  1. +35 is very far off from stock, you may want to reconsider as this will affect the way the car behaves.
  2. AWJ, the 3330's are more commonly used, but if you look at the 6097 it's closer to what Toyota meant to be used in there, but copper. Here's the specs on the 6097 aka BKR7E - heat range 7, V-grooved 1.5mm dia electrode, .0315 pregap. I don't have enough time on them to give you a critique' AJ, we went thru three sets of plugs just in tuning before we even pulled it out of the shop, wanted to make sure they were clean and also wanted to keep monitoring them, but not fun when you have to yank the t-body every time.
  3. Now that is impressive. I have the Denso Iridiums (IK20 if I remember) in my SC4...didn't notice a difference, but then again the oe Platinums are of a good design and there was not a 'need' for a better plug like there would be in a FI car. I use NGK 6097's for that.
  4. Does the entire cluster go out or just sections of the needles? Also, don't take this the wrong way, but you should really work on that grammar....you'll find you get more responses to your thread when you are concise and keep it tight.
  5. Yeah, nice to see Brian finally got his whip featured, it's for sale for a very reasonable number too. Tommy Bahn from SF was also in there with his mkiv, good issue.
  6. AJ, the dual distributor setup in the SC4 has no means to physically alter the position of the distributors so as to effect timing !Removed! or advance, it is all controlled by the computer. The way to go with a big hit on an SC4 is to use a standalone. Calvin, i'm using the A341E (TT transmission), it's very similar to the A340E that came in 92-97 SC300's and non-turbo Supras but has a completely different strategy for managing line pressure. I'll be using a shift kit of sorts which I have but haven't installed yet, the unit will be built up as needed but first I want to get some seat time to determine how much I like the car, that'll determine how much more money I put into it basically. Let's not hijack meNmyMYbabeRIDElexes' thread. - Jon
  7. Stinks when you try to correct someone and end up gettting corrected yourself, I think you meant nitrous not nitris. Call it whatever you want though....juice, spray, the hit, the shot, the bottle, etc.... Calvin, I wrap a whole bunch of duct tape around it....
  8. The 1UZ in your SC4 will take a nice size hit, but i'd recommend fuel system upgrades if you think there's any possibility of jetting it higher than 75hp in the future. A MKIII Supra Turbo pump will drop right in your tank if you tweak the sender. Also, since there's no mechanical means to !Removed! the ignition timing on these motors, you'll have to be carefull, but it's been done with alot more than a 75-shot, as for the RX, wanted to do the same to mine but she just would not have it. I wouldn't want to stress the V6 all too much though, you may want to just concentrate on the SC.
  9. That intake was built by Toyomoto. The turbo is a T-63.
  10. Usually pretty expensive to fix them, i'll let you know if I spot one for sale.
  11. Corrosion stuffs, heh. Since you said plug 7 i'm assuming you mean an SC400, pretty hard to get water into the plug valleys, you can shoot a hose right at it (not that you should) and not get the plugs wet. Did you have the covers off and wash the engine? Should be dry as a bone in there. Anyway, long as the threads in the head are okay then it's no big deal, but yeah I have to reiterate what AWJ said even though I hate to do that...make sure nothing gets in that plug hole man. Check everything out again after a few miles/days of driving on the new plugs.
  12. Pioneer, why are you yelling? Just slide over to the left and ease off that caps lock bro. The gentleman that owns SSI is very clever and has a couple of good guys working for him, he's found solutions to hard problems before, give him a call and see if there's anything he can do, his name is Jimmy.
  13. 97-00 SC300's and SC400's are identical on the exterior, other than the emblems of course. The kaminari skirts are almost non-existent, like the WALD, IMO you'd be better of with factory skirts, just remember you also need the 97+ lower door mouldings if you want it to look right.
