  1. Currently I drive a modded 05 Evo 8. I am planning on selling the Evo and get myself a IS 350 but not sure after finding some recall info about the IS350. Does anyone have any issue or concern as well?
  2. Sorry about the title. It's suppose to be a 99 not 00. I guess it doesn't really matter because it should fit either year model. :P
  3. Congrat. I miss driving my GS300. Great for long distance driving :D
  4. I don't need it anymore since I now owned an Evo. Let me know how much you're willing to pay for and I'll gladly shipped it to your door. It's still in good condition. I took it out because at that time, I bought an Alpine to replace it. If anyone's interested in it, shoot me an email or PM me. vang.yang@yahoo.com Thanks for looking
  5. toyoboy -- what i mean is that i couldn't afford two payments. My ex-GS300 payment is $378 and my new Evo is $448. I have other liabilities to pay too it's not just cars. Hopefully the Mod won't kick me out because I don't have one now, if they do, that's not cool <_< SRK -- I know Lexus is a good brand and their cars last a lot longer not to mention reliability and resale value because I used to sell Toyota myself and I know the product well. I hate to depart my ex-GS300 too but it's just has to be done. I would have to take my chances on this Evo. I did a lot of research myself before I made my final decision. The thing about this toy is that I have to have Premium gas and insurance is a bit higher comparing to the GS. The good side is the AWD which is great on the snow where I live. I know that it doesn't matter if a car is SUV, AWD, FWD or RWD, it all depends on the driver in the snow.
  6. I definitely get another one. I love driving my ex-GS300 out of town trips. I now owns an 05 Evo8 but still comes in the GS forum to check on the news. I wish I could kept the GS and just buy the Evo but budget is tight so I had to trade it in especially at a value I could not refuse. Many place would gave me $5K to $6K but the place I traded it for my Evo gave me $9.5K for it with a 137K miles and some body rust under due to aging. I took real good care for that baby when it was mine. I hope whoever bought it will do the same....
  7. What I did for my old GS300 is I purchase the dash kit, an Alpine amp to replace the stock amp because I don't want to go through the hassle of bypassing the stock amp or making it work on the after market receiver. I bought a JVC KD-G820 receiver of which I highly recommend that due to the fact that there are at least 5 preset EQ and you can set your own EQ too. You can find one on eBay for cheaper besides, they don't have it in the shelf at your local BestBuy or CircuitCity anymore. I tried looking for another one but couldn't find it and they say they won't be getting it anymore. I bought two of them just last week, one for my Evo and the other was by mistake but I put it in my wife's Corolla :D It took me a few hours to do it myself... except I have to take out the stock CD changer and in the same place, I make my own bracket for the Alpine amp to sit in. I can't tell you how I did it but it takes a few hours and trips to the local hardware store to get some screws, nuts and bolts. I use the hex bolt from Ace. I did purchase the wiring harness but it didn't came to me in time so I cut the wires and hard wire it myself. Only do it if you plan to keep your car or won't regret loosing the deck when it's time to let it go. You don't need to replace any speakers in the GS300 or 400 including sub unless you want your ear to blow. With the setup I have, it sounds real sweet. I just wish I took some pic of my work so I can show you guys but I traded that baby in for a Mitsubishi Evo. :chairshot: I'm sure there's some threads in here that will show you how to remove your OEM stereo.
