  1. I need to replace my passenger sideview mirror assembly. I am wondering whether anyone has seen a tutorial video or photos on it. Also, what level of difficulty? The Lexus part is #8791060E30 (MIRROR ASSEMBLY, OUTER REAR VIEW, (RH - RIGHT / PASSENGER SIDE)). It's about $500 at Sewell Lexus through the club discount. I'd imagine a dealer would charge at least $300 to install. I'd rather do it myself. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...JOHN
  2. I bought a master key for my 2004 GX470 from SpareCarKeys.com: http://www.sparecarkeys.com Their phone number is: 866-350-4199 The cost for the master key: $120 + $6 shipping There is a possibility that you may need to have Lexus program it. My dealer charged $25. They will send you directions to do it yourself. But, it didn't work for me. The key is as good as a new one from Lexus except it doesn't have the gold plating "L" on the outside.
  3. I brought it into the Lexus Dealership who determined that the "Combination Meter" was not working properly. The tech says he has seen this happen on several GX470's in the past. But, moreso, on older LS400's (1990, 1992, etc). The cost of repair was $787 for the part and another $110 for labor. It takes a few days to get the part in. Not something they have at the shop. Also, they need to program your mileage into the new meter.
  4. On my 2004 GX470, you need to tap the DVD button in the upper right corner instead of the VOLUME as per this post. Not sure if that is different on the 2006 model that he has. Also, this override can only be done when the car is stopped. Otherwise, the DVD is "greyed-out".
  5. I checked using an OBDII scanner. No issues came up. I called four Lexus dealerships. None ever heard of this happening. Yesterday, the Speedometer worked for a 25 mile trip across town. Then, on the way back, it didn't work. Same thing happened today. Kind of scary if even Lexus doesn't have a clue.

  7. I had the battery on my GX470 (2004) changed. Now, the speedometer is not working. The odometer works. The RPM needle works. The hot/cold gauge works. The fuel gauge works. Everything else in the car works. The speedometer needle does not move. At times, it seems a little jumpy. But, it does not move off of zero MPH. I disconnected and reconnected the battery again. But, nothing changed. One time when I started the car, the RPM needle did not move up. Then, it jumped up all of a sudden. I called two Lexus service centers and neither one had a clue. They both said, "bring it in." I thought it might just be a fuse. But, I cannot figure out which fuse it would be. None of the ones under the dash nor under the hood say anything about 'speedometer'. Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks.
  8. When you come to a stop, it feels as though a car hit your backend. It doesn't always happen at every stop, but it is just irritating and unsettling. What you have experienced is probably what the "clunk". Keep driving it for a few weeks to see if it is something that bothers you.
  9. If you make enough noise about it, you can get it done for nothing....as it should be. It's been a known issue with this vehicle and Lexus should have fixed it permanently as soon as they knew it. But, they say because it is not a safety issue, they will only fix it if a customer complains and if it is still under the 50,000 warranty. You will see on the newest TSB that part of this service is covered to 70,000 miles and part only until 50,000 miles. Even my Lexus dealership did not know that part of it was covered under the 70,000 mile drivetrain warranty. I had to tell them to check the latest TSB. In the end, I got the whole thing done for nothing on my 2004 GX470 with over 60,000 miles. The newest TSB is April 2006. If anyone wants a copy of it, PM me with your email address and I will email you a PDF of it.
  10. Do you have an answer for your question? I am reading all of the emails posted in this forum before I buy a 2007 GX470. I want to make sure the 2007 don't have the so called "Clunk" bug. According to what I have been told by a couple dealers, Lexus has not really fixed this problem yet. They are still using some of the same Driveshaft and Control Arm Assmeblies and won't completely change over until they redesign the vehicle in a couple years. They will fix the problem with redesigned assemblies if customers complain about it and it is still under the 50,000 mile warranty. But, only if the customer complains. The driveshaft is covered until 70,000. However, not the Control Arms. For a company like Lexus, this is pathetic. I have owned nothing but Lexus vehicles for the past 15 years. This is very disappointing. I just bought a 2004 GX470, but am told that I will have to pay to fix this issue because it has more than 50,000 miles on it. One dealer told me the price would be $2500-$2600 for the complete fix. That's absurd.
  11. I have not yet seen the actual TSB. But, understand there are two of them related to the CLUNK. My '04 is out of warranty (64k miles). If I have to pay for this myself, about how much will it cost?
