This was driving me crazy, too.  I noticed it was stuck in Day Mode.  It wasn't until Tex mentioned the adjustment to the left of the steering wheel was I able to fix it. I think a valet must have done it.

Thanks, Tex. And no thanks to Lexus for their incredibly ridiculously HUGE and utterly WORTHLESS manual.  Look up Day or Night mode in the index.  It's not there. Then you can only fix it in the navigation screen by putting in (I think) a DVD?  But did it say just adjust the switch to the left of the steering wheel?  Maybe on page 1,350 somewhere.  This is what I dislike MOST about my car.  When I have people in the car, I tell them to open the glove compartment and see how big the manuals are.  If I keep the car twenty years I will never read all of it.  Otherwise, I've been happy with the car itself.

Umm. You're welcome, but I posted that 9 years ago.....  [/ZOMBIE THREAD]

  2. Firestone Winterforce. Half the cost and excellent performance. Look on tire rack. Your car should have directional, staggered tires which means they must stay on that corner of the car for the life of the tires. They can not be rotated. For snow tires, they also should be staggered although I doubt this is a very good car for snow. Can't see ruining a $40 something thousand car by driving in salt. I myself, use a "winter rat" during the season.

It's not 1985 anymore. You won't ruin your car by driving it in the winter due to salt on the roads; modern cars will not rust away. I have had my car 8 years, including some nasty winters, and there's not a speck of rust anywhere.

I have AWD with all seasons, but have read plenty of posts by RWD owners that use winter tires. Some say that's a better setup than AWD with all seasons. Unfortunately, I can't help you on sizing. Good help on tirerack.com though.

  3. I'll be having this dilemma soon as we'll be having our 2nd son in just about 6 weeks! Our first is 4 1/2 year old, just close to being moved to a booster seat. It should free up some space to allow an infant child seat in the middle. I should have the seat this week, will try it out and let you guys know. Oddly enough, I recently traded my 2008 subaru legacy wagon for an IS350 AWD 2011 and there's little difference (if not more) in the is for passenger behind... Anyway, my son LOVES the is.

An infant seat in the middle, with a booster too? Good luck.

  4. I just bought a used IS250 and I'm looking for some tires also. I don't want to pop anybodys bubble but I think if you read the fine print on the Michelin tires you will find the warranty is half of 45,000 miles (or whatever your milage rating is) if they are different size tires on the front and rear as mine are. They can't be rotated so they reduce the wear warranty by half. It's still the same tire so it really should not make any difference unless you are burning rubber off the rear tires. I haven't checked any of the other manufacturers yet but I would imagine they probably have about the same policy.

Is this different than other manufacturers as to staggered set up?

  5. i have a 2007 is 250 and im wanting to upgrade to the navigation screen and backup camera...can anyone let me know what im getting myself into??!!!

I'll help you. Why on earth would you want to spend thousands of dollars to install an in dash navi system that wasn't even state of the art when it came out 8 years ago? If you really want to do it, there are step-by-step threads on ClubLexus to do it. Google maps are way better than the Lexus system--just the screen is smaller; and Google provides real time traffic from crowd sourced Android phones, not some spotty traffic service (not that the 07 Lexus system even has traffic info).

And--who is really going to want to help you when your first posts bash everyone here? Why is it our fault that you picked the Lexus owners forum with much less messaging traffic? Look at other threads here, and the frequency of posts.

    Good luck.

  6. VBDenny--Sport mode for the AT is *only* the ability to "manually" shift with the paddles or gear shift. It doesn't do anything else--there are no suspension settings, steering changes, etc. If you hit the "sport" button, it changes the AT shift points--which would not really work so well if you were manually shifting anyway.

  7. I can do that. A few weeks ago I bought an IS250 AWD. The AWD models come with a 6 speed shiftable automatic. The rear wheel drive cars have an 8 speed shiftable (I assume) transmission. Both have three modes, ECO NORM SPORT. If you buy the F Package, you also have a SUPER SPORT mode which is really a track setting.

Having owned several Lexus and Toyota cars, the transmission is everything I expected and maybe even a little more. When the car is in the SPORT mode, the transmission performs (automatically) exactly as you might when getting on it. Even blips rev matching downshifts, very impressive. Should you have the desire, select the manual mode and use the paddle shifters which are like those on my Logictech steering wheel for video games. I haven't played with it much as it tends to lead to aggressive driving and I'll wait until I'm someplace where there isn't anything around.

