  1. When the nav unit was first assembled there was an intitial boot up and set up screen. That function can only be performed once. And that's it. After that, all data, menus, and memory are set. What your talking about would be like unistalling the windows operating system on your computer, and then expecting it to be there reset by unplugging it for awhile. I really think your just stuck on a command screen. Once the system recieves the correct info, you will be able to restart the cycle and this time use the correct region as the option, then reload the disc and your good as gold.
  2. Well, actually I projected those thoughts to you so in fact it was mine. :P And after rereading it I think the point of the car not knowing any better was what she was actually refering to. We all know that mirrors can be folded in and out, but how would the car know when to perform the function "automatically" was the point being referred to. Your point of them automatically opening after you closed them was well taken and first point. I think I moved on to if it did do it automatically, how would it know when to do it.
  3. ( I Love ol Ray Charles stuff!!!) Georgia
  4. Well said!!!! Okay, first, RF, and SW, he brought this issue to a public board. So the issue on the board is everyones business if they choose to reply. If I were to call his parents and give them the business and so fourth, that would be out of line and not anyones business. The issue I was taking up was the fact that they never consulted with Denny, and included him in the process. I very much agree with RF when it was said that Denny seems very well centered. Which is why they're not talking to him about it and giving him a chance or beleiving in him irks me even more!!!!! The mere fact that he is handling this the way he is just proves that they showed poor judgement in Denny's character!!!! I do want to make sure that I state that I don't beleive that Denny's parents are bad people in anyway. I actually think the opposite. I think that Denny and his family seem very close and well valued. But that doesn't mean that they don't make mistakes, which is what I think happened here. We aren't talking about manipulating the older son into babysitting a sibling for the evening here. THEY MOVED HIM OUT OF THE COUNTRY!!!! He never got to wrap up his personal affairs, say goodbyes, take the stuff he wanted, etc.etc. I would have gone thru the roof!!!!!!! People on death row get more! But if they had pulled him aside and talked it out. Maybe even did some "bargaining" so they had an understanding. A plan that they were all on the same page with. Or, they came to him and said this is our only choice, and he said no, and they "pressured" him to go, and sort of "made" him, I could get on board with that. Sometimes we have to do what we have to do for our families. But to be blindsided like that is wrong. I think trust is one of the most important fibers that hold us together, and to breech that like this, is wrong. They Lied to him. Anyway you look at it. With all that said, Denny, I'm glad to hear your making the best of it. I understand your doing what your doing for your family and I commend you for that. So, what is the next step? You said your dad will be there for a few months and then he is leaving you to care for rentals and his mom, and get you started in college. Have you been to the university yet? do you have any campus choices? and btw, after they leave, I say drop the motor out of the CRV, complete revamp with twin turbos and a dropped suspension. Maybe big fuzzy dice off the mirror, custom paint job, and 20''s. Then you won't miss the old rides so much. ;)
  5. But you hit the load US tab. So now it's waiting for that disc. Any other disc goes in, once it read the TOC it rejects it as the wrong disc.

  7. Well, I have some good news and some not so good news. First is that I got confirmations today. My turbo is on the way. Also the rest of the parts should be streaming in soon after. ( I should have just got the kit , but I saved a few hundred bucks by getting it this way instead.) The not so good news is that I was looking at the calendar, and the only week and weekend I had to dedicate working on it would have been the week of the 24th thru the 30th. Well, it just so happens that the garage I was gonna use for it will be taken on another project. ( The garage with a Dyno.) No Dyno, no tuno..........Sucks the big one... So now I may have to wait till the 2nd or third week in October to do the install and tune it. It's his dyno, so I don't have alot of say. Anyone else is gonna charge me by the hour, and be mega hassles. So, I get to closely study my new turbo for a few weeks. I'll hold it, spin the blade with my finger and imagine the SSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and the feel of it's pull. Then I'll imagine the look on the other guys face as I'm suddenly pulling away from their "I think I gotta fast ride" mobile, and their sudden realization that they have no hope in this futile effort. BAHhahahahahahah....... But it looks like until then, I will have this tiny turbo, ornamenting my desk, torchering me every day. So, I'm gonna start looking into the exhaust system and get that going for now. I think I'm gonna get the Tenabe Medallion or the Apexi Sport. Not really sure yet. Also I have been looking at body kits. I think I found the one I want. I will be making the phone calls for that later this week. So, there is still much work to be done. I will have to be patient. The end result will be worth it. I have found in building cars, it's better to be patient and select the right parts and do the job right or afterwards it will only cost you more money and time and headaches.
