  1. Howdy y'all! I'm currently the proud owner of a 91 LS400. However, with school & work being easily reached by bike/bus I'm forcing myself to cut what I don't need, that being my car. Details for the car (with pictures) are available here: Click here! Also, since I won't get anything bundling them with the car, I'm selling a few extras. 4x Stock LS400 1991 Rims with Good Year Ultra Grip 7 rubber (roughly 2000km on them). 1 complete set of 'Exact Mats' for an 1991 LS400. $50 1 drivers seat back (Tan, decent condition, w/foam) $50 1 LH US Headlight assembly $100 1 RH US Headlight assembly $100 You pay actual shipping from Fort McMurray, Alberta. :) Please e-mail me at tkendel@telus.net if you would like any more information, pictures, etc. Prices are OBO, I'm not very good at setting prices! Thanks for looking!
  2. Sure have.. I own one. :) The Burgundy Pearl (3H8) on my car is definitely darker than that. But it's still red! :)
  3. Wiring diagram was different. I guess they changed between 91 and 93? Anyways, hooked the light directly up to the battery, no real improvement in brightness. So there you have it, no resistor. DRL = Low Beams. That being said, my high beams are now angled downwards, and I will just drive with them at night. Hope this thread didn't confuse everyone! Cheers, Jify
  4. Howdy Folks! Good news! I checked through a wiring diagram. There is: A) A resistor that actually DIMS the low beams for the DRL. So no, DRL should NOT equal Lo-Beams. B) A ton of relay's in the Canadian version, and I will not have time to check them all. I'll keep at it! But will be out of the country (and sadly, away from my car) until the new year. However, when the new year comes I will be out there, in the -38C weather, testing relays! If all else fails, I will remove the resistor. (ie: perma lo-beam!) Merry Christmas! Jify
  5. Well *BLEEP*, what do I do now? lol 8( I've been keeping an eye on the lens offered here: http://clublexus.com/forums/club-lexus-ven...rest-ls400.html Sadly, I already have Silterstar ULTRAs installed in my car. They are not bright, hence my perceived headlight problem. Thanks Guys! I'll explore some options. Edit: Anyone have a wiring diagram? :)
  6. sorry, hadn't noticed that you were in Canada. the US market 1st gens didn't have any DRL at all, and in later lexus model, incl. my '99 the DRL were generally separate from the low beams. Crap. Well that sucks. Guess I'll be working on retrofitting projectors in the near future. Thanks guys!
  7. Anyone else? DRL = Low Beams on 1st gen?
  8. Aim has been checked, it's peachy. I can't actually back up 25ft as per standard aiming, since my light pattern is just a glow at that distance, can't actually tell if the pattern is moving down 2 inches. But it is pointing down at the correct angle, did it in 5ft increments instead (pretty sad...). The bulbs are H4 Silverstar Ultras, the ones everyone raves about being the brightest/best. The headlight unit is a JDM 1 piece. Thanks for your help PureDrifter!
  9. That's exactly what mine do (except park lights also come on). There has to be something else causing this though. I tried two identical (or near identical) bulbs in my LS400, and then my sister's Sunfire. The sunfire had WHITE light, with the low beams. Mine was yellow. =/ Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the Canadian 1991 LS400 headlights? I can't help but think there is SOME sort of problem. Videos on youtube, photos from other vehicles on this site, they all seem to have brighter headlights. This video (I apologize for the posters bad taste in music) at 0:18, , the headlights are on LOW (no park lights), and the light is bright and white. Can another confirm that DRL = Lowbeams? I've got conflicting reports now, not sure if I should start going through my wiring or not! Thanks again!
  10. DRL is never equal to low beams. you didnt mention exactly what year you had, the 89-92 are known to be worse than average. the later 93-94 used an improved headlight using H4 bulbs and not the stupid useless bulbs in the earlier ones. hey jcrome :P It's a 1991. I've actually upgraded the Headlight unit to a JDM 1 peice (H4 bulb). Time to start troubleshooting. Anyone have any ideas? I'll start with relays and fuses, but perhaps someone else has hit this snag before. Thanks again guys!
  11. This wire doesn't seem to be them. Is it perhaps the Green/black wire with silver dots? I was a little foolish and threw everything back together before I tested the lights, doh! I do not want to fight with that stupid black vent again. Thanks in advance for any reply! Hi! I looked at the first posting I made and also looked at the notes I was taking as I did my install and the wire I used is definitely the green/silver dots wire. Thanks! I'll have to crunch into the mystery a little deeper then. My manual said Lexus Park lights are Negative (-). But, that can't be it, because it's positive.. lol. The search goes on! Thanks again!
  12. Thanks for the reply jcrome04! Can anyone else confirm that for a 1st gen, DRL do NOT equal Low Beams. Thanks again everyone!
