  1. Hi, I am having the same problem all of a sudden this morning. I have a 95 LS400 w/ 98K, Had a surging idle, running rough, & the traction control light is blinking. Threatens to stall when I stop. I had a 91 LS before this one that had the same problem, I brought it to Lexus and they ran codes on it & said it was sensors, wouldn't say which ones. Quoted me big $ which I didn't have at the time so I took it home. Stopped on the way home & put Mobil gas in it and it started running fine for awhile, Had been using shell. Did some research on this forum & someone said it might be the Idle control valve or another valve, don't remember the name but I was able to buy them used & refurbished on ebay. Never needed to put them in though as it ran fine as long as I used Mobil gas. I put Shell in once after that because I could'nt find a Mobil and started having the same problem so I figured it had something to do w/ the gas. I have had this one for almost 4 yrs w/ no problems except for a small seep in the power steering rack, which I just keep an eye on. That's why I was so surprised today that I had this problem again. It ties in somehow to the traction control too. The car had 54K when I bought it so I figure it may need a tune up. Probably never had one yet, so I will have to take it in if this doesn't go away. If anyone figures this out I would appreciate a clue. I put some heet in it & drove it for awhile. We'll see if it helps.
  2. so that would have nothing to do w/ the air not working?
  3. Hey There, I've been reading some posts from 2003 on this topic about getting a new lcd display. I'm wondering if anyone has any input to my problem Bought a used 91 for a good price. Unfortunately the air wasn't working. Took it to my repair guy. He messed around with it, put a new condenser in it. Still couldn't get it to work. Says its holding with no leaks but it won't blow cold. he thinks it has something to do with the control module which is blacked out. Has anyone run across this issue. I fear replacing just the lcd screen rebuild won't do it. Any one have any suggestions? appreciate it.
  4. Hi Everyone. I'm new to this club. I happened to find you when looking for info on the 91 LS400 I bought back in november with 127000 miles. I took it in to my guy, who is very knowledgable with lexus, had him do some maintainence, timing belt, lower ball joints, tune-up etc. The A/C wasn't working so I had him check it out. He said there was a leak at the expansion valve. I waited till after winter to bring it back to have him do that ($400.00 is this fair?). Needless to say, after installing he found the evaporator had many pinholes in it, another 250.00. After charging it up they found the cooling fans are not coming on and there is not enough pressure on the low side. Unfortunately, the control display is not working, from what I hear, this is common, so he thinks it may be in the control head. He sends it to Lexus, they send it out & rebuild it and send it back. Another $595.00, and he won't know if that is the problem till he puts in in. I have been reading other posts about this control head problem, that there may be somewhere to get this part cheaper? I am at a point where I'm not sure to continue with this. He claims the compressor is kicking on & seems to be working, that is the only reason I went ahead with this in the first place. It is no longer leaking, it just isn't cooling down & the fans don't kick on. Anybody have any ideas about this? Would it behoove me to go ahead & put a new control head in or could this turn into the money pit? Any other suggestions on what to check? It seems that he has been pretty thorough, but he can't guarantee this will fix the problem. I've read of so many other things that go wrong with the air on these older models, window fogging, etc. Any input would be appreciated. From reading some of the posts, it seems there are a lot of knowledgeable, do it yourself types that post here. I have found a lot of good information. Unfortunately, I wish I would have found you guys before I purchased. I would have known what to look for. Thanks in advance & keep up the good posts