  8. Most/Some/None ? Hope lost
  9. From what I have read here, by going imtothe load menu and hitting the "X" country load tab, it erases the current settings loaded and is waiting for the Nav disc that corresponds with the tab selected. So if you hit US, you now need to finish the load with the disc. Once you do that, you'll reset the nav and can then go back to the load menu and press load and select the correct country and then reload the disc that corresponds with it. Because the nav only has a small amount of hard drive space, it's deleted all the info that was there to make room for the new info. I would think if you just finish the cycle, you could then start all over.
  10. I have a 2001 GS300 that also has a navigation system. All of a sudden it stopped working and has a message of "disk not detected" on the screen. I have not changed the disk that was working fine before this happened. I have tried to take the disk out and reinsert it but with no change. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks. That's an ECU issue. The Nav system isn't booting up the disc. But before you go that far, try this first. Remove the disc and clean the CD transport real good. Use some compressed air and some electronics parts cleaner and clean the laser lens and transport out good. It may be that a piece of dirt os clouding the lens or blocking it's ability to read the disc. If after you claen it out and you still have this issue. The next step is to see if you can play a normal cd or dvd. If you can, with no issues, then the NAV ECU will have to be replaced.
  11. Yeah, but to be honest, the aftermarket still drives the "stock" systems to get better. For many many years, a couple hundred bucks can get you way more than you can buy in a stock entertainment system. The Pioneer Avic-D3 has voice directed nav, with 3 map views, plays dvd's, ( while in drive), xfm, sirrius, am/fm, Ipod interface with Ipod video, rear camera, color display control, tuoch screen everything, full eq, sub woofer control with phase control, dsp settings, 2 audio/video inputs so you can add a playstation or xbox, and an audio/video output so you can have another screen in the vehicle and watch a dvd or playstation all from the same head unit----cost, $900.00 Lexus's and Mercedes, BMW, etc.etc. don't offer half those features and charge 3x's as much!!!
  12. why exactly do you need new calipers? I get the pad and rotors maybe, but calipers too? Is there a mechanical failure?
  13. You just remove the brake calipers and you pull them off. They may be stuck, and make sure the parking brake is not on.
  14. You might have a bad radiator cap. If the cap isn't holding say 13 psi, it may be letting the fluid boil which would fill the reservior up. In any case, it's a $10 part and a really easy first step in determining the problem.
  15. Be warned, the IS 300 will quickly become the favorite "I drive" car. I sold my 2003 IS 300 to a family here in town. They were replacing a Toyota Avalon for the wife. About a month later he called wanting to know where I got the 4" antenea so they could get one for thier car also, and he went on and on about how surprised he was at the handling and smoothness of the car. He owns an SC 430. He went on to say that while the 430 is more powerful, the 300 would handle circles around it. And now they have had a few " debates" over who gets to drive the IS. 15k for an 03'? Is it a dealer serviced car? If so, get the vin, do the carfax, call the dealer and give them the vin, they will have all the service records on hand for ya. So long as the car has never been hit, and the car checks out, that's a great deal. I sold mine for 22k. and it had 37,300 miles on it. The 2JZE inline 6 is "bulletproof". This is the motor that they put in the Supra with twin stage 5 turbos and created an amazing 1000 hp ------from 6 cylinders!!!!!!! This has been TRD's racing motor for 10 years. It's a great motor and drivetrain. The only issue this model has is the stock radio. The disc changer had alot of issues. I never had a problem, but I see it on the forum all the time. But 15K, that is a deal.
  16. This is already here in the aftermarket area. fully integrated glovebox iPod® adapter - digital sound through car speakers - fingertip iPod® control via audio system or steering wheel- mounted controls (where fitted) ------ On my system, the Ipod menu is actually on my car nav, screen and I use touch screen to navigate through the play lists, and start, stop and pause all looks like your looking at the iPod itself. - car audio system display shows current playlist, current track and time elapsed* - glovebox adapter keeps iPod® out of sight - adapter charges iPod® if battery runs low** - adapter matches stereo and iPod® volumes And I can watch movies from my ipod on the nav screen while driving, and have a destination loaded in nav. giving me directions. Not to mention the ton of other things it can do that stock nav systems never even consider being able to do. So maybe in a couple of years, the stock nav systems will have Ipod interfaces, but will still be sooooooooo far behind the tech curve.