  14. This thread in particular will be very helpful to new owners and potential ones, first here's a few things that might help; TEN SC300/400 WEAR ITEMS 1) PS pump can go bad and can also leak fluid onto the alternator which is right below it and take that out as well. 2) Control arm bushings 3) Gauge cluster needle illumination 4) Climate control LCD display 5) Torque converter weakness 6) Window regulator 7) Headlamp fogging/yellowing 8) Heater control valve 9) CD changer skipping 10) The SC is also very sensitive to wheel+tyre balance/pressure/offset issues as for mine... 1995 SC400 The local Lexus dealer here consists of a bunch of incompetent rip-off artists and hacks, therefore I only use them for things which are warranty-related, first time I brought it to them for something they gave me the impression they knew nothing about the car short of plugging a scan tool into the diagnostic port. They don't even change the fuel filter when a car comes in for service, because the fittings are sensitive to stripping, 125k mile LS400 comes in and they'll leave the oe filter in there. They weren't even using Dex-Cool for awhile, I tried to explain to them that the Boric acid in green coolant can create a corrosive condition in the alum head (and block in the SC4), they couldn't possibly have given less of a crap. I try to do everything myself when time allows. I've had this car for years and it has never let me down, *knocking wood* Never had a part fail but i've replace both motor and trans mounts which I felt were becoming weak. Brakes are also freaky good on this one, stops about as good as the TT brakes on my other one. Terrible in the snow, even with a load of kitty litter in the boot. As far as mods, 2K front conversion, system, alarm, rims, basic stuff...maybe eight grand in extras. 1999 SC300-T Shortly after I bought it I sent it to the above Lexus dealer under warranty b/c it wasn't running right, I felt there was some water in the coil pack tray and told them to clean it out and install a set of plugs while they were in there. They told me the head gasket was blown, that it wasn't covered by Lexus warranty (!!), and that it would be over a grand. I told them to throw a set of plugs in and give me my whip back before I started kicking teeth in. It's so smooth you couldn't even tell it's running, and the six with the vvt-i is just about as quick as the four litre and more responsive. Jay Leno says BMW builds the best inline six, makes me wonder if he needs a 2JZ in his warehouse. Long story short, never broke anything until I turbocharged it . As far as mods sk, I won't get started on that.....after the new motor i'll be into it for well over $40k and still have several things left to do, hoping to finish before I hit $50k. 2002 RX300 AWD Aah, the dealer again! My fiancee and her father decided to do this on their own and turned down my help, regardless of my connections. Matter of fact, they didn't even take my one biggest piece of advice, don't go to the above dealer! They proceeded to walk in and choose an RX off the lot, got absolutely raped on the payment, they didn't even detail it for delivery, filthy, grease on the leather, etc. Low and behold she takes it home and I fine-tooth it, and discover it had been hit in the back and repainted, and the crappy work was already starting to show, brand new car folks. Needless to say the dealer did nothing to make this right other than repainting the bumper cover again, didn't even bother to give an excuse, and my fiancee and her father wouldn't let me settle this NY-style, so that's it. We've had it for I guess about 18 months now, no problems whatsoever other than fixing a loose exhaust a couple days ago, drives smoother than my coupes, peppy, and is great in the white stuff. Not a single mod, she says if I put rims on it she'll curb every one of 'em :) . So who's the dealer? Lexus of Massapequa
  15. UCF3...dunno, but i've tried both my SC3 and SC4 in the snow and they were reeaal bad, with 18's you can't really get out of the driveway, but even on 16" GT+4's and plenty of ballast it was very challenging, but keeping it moving was the key, if I stopped where there was an incline (of course) or any kind of ice I was stuck.
  16. Drove mine in the heavy snow we had for the past couple days...even with all seasons and plenty of kitty litter in the boot....still terrible. Gonna build me a lifted up anti-terrorist river-wading post-apocolyptic crushmobile for next winter :) Lexus powered of course... :D
  17. I think even an eighteen rides acceptably on the SC, but really any 17" IS, GS, or mkiv wheel will greatly improve the look and handling of the car IMO. johnny, when did the SC3/4 ever come with Pilots or Potenza's?
  18. xoom, the '00 has 40 more hp, it has the VVT-i motor, this is why it's faster, along with the 5speed automatic. There were many many other changes made to the coupe though...body, wheels, glass, instrumentation, leather, steering wheel, shifter, climate ctrl, sound system, etc, etc. Also, the 2K's are rare, not too many made, you should strongly consider it, plus it's my favourite colour :) .
  19. Probably the more common choice is the JL IB4, but infinite baffle setups IMO have some inherent weaknesses, and it won't handle a ton of power. Also, the IB4 is 8-ohm so you should consider how much power you will realistically be producing for it, not that I would bridge any good size amp into a free air anyway, you just can't control cone excursion. The JL and it's definitely better than the oe subs in the standard and premium systems, but may not be enough for some. Pioneer also has a free air that ppl have used, there's one or two more but I don't know anyone who's tried them in the SC, you have to also be mindfull of clearance between the bottom of the magnet structure and the top of the fuel tank in the coupe, but something like the JL will still leave you with 20+ mm of room, more than enough.
