  1. Large Electrolytic Caps won’t work because they will discharge through the same path the battery discharges. If you want to try one go to any electronic supply house and get one that will work over the temperature range and is rated for at least 35 volts. Caps are normally used for power supply regulation and high frequency filtering. Check your charge rate with an ammeter and your changing voltage with a voltmeter. If the charging circuit is good then disconnect the battery and using wiring diagrams try taking resistance readings. It could lead you to the culprit.
  2. A bad crank position sensor on my 92 sc400 allowed the car to start and if you kept your foot on the accelerator and applied gas it would run. The car wouldn’t idle without stalling. A mechanic found it via a code but I don’t know what that code was. BTW the computer on my 87 Vette died but the car still ran in a “limp” mode. I don’t know if the Lexus has a similar type of design.
  3. Actually lexus082 solved the problem for me. My gf is the primary driver of the car and she took out the cigarette lighter since she didn’t want anybody smoking in the car and she never covered it. There was a penny in the lighter that blew the fuse. We didn’t know about it because we didn’t use the cigarette lighter and I was unaware until lexus082 told me that the fuse also was for the environmental control unit. Removing the penny and changing the fuse solved the problem. Once again thank you for your help and hopefully some day I will be able to help someone else the way you have helped me.
  4. The Heater/AC Control Unit on my 1992 SC400 went dead. It is totally inoperative and none of the indicator lights illuminate. I would like to check the fuse for this unit but I don’t have a manual and I don’t know where the passenger compartment fuse box is located. I would appreciate any help you can give me.
  5. Hi. I live in Suffolk County on Long Island and I have a 1992 SC400 that has no power. The local (independent) repair shop can’t find the problem and says the codes from his diagnostic equipment tells him nothing. They initially diagnosed a bad MAF which I replaced but the car still has no power. Does anybody know of a competent Lexus mechanics in Suffolk County, Long Island near Ronkonkoma?
  6. Eat meat well done and you could get cancer. Eat it rare and risk having a parasite as your constant companion.
  7. I used a number of different ones over the years and have found: “92 SC400 - OEM seems best “87 Vette - They're all terrible. 2004 Maxima SE – They’re all okay. Not much difference.
  8. I have a similar problem and the mechanic found the maf to be the problem. A larger problem is finding one that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. DirectAuto.com sells rebuilt ones but everyone they send me is dead. They have been having problems with them so I’m still searching.
  9. Mktbully I need a MAF for a 1992 SC400. I’m having a lot of trouble finding one on Long Island. Where did you get yours? I'm also going to check the coil on my car. Thank you for the post.
  10. Hello everybody. I just purchased a 1992, SANDSTONE BEIGE, SC400. The owner ripped me off and it turns out he is in trouble with the law (but that’s another story). I purchased the car for $4200 and did a CARFAX which was good. The car has a lot of miles on it (220,000) but the engine and tranny are rebuilt and are in good condition. Everything works on the car and the interior and exterior are in great shape. I’ve had the following problems which the seller repaired: 1. Leaking radiator (was replaced) 2. Bad Water pump (both water pump and timing belt were replaced). I now have a problem that is driving me crazy. The Mass Airflow Sensor died and the car is running very lean. I found one at a junk yard but it did not work and them I purchased one from directautoparts.com and that one is also dead. Does anybody know where I can get a Mass Airflow Sensor for the car without going to the dealer who wants over $1000 for the part? I live on Long Island (Ronkonkoma, New York).
