numerous mechanics and I have replaced all the plugs and got a new set of wires. The last time I was at the shop, the problem was fixed by the mechanic adjusting the throttle sensor. This worked for about 3-4 days and now the problem is back! What does the throttle sensor look like and where is it in the engine compartment? About how much do they run? Could ther be another problem? I am tired of dealing with this loss of power. The car still accelerates quickly if I punch the gas pedal down but when a constant speed is held around 40mph and accelerating slowly I feel the jerk and loss of power.

hey what's up, i attached a pics of the throttle sensor. good luck

  4. I have decided to change out my 1993 SC300 engine with a lower mileage stock replacement after discovering head gasket or head problems with my engine (please see "Coolant Bubbling (boiling?) Through Reservoir, Need help figuring out why.").

As far as the new engine, it is reported to be a 75,000 mile USA version with no problems. I plan to replace water pump, timing belt, check valve clearance, and replace plugs before installation.

I will replace transmission mounts, probably motor mounts, all hoses, and any other rubber pieces I can find.

I do not know if there are quality parts aftermarket for this or if I need to stick with Lexus parts.

Any other ideas on how to tackle this would ba appreciated. My goal is low maintenance stock stuff, but I would not mind a custom look under the hood if I can get high quality stainless braided hoses.

    Thanks for any help.

    Bill Harrison

hey what's up... sorry to hear about that engine block. instead of tearing down your old one and going through the hassle of wasting time, just buy the short block. it comes with everything and it's much cheaper to fix instead of having them replace the whole thing. call up a couple of jdm engine shops and ask them for a 93-97 2jz-ge engine block from a supra or lexus gs300.

  5. Well, yours truly is back to Square 1.  My dream engine arrived and it looked great!  Before I did a compression and cooling system leakdown test on it, I removed the drain plug to get out any old oil, and water came out of the pan.  Leakdown was OK, Compression was bad on one cylinder, and Cam lobes were corroded, and rust residue was all through the engine and in the pan.  The seller agreed to take the engine back, after telling me that I was just not familiar enough with engines to know that these were not serious problems. Twelve hours work and $200 in shipping down the drain.  The reason I bought this engine was that the history was supposed to be known and an expert had checked it out.  It probably was a great engine before he cleaned it, got water in it, and let it sit in his shop for a year.

    Will consider head gasket replacement.

I am concerned about the Japanese engine sources because they do not know anything other than average miles on a Japanese engine.  Have others had good luck or bad luck with these sources? One of them is engines-r-us, but there are a lot of others.

    Thanks.

Hi, I was just wondering if you might have found out what the problem was with your car.

I have a 1993 gs 300 and my husband drove the car (first mistake) he didn't notice that the temp went up really high after the check engine light came on and before he noticed it the car over heated and smoke along with steam came out. He kept adding water to the car and drove it home. He changed the termostat and now the temp is or seems good at times but the car has bubbles in the tank and the car keeps overheating. do you have any hints on this

i have the 93 gs3 and i had the same problem... my car temp had gone up and i added more water and coolant... replaced the thermostat and it was fine for a very good while. well after about a year or so, i got the same problem again. so i took it to a friend's shop and they told me it was the water pump. apparently this is what i picked up... after the car overheats, it blows out the water pump. the water pump doesn't give out at first, but the seals and plastic propellar begin to deterioate slowly which will start to release coolan in it's overflow pipe. they replaced it with a high performance pump where the propellar is now metal and it runs perfectly fine. when and if you decide to replace the pump, go ahead and replace the timing belt. the belt is probably around 20 bucks but well worth it because you're not paying for the labor. since they have to tear down the whole front end, the timing belt is exposed and you might as well change it out. i paid about 450 bucks which is very very cheap compared to the dealership. good luck with your car... take care of it

  6. okay i have the Namamichi sound sys, sounds good and all, but i wanted to get the Navi installed, i looked around for after market ones, but didnt like the feel, and that it covers up the whole console, so i wanted to get a OEM navi system, so do you guys know where to get one without selling my car to get one,

    :D

I believe the navi system is about 4 to 5 grand

  7. hey, whasts up, long time no chat, u sure it was 2500, for tuneup, because i have alot of miles on mine almost reaching 3 digits, so i wanted to get the service, done, i dunno what i need but that sounds toooooooo, high, for a tune up, how didu get it down to 400, did u tell them to no do certain things,

hey what's up... i told the dealer that it was a ridiculous price and to just change the plugs... so i think they just charged me for the damn labor and i left my car there for like two days and got a rental. but anyways, i paid a pretty penny for my damn tune up and now it's all good to go. i didn't have to get another tune up until like over a year later. our cars are very very low maintenance. right now my car is running in prime condition. a tune up is not one of those, i'll do it later kinda deals... it's a necesity and just shell out the cash for it... try to get it under 600 bucks.