  8. I know you guys probably don't care and some of you might hate me and want to kick me out of the Lexus Forum because I traded my precious GS300 for the Lancer Evo GSR. I really wanted to keep my GS300 as well but am tight in budget so I had to let it go. Planning to get another GS in the near future though. Looking into the GS430 this time. :whistles:
  9. Hey GooseSedan, How did you do it?! By the way, did you mean that the remote won't open the driver's door only or all doors? I have the same year GS300 too and my remote opens and locks all three doors except the driver's door. If your issue is similar to mine, please let me know how you did it. Thanks! Jimmy
  10. Its your door lock acutator. Its a common problem. The price ranges from $200-250. I found one on ebay new for 40 shipped but I got lucky. You have to take the door panel off. Dont forget theres a screw behind the door open lever. Disconnect electircs I think there were 2, one for the door light and one for the window/door lock. It takes about an 1hr. Tools? I think it was just falt n philps screw drivers and a socket wrench. You do have to by a new tool its a * almost like an allen but its a star. I picked it up at autozone for a couple of bucks( just get the full set cant remember the size, sorry) Good luck Thanks a bunch! I have the same problem with my 99 GS300 too! I will try to find a lock acutator and try that. Again, thanks for your help guys. Jimmy
  11. Well, the reason I think I should change the crankshaft pulley is for the look of the engine. I know it's a stupid idea but since I planned on changing the timing belt and accessory belt, might as well change all the pulleys if it's not too much expensive. Does anybody know how much they run? I'm looking at the Crankshaft Pulley, AC pulley, PowerSteering Pulley, and idle pulley.
  12. Did it and it sound a lot better with the Alpine amp. The amp is now located where the stock cd changer is and boy, it takes a long time to figure out how to make the bracket to for the amp to fit in but its all worth the time. Looks ok, but "professionaly" custom installed for $0 installation fee :whistles:
  13. I have a 99 GS300 with approximately 135K miles. There's a odd color on my serpentine belt. Before, there is a half orange "rust" look and I believe it would be the idle pulley. If I am changing the Serp belt, I'm thinking about changing the Timing Belt as well. Which means a new Crank Pulley, Serp Belt, idle pulley, Timing Belt idle pulley, Timing Belt and water pump. I like to get HKS Timing Belt and HKS adj cam gears. Any suggestions? Would the HKS Timing Belt be better or OEM Timing Belt?
  14. Nevermind, I finally found that the speaker wires are coming out of the amp. Got it hook up by cutting the harness because I plan to keep this baby for a long time and if I had to sell it, the system will go with it. I finally found out that the stock amp does not have RCA input so I have to get aftermarket amp to power the sub. Bought the Alpine 250 watts and planning on putting it where the CD changer located that way, I don't have to run the power and RCA wires to the back of the trunk.
  15. I would love to get a turbo kit for this but it'll be my daily driven vehicle so I don't think it will do good with gas putting a turbo on. I notice the spaces on the engine that could fit a nice turbo but that is too much for now :D I'm thinking about getting an MR2 Turbo as my weekend car as I use to have one but had to ditch it for a 4 door. :chairshot: Got pic of my x-MR2 at http://www.angelfire.com/extreme3/wmr2oc
  16. dcfish, it sound like you hit it right on target. it's a short intake with a cone on it. I suppose what I need next would be an exhaust system. I like a good look system with good sound but not loud. Any suggestion?
  17. I'm new at this too but I saw some direction from this one website and it says that all you have to do is pop out the cover of the sub and then remove the subwoofer. Here's the link http://www.carstereohelp.com/stereoremovalLexusSC400RSpk.htm Hope this helps ;)
  18. Sorry, no pic yet. Got it from eBay though. I'm sure if you go there, it'll still be in there. Bought it for $21.99 plus shipping :whistles: I guess an A/F guage would help me determine whether my mixture is lean or rich. If it triggers the CEL, can I removed the negative terminal of the battery to reset the CEL?
  19. Thanks for replying 1sikGS. Do you happen to remember the link the thread you got help? It would really help me because I tried to do some search but no luck that's why I decided to post a new thread.
  20. Hey all, I bought a aftermarket headunit because my oem has some display issues. I don't really want to buy any aftermarket amp but will if it will be much easier to go that route. According to the schematic diagram, the GS300 has two amps? One in the front and the other that powered the sub is in the trunk. Well, I removed the trunk carpet but don't see any amp back there. What I really hate to do is having to pull the rca wire and power wire all the way to the trunk for the amp Any help will be appreciated. Thanks a lot guys Jimmy
  21. Hey guys, I currently owned a 99 GS300. Just finished installing a intake kit bought from eBay on my GS. Took it for a spin and seems like it surely gets a lot more air into the system. Would that cause a problem in the A/F mixture? Any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks a bunch! Jimmy Yang
