  1. either here on in clublexus someone has posted detailed instructions and pics about removing and thoroughly cleaning the mirror switch contacts. i haven't done it yet but others in the thread raved about how well it worked. there's a link to it in my thread about repairing the coin box/tray. gkkes, cleaning the contacts may help.
  2. i didn't see a post like this when i searched; pardon if redundant. just recently got my '04 ls430 back from the collision center... before i fixed it, my coin tray wouldn't open freely or smoothly. it was broken during the repair of the car after an accident (can't prove but it worked fine before the accident and repair work). insurance nor shop would cover replacement, shop said replacement part would be about $125-$150. the tray container itself is four pieces hooked together (two plastic sides, plastic top, and a metal bottom with bolts sticking out of the underside) with tabs that the tray slides into. somehow one of the sides had dislodged and was restricting the trays movement in and out. i never took the container completely apart, just adjusted the little tabs on the sides and top until they were all back in place. initially to figure out what the problem was, i had to take the whole part out. to get the tray out of the container and remove the mirror switch i used the following from clublexus (http://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls43...control+switch) and another link in that thread which shows pictures. it's easier to get the tray out of the container before you remove the whole assembly but you can remove the assembly without taking the tray out. following steps are for doing the way i recommend. attached pics may help with the steps. 1. you have to push down on the two stopping tabs at the back of the tray (you can't see them until you remove it) while pulling the tray out; it was difficult for me using a small jewelers screwdriver but eventually it happened. 2. after the tray is out you pull on the bottom lip of the trim holding the mirror switch section until it pops out (the usual squeeze-type brackets hold it on the sides). disconnect the connections at the back. 3. pull and hold out the parking brake handle and you'll see two bolts and 10mm nuts at the bottom of the coin tray part. remove the nuts and the tray part will slide out, disconnect the light cable at the back. hopefully this helps someone.
  3. GHETTO, but it works ... and nobody can see it.
  4. first off, the title is misleading. it should say how to access the subwoofer from the trunk. i did remove the subwoofer but you have to take it out from inside the car; yes remove the backseat and panel to get to it. other posts describe how to do that in detail so i won't recreate the wheel here. sorry if i've wasted your time. i did this post because my subwoofer sounded blown but i couldn't see any damage from inside the car so i decided to take a look from underneath, by way of the trunk, before deciding if i needed to take it out. from underneath i discovered the cone was separating from the basket (common problem with paper speakers over time). see boblexus430 post on glue gun repair if you decide to go that route, it worked for me. anyway, i hope the pics make it a little clearer to understand how to get to the sub from inside the trunk if you ever need to. - the grill cover for the sub is held on by 4 x snaps (pic 1). you can stick your fingers underneath and pull up and it should pop (i did one side at a time). pulling straight up is probably best because the snaps slide into the grill cover ... one of mine slide out of the cover as i removed it and i had to work it back into the cover to get it out without potentially damaging it. when you put it back on, note it only goes on one way. underneath the grill you'll see F and R with an arrow, which means Front - Right this way. INSIDE THE TRUNK - most of the trunk liner, minus the sides and a portion of the bottom, is one big puzzle piece of sections (pic 4)riveted together (sort of). i'm not sure if it's possible but don't recommend unriveting it unless you have a way to reattach. there are a total of 12 clips/snaps and two sections of velcro that hold the linear in place in addition to the trunk access door above the rear armrest. - (pic 2) remove 2 x black slider clips and 2 x black grocery hook pop out snaps (i think that's what they're for) in the top part of the liner. on a portion that connects to the passenger side wall is a pop out clip (i think, mine was missing but i can tell some type of clip is supposed to be there). also in the top are 4 x flip out clips (pic 3) that hold the liner from the inside right under the rear interior brake light (2 black and 2 white), flip them out as you work your way across the liner edge. you might have to remove the trunk light also, the clip on mine is partially broken so it isn't seated fully in the slot. - the liner bottom edge is held in by 3 x pop out snaps (you can see them in pic 4 and where they came from in pic 5). - now work the liner out from around the black lid for the trunk access that's above the armrest. the trunk should now look like this (pic 6). be cool,
  5. haven't had to change mine yet (thankfully). back in oct 07 a guy said he bought one from sewell lexus for $75 plus shipping. he didn't give the part number but if you search for "seat filter" you might find that post. another choice might be ebay; i've had success finding parts from the ebay stores section with the "buy now" option (i.e., no bidding). possible search string would be 'lexus ls430 seat filter' be cool,
  6. i have an '04 but it should be about the same. u have to unscrew/pop-out the black plastic screws that hold the cover down in a few locations. should be about 3 to 5 (most of mine are gone after years of various service providers taking 'em out and not putting 'em back or losing them. be cool,