I drove the IS350 AWD F-sport and it is wicked fast. I thought that then I drove an IS250 AWD and decided that it was fast enough for me. The thing still rips but I I certainly don't expect to blow many doors off with the 2.5 Besides, I kind of like keeping my license clean.

All 2nd Gen IS's had the 6 speed for the auto, other than the IS-F, which had the 8 speed. 3rd Gen RWD gets the 8 speed. I have a 250--but the paddle shifters are a waste of time--all they do is lock out gears above the gear you are in. So--if you are in 4th, you really have a 4 speed auto--it won't hold the car in 4th from down shifting.

  8. Greg_hi,

Click on the following link and open the PDF file the go to page 2. Ther you can see a pic of the Nav sytem screen. Click on Menue button, number 2 from left bottom.

    http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...ost&id=3769

That will take you to next screen where the buttom "Suspend Guidance" is there

Click on the following link to see the Menu screen options.****on page 14****

    http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...ost&id=3770

the "Suspend Guidance" is the top left button. Click on it and it'll display a message for several seconds then it says--in Jap. of course--the guidance is suspended.

I recommend you download the English Manual from this site, color print it and I assume you can follow the pictures/illustrations.

    links broken, can anyone provide?

You mean provide the link to the post from 6 years ago?

this thread is still here; why wouldn't the other one be? both same age? thanks for your sarcastic and patronising reply tho, super helpful _b

My mistake. I'm sure Engine Passion still follows this thread 6 years later, and has kept a bookmark to the original links...

  10. Thanks yeah I am kinda straying from Infiniti. I heard the dealers charge a lot to fix them and it just doesn't seem to be my thing. The company that makes the Lexus has always been good.

I saw a red G37 the other day and wasn't really all that excited about it. I have seen a lot of IS around and they look like a good car. My neighbor has an Acura TSX but Honda has quite a ways to go on styling for their cars. I just don't plan on buying a car and driving with something with a chrome beak, it is quite silly tbh.

I also find that this car is RWD which is quite excellent. The Acura is FWD, I'm kinda tired of cars with FWD, just my personal preference. No need for AWD; no snow here hence not looking for Subaru WRX either.

I find these cars at high milage 98,000 for around $16k. How long does the drive train last in this car? I assume there is a slight possibility that these might go over 250k but this car isn't a 4cyl Japanese car so I'm not sure.

I can't imagine that the Lexus dealers are any cheaper than Infiniti. I've had my IS250 for 7 years, and I've never regretted my purchase.

You might want to consider the Audi A4 too. I test drove an ATS this spring, and was pretty impressed with that too--much quicker than my IS.

  11. Nothing was done, it is the same engine and everything remains unchanged (including the carbon buildup).

There is nothing Lexus can do to fix it, it's the design of the engine. The 4GR-FSE isn't the only engine affect by this issue, it's a widely known problem for a lot of DI cars.

Nothing you can really do except, use high octane gas, use full synthetic engine oil (not the mobil 1 crap), get intake manifold cleaned every 50K miles, etc. and pray that you didn't get a lemon.

Then why does the service program only apply to certain model years, instead of all model years? And why would companies keep putting out DI engines if they will end up having to take the engines apart later on?

  12. 1. Switch is set to "ON" instead of "DOOR".

    2. Dome light stays on for a minute after you close the door.

    3. It is possible that some small dent formed on the inside of the door where it strikes the button to turn off the dome light, so that the button does not get pressed down far enough when you close the door. I had this happen when a seatbelt got caught in the door when it was closed. If this is the case, some type of adhesive (I used one of those adhesive foam pads you would stick under a chair leg) right in that spot will press down the button enough.

If it's not one of those 3, I don't know.

  13. R U still part of this owner's club? the same thing just happened to me last month I have a 2007 IS250 with only 46,000miles. Did u pay for the whole thing? It sounds to me like it's a Lexus failure, but I'm going to get screwed!! Can u tell me what happened to you, do u still have your car?

What's your inservice date? Are you still under the power train warranty?