  8. okay iwanted to take my car to the dealer to get the service done, its after warranty so, i wanted to know what they do, as far as parts, visual inspections, etc...

i know there is a thing in the back of the owners manual but is there anything else

    like the

    30mi

    60mi

    90mi

    105 mi

    etc....

hey GSspeed, what's up. I took my GS3 and they wanted to charge me 2500 bucks for a tune up. basically change the plugs, wires, and do a visual... i'm like hell no... So i got it down for 400 bucks just to change out the plugs. unfortunately i have to get it done at the dealership. The engine is too hard to work on and I do not feel like going through the hassle of taking the whole top part apart to yank out 2 plugs. but lexus is very pricey.

  9. One more question: :D Do you know how to take off the antenna motor? I just received my antenna mast and it is broken, so I have to go and remove the remaining nylon tube in the motor. Thanks, again... Standing by for pics and more info..... :D

hey kino, lets see, to take remove the antenna motor, you would have to go into your trunk and remove the driver side panelling. you'll see the antenna motor chillin against the side of the fender. you'll see the bolt you need to remove. yeah, tomorrow i should get my car so please be patient with the pics.

  10. So, is it pretty easy to run the wire from my trunk, behind my backseat and down to the running boards? I know I am asking a lot of questions, but I just want to do this right. Listening to just the radio is driving me CRAZY! Any other details you can provide me? How should I take the console off to get to the back of my factory radio? (Top console (with the vents), then shifter console, then ashtray, then the radio)?

no worries my friend. I'm glad you're asking all these questions... that's what the forums are all about. I like to share my knowledge of the GS3/aristo to all the fellow members here. well anyways for the console, i would remove the ashtray first and then the ac vents. i think all you need is a flat head screw driver to pry out the vents and to remove the ashtray, i think all you need to do is open it up and pull it out slowly. after that, there should be brackets with screws to release the radio itself. after that you should be all good to go. I should be getting my car back tomorrow the 12th... if you want to wait a little bit longer, i can snap some pics so you'll have some concrete images of exactly what to do.

  11. What do yo mean "run it down under the carpet all the way to the head unit"? Please provide details. I need all the help and assistance I can get. Thanks, for all the info!

well since you're trying to get a wire from your trunk to your head unit, i would run it through the passenger side of the car underneath the carpet and plastic running boards and all the way to the head unit. just pop off the two running boards when you open the passenger doors, unclip the carpet and run your wiring underneath until you reach the head unit.

  12. TwinTurbo,

I see there is a wire running from my current CD Changer running from the trunk to behind my backseat. The Din plugs are not the same, so I will have to run my Din plug from my new changer to the back of my radio. Here is the tough part.... How do I get that wire from my trunk to the back of my radio? I do I get access to the back of my backseat? Do I need to take it out? If so, how do I do that? Any help you can provide me will be gratly appreciated. I am trying to do this as soon as possible. Thank you, in advance.

hey what's up... you can put through a wire from the trunk to to radio without taking out the backseat. it's a tight squeeze but you can do it. take out the back panel of your trunk cover, on the right side of the gas tank, you'll see a small opening that will lead to your rear passenger seat quarter cushion. you can pull the quarter cushion from the top and pull the wire through and run it down and under the carpet all the way to the head unit. hope this will help you out... when i get my car back, i will snap some pics for you

  13. Well, for now I have a JVC CD Changer I need to install. I am taking out that PYLE CD Changer I have because it has given me nothing but problems since day 1. Being that I have that PYLE CD Changer already, should it be easy enough for me to take out the PYLE CD Changer and install the new JVC without me messing something up? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hey there what's up... you shouldn't have a problem with swapping out the changer it self. just make sure your your connections between the changer and head unit have the same number of pins and the rca pre-outs connect. either than that, you'll be good to go.

  14. I don't have anything yet. Just getting an idea.

hey what's up. well if you're going to use an aftermarket stereo, you'll need:

    1. stereo

    2. amp

    3. wiring

    4. wire butts, connectors, wire jumpers

    5. wire crimpers, wire strippers

    6. particle board, power tools

    7. creativity

    8. patience

depending on color codes of the factory wiring... these are common colors for power, ground and remote

    battery=yellow(constant power)

    accessorie=red

    ground=black

    remote=blue

your pwr and const will depend on your style of installing...

this will be an idea of what to expect when installing:

removal of the factory stereo, with particle board and power tools, you need to make a face place for the big gap... you can either cut, or use jumpers on the original harness to power your new stereo. from your new harness, you're going to extend wiring for the speakers and remote wire(blue) and run them to the back of the trunk where the original amp is. remove the original wire harness from the amp and find speaker wires from harness. once you find speaker wires, connect using wire butts. now you got radio and speakers... now for the amp... run a power line from your battery to where ever you are going to mount it... connect a ground to the body of the car and connect the remote(blue) wire to the amp. since you already have your speakers connected to the stereo, you're going to dedicate the amp to your factory sub. just connect the subs to the amp and walla, you have your upgraded stereo and kickin sub...

like i say, this is a very sketchy way of doing it... of course there things left out but didn't want to spend half a day on this... let me know what exactly you're going to get and what you are planning to do so i can give you way more specific details...