  7. Dr J, i have an 04 ls430 and it would be very unusual for my lex from the same model year to have a reset and yours not have one. the only thing that might account for such a difference, if that's the case, would be if you have the ultra model or something like that. but like you said, it isn't in plain sight. if you still haven't found it after a trip to the dealer, try this: to the right of the gas pedal is a ribbed section of plastic or vinyl or something in the carpet upholstry running along the tranny shaft. put you hand, palm up, midway along that section and lift your hand directly up until you hit the underside of the bottom instrument panel cover. your hand should feel the knob that adjusts the volume of the car beeps. the reset switch is one of the two push buttons to the side of the knob. all that stuff is in a flat area that doesn't follow the curvature of the bottom instrument panel. if you went too far forward with your hand you'll the wiring harnesses, etc from underneath the instrument cluster. if your hand didn't go far enough you should feel a grill or slits in the paneling. hope this helps, be cool
  8. first question, did he try replacing the battery in the key fob? about a month ago my ls430 error message display warned me that my battery in the smart key fob was getting low. there also is a smart key push button cancel switch partially hidden from view at the bottom of the instrument panel by the gas pedal. hope that helps
  9. good luck to anybody on finding a 2006 lex in a salvage yard. might be different in other places, but here in central florida (home of the chop shop) i couldn't find a local junk yard that had a 2004 lex for me to scavenge through for cheap parts. i suspect finding a 2006 would be even harder. seems like the auto auctions are getting all the good, high-end vehicles instead of the junk yards. thought i would catch a deal on getting a replacement window switch, but in the end had to go to ebay. the dealers were asking over $300! as always, be cool
  10. not to make your choice any harder, but USASPEC also has lex/toyota ipod intergration units. i decided not to take the intergration plunge (mostly due to cost) but my top two contenders were VAIS and USASPEC. it's been a while since i've looked at prices and features. i do know that USASPECs latest unit specifically for lex just hit the streets a few months ago and don't know of anyone who's purchased and installed it yet. as with most other similar units, it's probably a reverse engineered VAIS. anyway, just wanted to put another option out there. be cool,
  11. you're more than welcome. just trying to be as helpful as others have been to me. regarding the timing belt, i'm not sure. we have roughly the same mileage and i'm pondering when to get the service done too. i was lucky enough to get a pretty thorough service history for my lex and have found some background info on the previous owner (misc personal info found under the seats, etc) and feel confident she took good care of the car (minus the fender bender that didn't show up on carfax). you can read around, there is plenty of advice from more experienced lex owners and various types of industry insiders. try the search feature if you haven't already. i think i might just play it safe and follow the service manuals recommendation. i do know that most recommend replacing the fuel pump at the same time as the timing belt since they're close in proximity. be cool,
  12. welcome to the experience, start in your manual on page 360 to understand the tire pressure warning system. reset instructions are a few pages away. the reset button is underneath the driver's console area in front of the gas pedal. instructions are pretty much straight forward. be cool,
  13. i always wanted to see the speaker quality in my lex but it took a while find enough info and build up the nerve to do it. as suspected, even though it's a ML system, the speaker is still paper and will likely deteriorate in a few more years. here are some pics to go with the description above to get the panel off and also some of the speaker connections. sorry, labeling the pics was just a bit too much today. anyway, hope someone finds this useful. my ls430 is a 2004 but the process is the same. -there are 4 x 10mm hex screws, 3 at the bottom hidden under the weather stripping and 1 in the air duct hole by the side mirror. -there are 3 x bolts, 2 in the arm rest area (1 under the bottom and 1 inside the window switch cavity) and 1 hidden by the cover of the door handle cover plate (use a flathead screwdriver to carefully pop the plate out). the window switch can be removed using a flathead srewdriver to pry it up, there's a snap that holds it in place at the part closest to opening where you put you hand to close the door. once you remove all of the screws, the panel is held in place by 4 green snap fasteners, 2 on the left side, 2 on the right side. once you pull those out and lift up, you've have the 98% solution to getting the panel off. connections for the door lights, the window switch / door lock, and memory seats are easy enough to get off. the door handle assembly is tougher and without any additional tips or prior experience i didn't risk taking it off. -there are 3 x 10mm hex screws for the speaker housing. there is foam around the speaker perimeter that hides the screws that hold the speaker in the housing. not sure if replacement speakers from places like crutchfield come with the housing or not. if they don't, then you'll have to do some soldering when you replace the speaker. be cool,
  14. sorry for being so late with this; guess i need to turn email notification on. see my original post at http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...c=10680&hl=
