  1. I think there are other companies/products out that already offer this. I forget the name, "blue" something? $3-400. They pull out your console and probably splice some wires to install a module. Supposed to offer ipod compatibility, as well as a couple other things.
  2. Don't know, but maybe you can borrow someone's disc to see if that could be the problem? I think my "gen" is different from yours...
  3. I think the new Nav 9.1 disc should be about $200. http://www.sewellpartsonline.com/import/Na...tion_chart.html I think you can also find a copy from someone for much less. GL
  4. Hi, Anyone have a copy of this? Please let me know via email. I live in Orange County, CA. hoangse@hotmail.com Thanks
  5. Lexus of Cerritos, 05 LX470, 30k service, about $ 461 + tax. They seem to be missing the folowing from their service: - re-packing front bearings - lube driveshaft What they did do: - oil & filter - air & a/c filter - brake flush - added engine & fuel conditioner - rotates tires - balanced front tires - inspected brakes & tires You can't beat the cost for a Lexus dealer, but should I insist they repack the front bearings? I don't off-road, but it is specified in the manual. If I do insist on this or anything else, how much more should I expect them to charge? I don't have the manual in front of me, but I thought there were more things that were supposed to be done at the 30k service. Thanks guys
  6. Peter, the Lexus shop foreman from my previous story, gave me a call back. He says the 285 will fit, but the wider tires may cause the truck to want to sway. Just an FYI for other people. I'm going to stick with stock size. These are extremely hard tires to find in stock. You have to order these and wait for shipment. Really sucks!
  7. Stock = 275/60-18 Anyone know if 285/60-18 will also fit? Will it affect the 4WD system in any way? How about turning, etc.? TIA
  8. I just brought my 05 Lx into the dealer to have them check out the wind noise and ask what the other sound I heard was when I applied the brakes. I had a great experience. Peter Nguyen, the Shop Foreman, was more than I expected. Knowledgeable, friendly, and extremely helpful. He spent 30-45 minutes test driving the car with me and also explained other details/nuances of this particular vehicle. 1) Wind Noise: had to take it on the freeway in order to get strong enough cross-winds, but he heard it 2 different times. He's never heard it before. We think it could be loose moluding on top of the driver side. The black moulding is a little loose so maybe the crosswinds are getting under it and making the strange noises. I don't think the noise has to do with speed of the vehicle, but more the speed of the crosswinds hitting the windshield. 2) Sounds when brakes are applied: I guess the LX has a brake system that accumulates brake fluid and releases it. He got it to make the sounds when he pulled over and applied the brakes 4-5 times. He explained it, but I forgot the particulars. Anyway, all working as planned. More info: Peter has worked 20 years in the industry, for Honda, Acura, and someone else. Lexus for 10 years. He says Lexus is the best for its support. (Honda & Acura don't come close, which surprised me.) One case: in 2006, a customer brought in a '92 SC. There was a problem a Lexus field engineer couldn't figure out. Eventually 5 different field engineers looked at the vehicle at different times, until finally all 5 came together and found the problem and a solution. This for an old, non-warrantied, vehicle. Great stuff, I thought. Just thought I'd share my experience/story.
  9. My 05 Lx470 used to make this howling noise at freeway speeds of about 60-70mph. I drove it today (it's my wife's car) and took it up to 70-80mph and didn't hear the noise. Isn't that strange? The noise wouldn't just go away, would it? I may still bring it to the dealer to check out. Also going to have them check out a strnge noise that you hear sometimes when you brake. It's not the pad or rotors, but it sounds like a "system" is turned on sometimes when you brake. Turns on for a few seconds, then off, but nothing bad seems to happen. Just weird.
  10. i have an 05 with less than 30k miles. i was quoted between 2600-2900 for the extended warranty. they gave me a range because they said they might give me a discount. once i went over 30k miles, the cost would be higher. hth
  11. Hey Guys, Did a few searches and couldn't find anything related to my questions. 1) Has anyone tried installing LCD screens in their headrests? Was thinking about something for the kids. I don't have NAV so some of the mods mentioned wouldn't help me. Maybe I could go the cheap route and strap a portable DVD player to the center arm rest... 2) Anyone know how to disable the automatic movement of the steering column whenever you stop the car and pull out the keys? Or do I have to go the Dealer to get that done? Mine still works, although it's a little noisy, squeaky, but I really don't need that capability. I've had the motor die out on my '94 SC, so I don't want to use it unless I really want to. Thanks again.
  12. Thanks again for all the helpful posts on this site. The car is great, 75k miles, fully serviced at the Dealer with all paperwork. Black on black. Just noticed that I know have 3 Lexus's (Lexii ?). I didn't consciously make that decision, but it worked out like that. I guess I'm a Lexus man. Coming up on 75k service and the dealer wants $150-350. $150 is just oil change, rotate tires, check brakes. $350 includes ATF flush. I have an independent mechanic that I've taken my other cars to. I feel bad taking a car that has full documentation to an indy, but really... these prices are ridiculous and I'm not going to sell thae car for a long time. (My 94 sc400 has 183k miles and always serviced at my mechanic.) Am I right?
  13. This seller says he knows the 1st owner of this car. The 1st owner was in an accident - the rear Driver-side door was hit and replaced by the Dealer. It was sent to the auction by the Dealer, where it was purchased by this person. I'm just trying to see if anything sounds fishy or suspect about this car or seller. I have a carfax and autocheck on the vehicle which says, accident 4/2006, auction 7/2006, new owner 11/2006. Clean title. The seller says the door didn't have to be replaced, but his friend demanded his insurance to replace the door. Then the friend, or Dealer?, tried to auction the car. Then this person bought it. I'm going to go look at it, but anything about this story sound strange to you?
