  1. :(My 98 LX470, after 6 years of reliable service to me, is playing with me... I began to notice some rust bubbling around the windshield last year; since worsened, but not yet broken through. My wife began to notice ~3 months ago water pouring from the upper center light/sunroof control, between the windshield and the sunroof, upon hitting the brakes or turning a corner, after sitting in the rain. I assumed it to be due to a lack of windshield seal from the corrosion or a leaky sunroof... never got a chance to investigate further. Poor thing carries a towel with her and holds it up there when she drives away after rainy weather. In any case, over the past few weeks she has noticed that, suddenly, without warning, the stereo would stop producing audio, then turn back on or off again randomly...on for a few days, then off... When not working, audible sound can be heard at a low volume if the volume is cranked all the way to full volume...almost like a line level volume...changes appropriately with the station/cd/etc. Over the past number of days, the heater/AC blower stopped working...sometimes comes on, sometimes doesn't, sometimes turns on or off while you're driving. Fortunately, enough heat passes through the vents to keep you warm and windshield relatively clear in this cold western NY weather. All the controls work fine (like the radio), but the blower is not running. I only hear a little electrical noise coming from in the dash when I ask the blower to turn on...it stops when you push "off" on the heater control. My wife believes there is a connection between the timing of the 2 things going on and off...and a connection with the water leak as well. I haven't been able to verify this to determine the truth. PLEASE, any thoughts would be helpful. I'd at least like to know a place to start in looking into this. Thank you kindly. Mike
  2. I'm having a problem with my 98 LX470. Went outside to go to church Sunday morning and found the rear completely jacked up. I have the Lexus service manuals and decided to remove the rear height control sensor. The local Lexus delaer believes it to be the problem after speaking with him. I unfortunately broke the linkage nut (rusted) upon removing it. I tested the sensor as per the manual and it seems to give voltages high to low opposite what the manual says it should do...but the sensor (potentiometer) does change voltages produced. The highest position does not produce as high a voltage as the manual says it should. I thought I would try to trick it and ny-tied the armature to the middle position and stuck it back into the trunk, but this seemed only to work for 1/10 mile, before the truck rasied back up. The trunk does raise and lower as the armature is put into different positions....I don't know what to do! Any thoughts?
  3. If you log onto lexus.com and register your vehicle (free) it will provide you with an owners manual (via acrobat) or you can send a request to get one for free. If you don't want to do that here are some answers to your questions: 1. safety feature, if you're zooming down the freeway and you're in H, your center of gravity is too high, thus a potential rollover, L is used primarily to ease the egress for passengers and for loading purposes. If you want to stay in the selected mode, select your desired mode the turn "OFF" the automatic feature while in that mode. 2. In extreme situations, stuck in mud, snow etc. 3. If in N, there is no power to your wheels at all. H for higher speeds, L for lower speeds, climbing steep hills, towing. Hope this helps In my 2004 Low is so low you could only use for VERY slow speeds. Your transmission will click thru all gear quickly and you will be hitting a whopping 20mph. As far as raising and lowering the body, I find no way to turn off this funtion. I do not think the 2004 will allow you to leave it in other than medium height over a certin speed. I'M NEW!!! HOW DO I POST???
