  1. I have an older model GS300 ('93). When it was about 5 years old, both front doors' exterior window frames began warping out of shape -- causing a bad seal and wind noise similar to what you describe. I took the car to my Lexus dealer, who stated that the problem was not covered by the warranty. Lo, and behold, I soon spotted another GS300 with the same problem, and wrote down it's license plate number. I went back to the dealer with this "evidence" of defective manufacturing, and was able to get both window frames replaced at a $200 set labor charge (saving about $500 in parts). You may have the same problem -- check to see if the window frame is beginning to show signs of a bad fit to the body. If so, you may have the same problem. Good luck.
  2. Just got back from Lexus Dealership Parts Department. Unfortunately, the 1993 GS's were not manufactured with cabin filters -- at least replaceable ones. 1994 was the first year the filter system was introduced.
  3. I just found out about the existence of this filter, and would like to change it. Does anyone know how to do this, or where instructons can be found. Thge owner's manual doen't even mention it. Thanks.
  4. I never knew there was a cabin filter -- nothing in the owners manual, never mentioned by the Lexus service department. I just called the parts department and - lo and behold! - a new cabin filter can be ordered for $58. Now I just have to do a little exploration about how to get to it (yes, behind the glove compartment). Thanks for the help -- and I agree that Fabreeze is a great product. I never thought of usinig it in a car.
  5. The brakes on my '93 GS 300 have always squealed after initial break-in period. Lexus even replaced them for free once. I've also had them replaced by independent shops with the same results. The back ones seem to be the main culprit, and squealing starts when break pedal is depressed about 20-25% of the way. The squealing stops once the brakes are fully engaged. The service people tell me it's because asbestos is no longer used, but if that were the case, all cars' brakes would squeal. Any suggestions for a solution? Thank's
  6. My 1993 Lex GS300 has 85K and runs beautifully - a great car. Two irritants -- the A/C output tens to smell a bit unpleasant, but when the A/C's off, I get warm humid air circulating, which smells worse (a bit mildewy). Any fixes available? Also, just had my 4th power window regulator go bad -- they've all worn out in the past 18 months. I look for used parts whenever possible @car-part.com, and have found Greenleaf Auto Parts in particular to be reliable. Some salvage yards will deliver to your mechanic directly for free. Finally, my drivers seat leather is cracking badly. Anyone have suggestions on recovering leather seats (I live in L.A.) Thanks, and I look forward to participating in the forum.!
