  1. i saw that one, but i dont know if the same instructions and parts will work on a 2nd generation es300. those instructions are for a 3rd gen. :(
  2. the climate control LCD backlight or whatever on my 96 lexus is dying and i wanna fix it. i've seen the threads where ppl replace them on 97's, but i figured it would be a different process with different part numbers for a 1996. are there any detailed instructions for 2nd gen, 92-96 es300? i'd really appreciate it. thanks!
  3. do you guys have any recommendations on places to order parts from online? or any good brands for brake pads/rotors and struts/springs? and do you guys have any suggestions on suspension parts that will give me the smoothest ride? thanks a lot for all the replies again.
  4. i have a 96 es300 and i hear wind when driving above 45+ mph too, right by the driver side mirror. but i dont wanna spend lots of moolah having the dealer fix it. i suppose a toyota dealer would be much cheaper than a lexus dealer tho.
  5. thanks for the replies. about how much does it usually cost for a realignment?
  6. first off, brakes. i dont know much them, and therefore dont know if the stock brakes are disc or drum or both. is replacing them something better left to the dealer or midas, or is it something i can do myself like changing the oil? and where's the best place to buy the parts? and now shocks. i dont know anything about shocks either, but i didn't want to just go to the dealer and pay loads of money when i can save lots of money. anyways, the reason why im wanting(or thinking, actually) of replacing them is because when i drive, and go over bumps, it sounds like dried out plastic crunching. and the ride isn't so smooth as other lexus' that i have ridden in. the car seems to...bounce a lot. it doesn't bump like a small compact, it bounces, a lot. sometimes i get scared that the wheel well is gonna hit and rub on the tires cuz it bounces so much. so im thinking its the shocks, but as said earlier, i dont know much so it could just be as simple as replacing the tires. do you guys think its something to replace the shocks over? if so, can i do it myself? where should i buy parts at? thanks for your input. :D
  7. i went to advanced auto parts and it came up with codes that i think are p101, p103, and p105. which he said were cylinder misfires for cylinders 1, 3, and 5. he said i might wanna replace the spark plugs and cables(or whatever he called them). does that sound right?
  8. k&n filters dont filter quite as well as generic filters? what?
  9. should i get the 92-96 camry manual for a 96 es300?
  10. i should also note that while the rpms were fluctuating, i could feel the steering column vibrate and the gas pedal. now the steering column only vibrates a lil bit at highway speeds sometimes. thanks for input guys.
  11. last thursday san antonio got drenched with like 4" of rain in one hour. anyways i was on my way home home as it started, and i had to drive thru some water. wasn't that deep, probly up to the fog lights, but i was going about 20-30mph thru it for like a 500 foot stretch. anyways, as i was approaching home, my car starting acting wierd. the revs would go up and down. like they would drop from 2k to 1k back to 2k back to 1k. then the check engine light came on. i got home fine and i let the car sit for the rest of the day. car's been acting normally since then, but im still kinda scared that something might be wrong. i dunno if i got water in the engine or what. if i did, will it hurt my engine a lot? how much does it normally cost to get this check engine light checked out?
  12. look in your manual and see what it says.
  13. i cant seem to find any. but i found a hayne's manual that services 1992-2002. but i really want that chilton's manual if there is one. :(
  14. I really wanna put a new stereo in my 96 es300, but I think i wanna put that money towards engine maintenance instead. What all does an overhaul and tune-up entail and how much do they typically cost? How much can the average joe do by himself? I'd rather do as much as i can by myself to save money, if its practical.

  16. As soon as I sell my entertainment center, the wife will sign the permissions slip for a new stereo in the car. I'm looking at crutchfield and they've got nice ones with nice warranties, and seems like all parts required to install, but they're usually like $30-$60 more expensive than Newegg. Anyways, I'm looking for suggestions for a stereo with: *mp3, wma, etc playback capability *wireless remote *xm radio ready without the need for a stupid adapter kit for the tuner to work with the radio *one of those displays that can show more than 2 8-character lines *can control the 6disc cd changer *under ~$300 Any suggestions on stereos or online shops will be super appreciated. :D
  17. sweet sweet sweet. its almost time for my tires to get the boot scoot, so hopefully this will help with vibes in the gas pedal. thanks.
  18. Dude nobody knows why we are getting pedal vibrationg while driving i know im just hoping that maybe someone thats new to the forum might see this topic and know the answer. :(
  19. so anyone know why i would feel vibrations in my gas pedal?
  20. Nah, its in the accelerator pedal that i feel the vibes.
  21. I'm feeling the vibes too when I drive at 35+ mph. I wanna take it in to get inspected, but dont want to pay money just to find out what it is.