  15. Hey everyone. Brand new to this area. I just bought a 2001 GS300 with about 45,000 miles on it. LOVE THE CAR, still smells brand new and runs like it to. Great Great Great car. Can you all tell me how many miles yours has and how old it is? I am just looking to figure out how many more years I will be able to get out of it and make sure the 30,000 grand was worth it.

what's going on, i have a 93 GS3 and it has about 192000 and still going strong. as long as you maintain your engine, you could get a good 4-500000 from the engine. if my 2.2 honda engine gave me 300000 miles, then for sure my 2JZ can give me more. I have complete faith in toyota on this engine not breaking down on me. besides, this is a very very low maintenance engine. enjoy your car.

  16. How did you wire an aftermarket amp to your factory sub?  Did you also run it to your factory radio and factory speakers too?  Let me know the details, please.  I want to do that same mod.  Thanks!

hey what's up. it's a simple process if you know wiring... i ran all my speakers from a panasonic head unit and dedicated 400 watts of SONY power to my factory sub. let me tell you, this sub hits hard for being stock.

    toyota_aristo_interior.sized.jpg

this is a pics of my panasonic head unit. since i had the trunk mat fitted for a factory cd changer, i just stuck the amp undeneath it and put it against the rear quarter panel of the car. so let me know what kind of equipment you have and i'll explain to you the process.

  17. Your are on.  Just need an excuse to go to SoCal.  What kind of amp are we talking about.  Where is the factory amp located on the 93 GS?

hey leo what's up, the factory amp is located in your trunk on the passenger side quarter panel underneath your cd changer if you have it. it's pretty big, you can't miss it. and about the amp... totally up to you but i would pick a sony or jl audio.

  18. Thanks for the information on the GS300. When it comes to the GS300, you know your car. I will ask you other questions in the future as necessary. Thanks.

I am waiting for the information from your contact in Florida on the key issue. Please let me know if you can provide the contact information. Thanks, G.

hey gilbert what's up. i emailed my friend and await his reply.

  19. T, I stay near Mission Valley. What does Aristo mean?

mission valley, very nice... money town!!! whoo hoo... anyways "aristo" is the japanese version of our car. I'm a car fanatic and i think japasese cars are better in every aspect than american cars. So... I did a japanese conversion on my car.

    Lexus GS300 = Toyota ARISTO

in japan, the aristo comes with non-turbo, twinturbo, or V8

in the states, we get the non-turbo engine

well there's your jdm crash course for the gs300/aristo

if there's anything else you want to know, hit me up about it... or for the matter, what ever you want to discuss.

  20. I wanted to know if you buy 20's for the GS, do you have to have a brake upgrade or can you just keep the factory brakes. Is there any danger with keeping the factory brakes with 20 inch rims or does it not matter. Thanks and i look forward to hearing your responses.

i have 19's on my car and i didn't have to upgrade my brakes... they are perfectly fine. i think it's a preferrence/performance with the person.

  21. TT, without question, your car is off the hook! Nice looking car with the mods. If I see you around I will stop you and say hello.

Do you have the contact information of your from in Florida?

hey gilbert, thanks for the props, you'll see me around. by the way, where in san diego do you reside? i live by tijuana. anyways, i'll PM you the contact info of my friend.

  22. TT, I have a backup key on order that should arrive by Thursday.  I will be happy to ship your friend in Florida my key.  Hopefully the problem is with the key.  I should talk to your friend in Florida before sending the key, I need to explain what is happening.

Yea, SD!!  I like your car as I see it from the signature pic.  Do you have more pics?

hey gilbert what's up man... here are pics of my car

    ARISTO_DRIVER_SIDE_FINAL.sized.jpg

    ARISTO_REAR_FINAL.sized.jpg

    ARISTO_REAR_DRIVER_QUARTER_PANEL_FINAL.sized.jpg

i'm the only one is southern cali with this kit and probably the only one in the states with this wing plus the only aristo conversion in san diego. so if you see this car around, feel free to stop and say what's up. you should post pics of your car.