  13. So, I know 1st Gen(1991) headlights are bad, but I have reason to believe mine are EXTRA bad. I've seen the photo's of your silverstar ultras, and they look INFINITELY brighter then mine. I've gone through light after light after light, and they are ALL producing that very dim light amber glow. I have a very simple question. If you "turn on" your headlights, do they get brighter? My parklights turn on, but my headlights (day time running) DO NOT GET BRIGHTER. My high-beams are very nice, but not safe for city driving. After all this light changing, I still can't accept these lights are this bad. I have a faulty relay... don't I? Thanks in advance!
  14. Well, I started it up this morning to head downtown for an oil filter. Put it in reverse and I'll be damned if the headlights didn't turn on, and stay on. So problem fixed! Sticking relay? Cold weather? The high wattage bulbs are now ousted. Back to my Silverstar Ultras :)
  15. I didn't see any melting when I opened up the headlights and replaced the bulbs. I'll be troubleshooting some more today. Peeked at all the fuses last night, didn't see anything burnt out. The previous bulbs were very high wattage, I'm guessing (wild guess) that it may have been too much draw for the current wires, perhaps a wire failed somewhere in the circuit. If I find anything today I'll post it here. Cheers, Jify
  16. 91 LS400, been working beautifully ever since I've purchased it. Minor preventative maintenance, installed a remote starter, and changed the battery/belts/fluid. I recently have cycled through a few headlights, trying to get more light intensity, I've given up. My last headlight switch was about a month ago. I started the car yesterday, and to my horror, no low beams! No biggy, so they burnt out. I grabbed one of my higher end pairs and threw them in, same problem! I had this car outside all year last year, not a single problem with headlights and cold weather. Now, no low beams! The odd part is I do have fully functional high beams. (and fog/park lights too) Anyone ever have a problem like this? No low beams, but functional high beams? It just "happened" one day, there was no "oops". Is there a fuse somewhere that handles only the low beam circuit? Thanks in advance for any help! Cheers, Jify
  17. Thanks for the post! Definitely helped me A LOT. I've installed my system, everything works GREAT, except for the parking lights. This wire doesn't seem to be them. Is it perhaps the Green/black wire with silver dots? I was a little foolish and threw everything back together before I tested the lights, doh! I do not want to fight with that stupid black vent again. Thanks in advance for any reply!
  18. Anyone ever see these before? Looks very interesting, snagged this from Club Lexus. Apparently they sold on Ebay... but he has no items in his store at the moment. Might give a lot more brightness then the glass stock lights? I know my JDM one pieces are just terrible in comparison to every other vehicle I've driven as far as light goes. Anyways, cheers, just sharing! :)
  19. Lol. I'm definately not getting into those lights anytime soon. Seems like its abit of work. I threw my blue LCD's in the doors instead. Looks nice. :)
  20. If your worried about heat, the LEDs don't cause any, so they should be fine if they fit. I have two blue LED 194's sitting around (i think 194 is the small bulb?), I'll be trying to get into the licenses plate sometime this or next week. I'll make sure to give you the scoop if no one has by then. :)
  21. Howdy guys, I'd like to thank everyone right off the bat for all the helpful stuff on this forum! It's incredible! I bought my lexus last year in may/march and have been trying to "clean it up". I've replaced the coolant with proper toyota pink, replaced the old ATF fluid, and have been slowly replacing the PS fluid. Have done the brakes, taken off the back mufflers, and softened up the leather. My lexus is just short of the 310k mark, and its still an incredible car! However, since I bought the car I've been trying to get that original lexus ride back, which seems to have faded. Replacing one of the bearings on the front end reduced noise (and belt wear, lol) by a TON. However, I still can hear what I "think" are lifters while the car is running. Aside from that, the hoses are all old, and by the look and feel of them, ready to give up the ghost. But before I do that... I'm thinking of seafoaming the sucker, but I'm scared. How is the UZ1-FE going to handle 17 years of buildup? Has anyone ever "ruined" a car by running seafoam through it? I'm sure I'll smoke out the neighbours, but they are the least of my concern at the moment. Sorry about another "seafoam" question, I just haven't seen alot of high mileage LS400's attempt it yet. Maybe I'm blind. :) Thanks guys!
  22. The traction control system in the '92 is not only totally USELESS it can easily and quickly get you into a hazardous situation. I adopted the practice of manually turning it off just as soon as I started the car. Just ignore the indicator or remove the bulb. Or if you insist, do a brake fluid flush and that will often solve the problem. But be sure that whoever does the flush is aware of how to flush the TC assembly. I can 100% agree. Highway speeds + passing + ice + TRAC = nasty 110km/h 360 degree spin going down the highway. I now manually shut the TRAC off as soon as I hop in my car! (but it was handy for low speed driving..) :)
