  1. I'm all for it....what did we go to Iraq for anyway?
  2. 2lexii, no need to shout. You'd also do better with your query in the LX forums. bully, you've had better luck w/ PPG than I.
  3. I've replaced the windshields in both my SC's, I found that the PPG had a good amount of distortion on the pass side and was very unhappy with it. The factory windshield is pricey but the quality will of course be oem, there are good aftermarket replacements though. Also, you should know that a claim on a windshield can actually be considered a full claim as if it were some type of an accident....your ins company might put it on your record as an incident, which will not have a big impact but can raise the amount of your policy if you have another 'incident.' Seems stupid but that's the case.
  4. call up a couple of jdm engine shops and ask them for a 93-97 2jz-ge engine block from a supra or lexus gs300. Careful, their '97 is very different...
  5. Hope everything's fine bro. Em, that's pretty funny coming from someone who hasn't seen their SC yet in '04
  6. I remember awhile back there was a buzz that Lexus was going to offer a fixed hardtop SC with a six in it for around $40k, quite sure that's not happening, not aware of any other SC derivatives they have planned.
  7. Brian should vig you out for the free advert....
  8. Yeah, it's wise not to make a decision until you find out what the dmg was, if that's possible.
  9. Like everyone said have it clay'd, but don't be afraid to have it wetsanded if it's necessary...the oe clearcoat is very thick and there's plenty of material there for a competent person to work with. As sadistic said it will also remove any orange peel and imperfections, and there will be no swirls after if it is polished properly, just smooth glassy paint, i've done it plenty of times. Those idiots really did screw you though, that low mlg you don't want to have to do anything to it, hope they do the right thing for you. - Jon
  10. Brian at Crower could also probably regrind the cams. I would do that, sleeve the block and use a 4.7 Tundra crank, and a pair of internally gated T25's down near the oil pan at the sides of the block.... :) . Now that's a fun coupe. Seriously, short of forced induction, juice, or increased displacement...there's not much to be gained on the eight, the intake/exhaust/ignition/valvetrain/mgt are very well engineered from the factory.
  11. All of this depends on how much you've lowered the car if at all, but i'll give you a blanket answer based on near stock height. 17x10 with a 275-40, you'll need an offset around +43 to +45 which is available from several mfrs, going to a 285-series will require some trimming or rolling of the inner fender unless offset is mid forties to plus fifty.
  12. I agree with AWJ, you could adapt it if you wanted to but the question would be if it's worth it. The MX system will flow to 600hp, so if that lies within your goals and you can find a shop willing to do the labour for a reasonable rate then it sounds like it would work out. The '97 exhaust is the same, but the '98-up SC3 exhaust is different, better manifold, more restrictive exhaust. The layout is essentially the same though in terms of the cat-back. The SC4 exhaust is also different, nice stainless constuction and there are some differences in the layout. Should be pretty reasonable to have a local shop fab a system up for you, plus then you get your choice of mufflers.
  13. Few wheels are available with an offset that will allow you to run anything larger than a 265 or 275 on the rear of an SC, but they are available. For proper fitment of 275-40-17 you should stick with an offset above +40.
  14. Let me throw a few things your way... - Not gonna be cheap, budget properly or all you'll get is hair loss. - Feasible to do the swap in your garage if you have the proper tools, knowledge, and patience, but with the gte you'll have to do the entire harness and all the peripherals (all factory Lexus equipment will still function if done properly), you may want to consider going NA-T, which will retain your oe NA head and harness. This decision depends on your power goals. - There is no JDM 5speed GTE, they all have the Getrag or the A341E, so if it must be stick you can get a 5spd SC3 and use that trans with the GTE (same as the Supra NA 5spd), that box is good to around 400+ rwhp depending on how you drive it, at 450 you'll have an issue. You can also get a 5spd or auto SC3 and swap in a GTE with Getrag, but you'll not only need a custom driveshaft, you'll need the 6spd differential and left axle...otherwise first gear will be annoyingly short. - I see you mentioned VVT-i. To be honest with you, it does greatly complicate things, in my case it forced me to use an engine mgt system which was supposed to be compatible and in the end was not, and blew two motors violently...one of them a brand new 2JZ-GTE from Toyota. The benefits are clear, especially on a turbo car, but if all you want is hp then it's probably not worth the trouble. If what you do want is monster torque and responsiveness, then vvt-i will deliver. The GS that SP just finished generated 600 rwtq with a little turbo, that's Viper/E55-crushing torque with super fast spool, but your only option with the variable valve timing is to go standalone, or play around with a Valcon controller. Hope that gives you some clarity, good luck.
  15. IMO the ride w/ 18's is still very acceptable, and that's on NY roads. Nothing like the nice cushy 16" factory setup though.
  16. Consider that a 200k mi car will still have that much on the trans, differential, and everything else regardless of swapping in a fresh motor. If you want a low-mile motor it's better in the long run to just buy a low-mile car. That being said you need to first decide how much power you are looking for, you can go NA-T and keep the original head (with original GE short block or Supra TT short block), or do the full TT swap which is far more involved. Any reputable shop will be around ten grand plus for a turnkey package, a little more if you want to start off BPU.
  17. New motor blew apart yesterday and in the process did something that could have killed me, so after a massive financial loss this project is officially OVER.
  18. Also, simple as it is...if you've got the factory phone it's possible to have the phone on which will kill sound to all but one spkr, a few ppl have had this happen and thought it was the amp. As for corrosion on the wires to the amp, that area is sealed pretty well, that shouldn't occur unless the car has been hit back there and repaired without maintaining the integrity of the seals where the body glue lays at the joints. If that's the problem you'll know as soon as you get in there, as for the amp, these are pretty robust (unless it gets wet), they seldom fail but it happens. It's possible to blow the oe paper cone 4" spkrs, but all at once isn't too likely and would have to be from a large aftermarket amp.
  19. I'm sure you'll have everything taken care of in no time. - Jon
  20. Your description sounds more like something from Adult Entertainment. If you blew the head gasket, it's very feasible you'll be able to change it, if the head isn't warped you'll be fine, take it to a machine shop and see if it needs a .0010 cleanup or anything. Hopefully you stopped driving immediately, from the amount of coolant you're combusting to make that white wall it should be towed to a shop or your garage, pistons love to try to compress water :) .
