  1. Any of you guys replaced your dump tubes. I'm not sure if this is the technical name for them or not. Just what I've seen them referred to as. If so, what brand (If any) and what kind of gains/behavior did you see out of replacing them? Oh, and what size are they? Thanks!
  2. I'd have to agree, or maybe a ground problem with the amps. Although, I would assume that would cause it to cut out completely, which would kill all your sound, but it definitely sounds like an amp issue.
  3. Mine does the same thing. I think it's normal. I think it goes by ambient temperature outside, and if you want cooler air coming in than what is outside, then it will recirculate and vice versa.
  4. I have an SC300, and I would recommend both actually. My girlfriend wants to buy an SC, and I told her to get the 400, just so I can have both! :D My SC300 doesn't have the stock 2J anymore, but it had a 190,000 miles on it before it spun a bearing. From what I know about the SC400 (1UZ-FE) is that they come stock with powder packed rods and pistons, which are EXTREMELY strong for the power it comes with. We have a 1UZ-FE that we want to TT and stuff into a Celica, or MKII Supra. The block design is incredible, but so is the 2J. Honestly, I think it's a toss up. What you should do is decide how much power you want. If you want 600 hp, go with the 300, if you want to stick around stock hp, I would go with a 400. Both have great exhaust notes, and I've been in a coule 400's that are pretty quick with minor bolt-ons. Once you decide what you want out of the car, just go out and look for both a 300 and 400. Then just buy the best deal you can find. That's probably the best way to go about it. Either way, you're going to have an incredible car that is well worth the money.
  5. I completely agree. Just save up, unless you don't want the adjustability. Then I would get the Basics for the Supra. Coilover Sleeves aren't the way to go if you ask me. I'd rather have a matched set of springs/shocks that are completely adjustable, rather than something that is pieced together just to save a few bucks. With you being a Drifter, I would assume you'd want the adjustability.
  6. Just a quick comment. We had a Blazer in here throwing an EGR Code with hard starting and a rough idle when cold. Replaced the EGR, rough idle went away, but it still starts hard.
  7. I honestly can't believe all the problems you've had with your car. From the sounds of it, you just need a camber kit. There is one thing that I read that COULD be possible. That your front end is lower than the rear. Most lowering kits are made to "level" the car, but there are some out there that have different lowering levels for front and rear. If your car has a factory "rake" to it, and you put springs on it that lower 1" (for example) then your front end would still sit lower than the front. With that being said, I honestly just think that your mechanics, or whoever you took the car to are idiots. And don't despair about being a chick and into cars. My sister had to fight for respect in the auto world around here. She's starting to get it, it just takes one time to prove them wrong and you're fine. Hope you get the problem resolved! :)
  8. Same here, I think I'm just going to turbo my GE. I let this Supra go that I wanted, which I shouldn't have, and I can't find another one. I'm not going to fork over the cash that people want just for the motor and tranny, when I can strip down an entire car for cheaper, BUT all the Turbo cars are starting to come around the shop now from Winter, and I'm getting anxious. Manifold looks gorgeous AJ. I need to rebuild my bottom end before I turbocharge, so I'm just going to jet/hot coat everything before it gets put back together. I don't need aftermarket forged. I can basically get the same amount of power out of the engine without them, (with the semi-stock fuel system) just takes smart building. So saving money on both ends.
  9. If you only want that much power, you should be about right on with a big downpipe, cat back, test pipe, intake, boost controller, and a FMIC. That should put you at exactly what you want to hit. You won't even have to touch the turbo, compression, anything. That's basically BPU+ numbers
  10. 350 is extremely high for doing the plugs. Book time on the entire job is only 2.0 hours. Follow what SCdriver said, but after you run that stuff through your car, you will ABSOLUTELY need to change your plugs. All of the carbon and crap that it cleans out is going to burn on your plugs, which if they are bad will degrade them even further.
  11. Well, as of now, I could only afford a Geo Metro, but it would be a really sweet Metro! If money wasn't an object, I would definitely get an 06 GS 300 AWD. That's a dream come true if you ask me. That car would be turbocharged 5 hours after it left the lot.
  12. SEMA covers practically everything that doesn't come from the factory. Even some things that do, but being reproduced. As SK said, they aren't just about HP, hell they aren't even only cars. There's multiple divisions of SEMA that cover all vehicles. Hot Rods, Muscle, Imports/Sport Compacts, Trucks. Everything. Joining SEMA was the best thing that I could've done. That article actually angers me a bit. IMO they blur the line between someone that doesn't know a damn thing about aftermarket modifications, and someone that wants to make something out of their car... Atleast they acknowledge the difference. I think adding aftermarket parts to your vehicle is half of what being a car guy is all about. I suppose it's just an article, and there's nothing to really be upset about. I'm just too defensive!! :cries: ;)
  13. Well, here's what wiring diagrams I have. They might be of some help.
  14. I really like the kit, it's subtle yet agressive in it's own way. That's something I have been looking for, but with how slow my progress on my car has been so far (absolutely zero) I don't think I'm going to get anything. Work is just too time consuming, I can't get anything done to my car. I figured Winter would be a slow down time, well that was wrong. We're getting busier, which completely ruins my plans for my car.
  15. I've seen something like this, I really dont' think it's like the Tornado thing. I think this is one of those Electric 1psi motor things. I watched one blow up a garbage bag once, that was about all it could do, since it didn't do a damn thing to a car.
  16. I don't remember exactly what it was, but I think it was I-94 between Chicago and Detroit. There's a nice stretch that is brand new, really wide, flat and the Speed Limit jumps up from 65 to 75 mph. I was pretty impressed with that. Scenery was your usual Mid Western forest, but the road was VERY nice.
  17. Plus I'm sure after they come out, they'll be known to the state of California to cause Cancer, like the rest of an Automobile. ;)
  18. Leave it to Michelin to invent a cybernetic uber alien tire. That actually sounds like it might be a cool thing, but I doubt we'll see anything close to that for years. Wheel Manufacturers would have to merge with tire companies (the ones that haven't already) just to get wheel designs on 'Tweels.' I'd like to see the cops try and stop stick you with those ;)
  19. Sounds like it should be a fun little project. Trying to get away with as much power, without upgrading the turbo? Going to upgrade the wheel and port the housing? Or just go with bigger bolt-ons and more boost?
  20. I don't see how the cops could give you a ticket for the K40 if it's a factory option. Even if it is illegal in that state. It's like Window Tint. It's an equipment violation, if it's installed in the vehicle. Some vehicles come with tint that would be considered illegal in many states, yet they can't do anything because it's factory. I've seen this many many times here in Wi.
