  1. What is the easiest way to access the cigarette lighter wire??
  2. Just added an amp to the existing sound system to power a new sub. (2002 SC430) Having problems getting the amp to shut off when car is turned off. Anyone know where is a good spot to tie in the remote turn on wire for the new amplifier? I've tried all of the fuses under the hood. They turn the amp on, but do not turn the amp off when the car is shut off and key is removed.
  3. Don't let Lexus screw you. There is no "secret ohm" kit. All the speakers in the car are 8 ohms, except for the sub, which is 16 ohm. I just recently replaced all the speakers in my 2002 sc430, and the sound sounds 100% better than their "premium, Mark Levinson" system. I kept the factory head unit, as well as the factory ML amp to run the door speakers and rear speakers. Added an Alpine amp to power my new sub. You can find way better 8 ohm speakers than what is being used in the car. I did very little modifications to make the new speakers fit. In fact, the only modification I did, was changed the door woofers (which are 6 x 9) to 6.5" pioneer woofers. I had to use a little MDF to make the speakers fit. Was very simple. I changed out the rear speakers, and they fit fine. Changed out the sub, and it fit fine...(although, I wish I could have gone with a bigger sub. Only an 8" sub would replace the old one).
  4. Thanx a bunch!! That should be a HUGE help! lazyjones, Here is a link of a step by step process of speaker removal of a SC430. Post #2 show the speaker specs., looks like you will be able to use aftermarket speakers. http://clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=288367
  5. Has anyone replaced the speakers in a 2002 sc430? Can you use aftermarket speakers, or is the system a 'proprietoriship system'. I've heard various comments about this issue. Some say it is like the Bose system; meaning it might be a .25 - 1 ohm load, in which case you would have to use Mark Levinson speakers. Others have said they are 4 ohm speakers, which would be easily replaceable. Also, does anyone know the exact size of the speakers? I've talked to several high end stereo installation companies, and they almost all say the same thing. 'We have never worked on that car before.' One company told me they had to replace the entire system in the car, as they weren't able to just upgrade the speakers.
  6. The secret 'debug' menu allows you to use all of the features of the nav. system while the car is in motion. Meaning, you can enter addresses and destinations and display ALL of the POI's while you are actually driving. Every feature of the nav. system that you can use while the car is stopped, now becomes available while the car is in motion. The debug diag menu also has 6 or 7 other features that I have no idea what they do, and frankly am scared to try them. Some of them include, "Dump", "Position", "Version", "Fill". Don't know what any of these do. If anyone knows what they do, let me know! The only feature I ever use is, "Override Drive". I actually have version 4.1, not 3.1. Is the debug menu on version 6.1???
  7. Hoping someone here can help out with this one. Have a 2002 SC430. Want to upgrade to the newest nav. disc. I currently have version 3.1 and want to get 6.1. Has anyone tried to make a copy with a DVD backup program and use the backup disc? I'm a bit worried to try this. If I make a copy, and upgrade my nav. system with the copy, and it doesn't work, will it mess up my OS, so my original copy won't work? Then, I wouldn't be able to go back to my older version either. Also, does the newest version (I'm assuming it's 6.1) have the 'secret' debug menu? I love being able to override my current navigation system so I can use all the features when the car is in motion.
