  1. Sounds like the 'broken wires along the drivers side hinge in the trunk syndrome'. This is not uncommon in the gen 1 LS. Do a search for this or just look at the wires along the drivers side hinge in the trunk. You may have to unwrap the outer sheath to see the wires. You are likely to find one or more broken ones. They made them slightly too short at the factory. If any are broken, add wire to lengthen, re-wrap each one, and your problem will go away. Be sure to report back. Mike
  2. I just put these Yokohamas on my 93 LS. I am more than pleased. Much better than the Goodyears that were on them. Great reviews. Great ratings. Everything you could want in a tire. Whatever you go with, at least concider these. Tire rack link below. Tire rack Just my $0.02 Mike
  3. First take out any screws you can get to and pry out the memory seat panel from the back. With the window down, I was able to pry the top of the inner door panel up and away from the lip that it sits on. Until I was successful with this I honestly did not know if this could be done without breaking it. Luckily it has enough play. I then inserted some wedges to keep the opening as wide as possible while I shined a light down there to inspect. The rest of the fix as described in my 3/23/05 post should be self explanatory. I hope this helps. Give us an update when you are successful or if you need a better description. Good luck. Mike
  4. Why not make the discloser of your model year mandatory when starting a thread? Often the answers to questions asked are year specific. Someone always has to ask "What year is your Lexus" Seems to me that it is discourteous not to offer this basic information up front when asking for help. I know that this has been suggested before but it is routinely ignored. Is there a simple way to make model year disclosure a necessary step to post? I believe it will make this great forum even better. Thanks, Mike
  5. I opened my door yesterday so I am posting the fix. With the window down, I pryed the inner door panel up and off of the door. I could see the rods moving when inside or outside handles were moved. The latch mechanism has a plastic shroud around it. After unsucessfully trying to move the shroud out of the way, I broke it partway off. I now had access to the trip lever and was able to open the door. With the door open it was easy to remove the inner panel to inspect. I discovered a broken spring and figured out where it went. Apparently without this spring holding a paw in tension, the latch remains in the locked position. Of course I had no replacement spring onhand. I was lucky that the old spring broke at the end so I did the old stretch, curve a new end, and reuse. The plastic shroud reattached enough to stay and not foul the window or the door. End result --- good as new. I am so relieved! I fixed my lexus for $0.00. I have a bad back and climbing over the center console was getting old.
  6. I can't open the front driver's door on my '93 LS 400. I can hear the solenoid firing when unlocking. The lock lever does not have full travel when powered - it moves about half way. It feels disconnected when moved by hand. The interior and exterior dood handles have full travel and I can see the rods move. I believe the problem to be in the latch mechanism itself. I can't remove the inner door panel to access anything because I can't open the door. Help!
  7. Thanks for the replies. I was hoping that someone knows if and how that sensor fitting comes off. Short of that, I guess I can live with a new lower full level. I'll just have to keep a close eye on it until I learn to trust it. By the way, I do love this car. It's a better ride than many late model cars I've been in and It's 12 yrs old. Thanks to all who post here with fixes, I've fixed my flickering dash and my blacked out climate control display - both on the cheap.
  8. There is a leak from the coolent recovery tank on my '93 LS400. It leaks from where the coolent level sensor is attached. Can I undo this connection and seal it up with silicone? If so, does it unscrew? Does it pry out? It's not apparent to me and I don't want to bust it. I'd hate to spend $$$ on a whole new tank if I don't have to. Thanks in advance Mike