  17. Ok, here's the deal with this. You actually have a couple issues here. Your CD changer won't play a DVD audio disc not because of the disc format, but because you need to have 192 KHz / 24 bit D/A converters. The sampling rate of a CD is 44.1 KHz. which means that your ML system uses only 96KHz 16 bit D/A converters. That's why a DVD player can play a CD, but a CD player can't play a DVD. Now, if you ML system has a DVD player, then you can utilize that drive to play DVD audio discs. But here again, you would be limited to 1 disc. Unless you have a 6 disc DVD player. If you want more music space, may I suggest using an iPod interface? Then you can have 80 gigs of music and video with a much more searcahable library and storage system. Let's say you loaded 1500 songs on a DVD audio disc and one day you wanted to listen to a specific song, what, are you gonna scroll through 1200 songs to find it?
  18. From what I understand from readng this thread, the Nav system is waiting to finish a comand. I think you have to load the correct disk, so if you loaded the U.S., then you need to get a US disk and load it. Then once it's loaded you can go back to the load menu and then reload the correct country.
  19. Does the map on the sreen show a crossraod when it is saying to turn right? And when you said about going west and then returning it told you to go east, can you explain a little more? Did you have a destination programmed into the nav? Did you turn the car off and then come back and turn the car on and resume the same route?
  20. sleep, !Removed!, eat.----repeat----
  21. AGREED!!! This is a family thing between Denny & his parents. I think we all agree that maybe there was a better way of doing this - you know talking about the situation upfront, openly & honestly. One thing to keep in mind - your G-Ma is 90.... she won't live forever so that reason isn't a permanent holder to keep you over there (hubby's great aunt died today - 101!!). See how you feel about handeling the rental properties - you might end up liking it. What we're you going to study in college? This is going to give you one hell of an education. And look on the bright side - you have told us about all of your fun times you've been having over there. Ride it out..... you're only 18, make the most of your experience and don't spend all of you rmoney!!! Ok, I agree with everything here if they had talked about it first. I know this is a family thing. I understand that this is really between them, but that doesn't change my perception of this. Even if they came to Denny and asked and he said no, and they forced all this anyway, and now he's over there. I would agree because atleast they gave him the options first. Remember, he is 18, and not 10, or 15. He's 18. He gets a say in every part of his life from now on. And, I also want to add that ( and remember, I don't know Denny personally, I don't know his family at all, I don't know that we are getting all of the story here even.) But from what I have read here about how you (Denny) are handling this I would ask, would you have gone if they had asked you and explained the situation? If say 6 months before leaving for the Phillipines your mom and dad said here is the situation, and this is what we need, can you help us?,,,would you have?
  22. Yeah, I live in Florida,,,,I don't dare push that button. I'm afraid it might tear a hole in the universe or something. No cash? Paint you brake calipers then. Looks great, costs like 30 bucks. You can couph that up can't ya? And then you should buy some really good wax or paint sealant and start doing that for the winter. Whatever you do, you'll have to do again in 30 days for the best results. So the paint is protected. Then you have all winter to save save save!!!!
  23. Really, it was no problem. I hope lots of people come to my thread and get great ideas and put the info together and modify their car. Remember, it's just another IS 300 until you make it your own. The car will settle in about a week or so. You'll gert your full inch, maybe a quarter more. The Eibachs use a progressive coil tech. It's like I try to tell everyone, stock is so middle of the road, mid grade stuff, you just don't realize. The springs you just put on for 300 bucks is 5 times better than stock springs. But remember later on, you have lower springs and not a full performance suspension. Be careful when you decide on the go fast stuff. Hard accelerations, hard braking and hard turning will take their toll very quickly. So you'll need to upgrade the shocks, or you'll over stress the springs and "tink". whatever works man. The results are all that matter. Probably would have been a little easier, but your done now!!!! How could you not have a 5? what is wrong with you? I'm shaking my head as I'm typing this. no 5 mm. NO 5 MM!!! I hope youv'e already gone or are going very soon to the store to correct that deficiency. And that you have goone through the rest of the required tool manifest and noted any other "voids" so this never happens again. I'm so kidding with ya. My dad and I once pulled the heads off his mustang to redo the valves, got allthe way thru to realize that we had no torque wrench. ( Jeff had barrowed it the week before, and the other one was crap.) This normally wouldn't be a big deal, accept that he lives an hour from the nearest store that carries tools. It was 9:30 at night, we had to be at the track at 8 in the morning!!! So we ended up going the next morning and getting a new torque wrench and I put the valves and heads back together in the trailer as he drove to the track. Once we got there, he helped finish. Not a fun morning!!! Do you know how hard it is to torque down rocker arms and make sure everything is correct with the light bouncing all over the place and everything moving around and stuff?? the things we do for love.
