  1. bean, links to aftermarket vendors are fine, but we tend to frown upon direct links to other Lexus enthusiast sites. I'm sure you understand, sorry to have to edit you. - Jon
  2. The 1JZ, 2JZ-GE, and 2JZ-GTE can all make 400+ whp reliably, if it's TT internals you want then you can swap the rods and pistons into your GE block, or just buy a new TT short block from Toyota, it's the best bang for the buck out there.
  3. Definitely turbo the 2JZ, easy to make 400+ hp on stock bottom end, stock cams, stock intake, and a smallish turbo. Parts availability alone make the 1JZ a bad idea, not to mention that many guys on the other side of the pond use the 2JZ short block and make a 1.5J, it is an additional half litre of displacement after all.
  4. You can remove the lamp, heat it, pry the two halves apart, clean and polish inside and out, and re-seal. Or, buck up and buy a new lamp unless someone has a condensation-free used one. I've done the restoration more than once, lots of fun.
  5. Much better...is this for front only or all around? Then we can decide on tyres.
  6. Not to question your expertise in the matter, but :D - are you sure the '98+ sc300s have the A341E automatic transmission? From what I read around the internet, and a few other people, the A340E (the same one in the NA Supra) is used on all sc300. I hope I'm wrong and your right, cause I want to turbo my '98 sc300, and having a tranny that can handle the additional power would be great. Is there really a big difference between the A340E and A341E? Oh here's a link that list the sc300 automatic transmission. I know the LS400, SC400, and SupraTT uses the A341E. http://www.rebuilt-auto-transmissions.com/...id=465&l_make2= napalm, yeah the A341E came in '98-00 SC3's instead of the A340E...as for mine it's definitely the 341, I serviced it. To answer your question, the main difference between the two is the strategy for managing line pressure. bean, i'm using an HKS Type S, SP has made 839 rwhp with one, should be plenty for you, but most IC's will fit behind the bumper, incl Trust 3 and 4 core units. JBE fabbed 3" IC piping for me. As for what boost, the Tial spring we fitted should provide around 8 lbs on the gate alone (had a 1.1 bar hks spring in before), the low boost setting will probably be 15-17 psi, the hi setting will probably be 21 psi for now. Sad, thx...I have more plans for it (very stiff competition around here), but I need to take some time to plan my wedding, so the rest will be on the DL for a bit. Just need to teach this one local DSM guy a lesson first... :) - Jon
  7. Thanks guys. Lexual, according to what I added up the LOC garage it's $29k in mods, purchased the car for around $20k so i'm almost at $50k. Hadn't planned on spending that much, but who does. jzz30, have a few hundred more miles to drive and more tuning to do before I can dyno, i'm in no rush right now. UCF3, thx, something tells me my fiancee wouldn't agree... AWJ, hopefully i'll have everything dialed-in in time to make some runs when e-town opens, but i'll probably do some test n' tune sessions at the Hamptons first. The A341E automatic from the TT Supra comes in all '98-00 SC3's to handle the additional low-end of the vvt-i motor, didn't build it up, just adding a shift kit of sorts, which isn't done yet (maybe tomorrow). As for the e-manage, we do have one problem left to sort out which we suspect may be mgt-related, once that's taken care of we can finish tuning (again, maybe tomorrow). No need trying to match brother, your whip is as special as mine IMO, now we're both broke...just get your bluegrass butt up here so you can go for a ride. As for keeping one around, i'm definitely selling the red one....still undecided on this one, i'll let you know after I drive it on the hi boost setting :) . I'll keep you guys posted.

  9. Depends on width, but in general +40 to 45.
  10. Thought a couple of you might be interested, we finished up installing the new short block and my coupe is back on the road.
  11. Spacers will only make it worse...sorry to burst your bubble but like I said return them if you can, just watching out for ya.
  12. Have your mechanic drop the pan and flush out the metal filter as well. Make sure he uses only Toyota T-IV if it's an SC4 or 98-up SC3, otherwise it's Dexron III. If the problem persists it's possible the converter is weak, it can happen in these cars.
  13. Survive six rounds with me, standard initiation...
  14. Return them if you can, +35 is a bit too low an offset for these cars.
  15. ...and the other with CVA/DVD/EBC/TT and custom mounting structure and trim bezel.
  16. Will your shop be manufacturing the fenders and doors or will they be pieces from GTP?
  17. If there's any chance there is coolant and/or water in the bores, do not crank the motor over, you'll have to clear it first. Water does not like to compress within a fixed space....as the piston travels up and down inside a particular cylinder approaching TDC and BDC, it will hit this water (if there's enough of it) and 'hydro-lock'....something has to give, usually it's a rod but there's all manner of expensive parts you can grenade. Fix what caused the problem in the first place (You got coolant in the bores from changing the starter??), clear the motor, then start it up and check that everything is kosher.
  18. So we all agree that no offense was intended by anyone. I think that if Civic owners have more of a propensity to do things like cut springs it's simply because it's a younger demographic and they have less experience re: what and what not to do, you can't blame them for that, guys like BlackSC4 are clever enough to post and check first. The only goal here is to stop anyone from cutting coil springs, which is unsafe and produces unpredictable results. rabidus you may have gotten a little heavy with the drama but we all get you. P.S. - I do think i'm better, but not because of my Lexi....
  19. I think maybe he just had Nissan on his mind....i.e. VG30DETT twin turbo motor from a Z32, but whatever. Twin, you should shrink that sig pic a bunch though.
  20. Hites, a wideband is an A/F meter, you wouldn't need to buy it twice. You could save yourself some cash by just buying the AFC and having a competent shop tune it with a WB, then don't touch the settings yourself.
  21. UCF3, what do you mean Supra GTE's are not twin turbo? Sure they are. Also he said he's using stock mkiv twins and not a single, which are capable of the 450 hp he claims, but I highly doubt he's doing it through an automatic, sounds like a kid wrote the ad....I wouldn't give it a second thought. bean, 1JZ and 2JZ heads and blocks fit each other.
